Switching Network Having Separate Elements To Handle Circuit Switched Traffic And Packet Switched Traffic Patents (Class 370/354)
  • Patent number: 8804694
Abstract: In one example, handling a call at a first client device in a packet network is described. The first client device obtains device capabilities of a second client device in response to the call. The device capabilities are processed to determine whether the second client device is capable of graphical display or graphical interaction. If so, the first client device follows a multimodal call flow. Otherwise, the first client device follows a voice-only call flow.

  • Patent number: 8804705
Abstract: A system and method for IP telephony are disclosed, including an IP telephone (IPT) and a Service Gateway (SG). The SG receives an identifier, e.g., a vendor class identifier, included in a DHCP discover message from the IP telephone and determines the identifier's validity. If so, the SG issues a DHCP offer comprising DHCP lease information to the IP telephone, including a range of port numbers assigned to the IP telephone based on the identifier, where the range of port numbers comprises ports which are not reserved for use by other IP protocols. The DHCP lease information includes information indicating operational software for the IP telephone which the IP telephone executes to enable IP communications. The SG mediates IP communications between the IP telephone and an IP device, where the IP telephone uses at least a subset of the range of port numbers to send or receive IP communications.

Abstract: Methods and systems for providing reduced bandwidth acquisition latency may comprise communicating a reservation request for bandwidth allocation for devices operating under a wired network protocol, where the reservation request may be sent by wired network devices via a wireless network protocol over a wireless network. Bandwidth may be allocated in the wired network for the requesting devices by a network controller. Data may be communicated with the requesting devices via the wired network. The wired network communication protocol may comprise a multimedia over cable alliance (MoCA) standard. The wireless protocol may comprise an IEEE 802.11x standard, a Bluetooth standard, and/or any non-public network protocol. The communication of the reservation request via the wireless protocol may decrease a latency of the wired network. Abstract: In one embodiment, a network device attaches a header including an identifier for an original call to an outgoing refer message and may also modify a table entry for a consultative call to include the identifier. The network device then monitors incoming invite messages for a header containing the identifier and observes that an incoming invite message containing the header correlates to the original call. Abstract: Network packets may be transmitted from packet sources to packet destinations through a network of switches. The switches may have corresponding flow tables that control how the packets are forwarded through the switches. A controller server may generate network switch forwarding paths for the network packets by modifying the flow tables with entries based on attributes of the network packets and network topology information. The controller server may forward selected packets directly to packet destinations instead of generating the network switch forwarding paths. Abstract: In a virtual network apparatus, even when a fault occurs on a private line connecting plural physical network apparatuses to communicate a control signal, the redundancy is maintained, and the lower forwarding capability is prevented. In this network system, a control signal for virtualization to be transmitted and received between plural physical network apparatuses is relayed via a unit spanning LA connecting each physical network apparatus and an adjacent network apparatus in the adjacent network apparatus. Thereby, even when a fault occurs in the private line, it is possible to continue to communicate the control signal between the physical network apparatuses and continuously operate the virtual network apparatus.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for integrating a Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) client in a wireless PC card are disclosed. A soft mobile phone client is combined with a cellular PC card to create a single physical device that is capable of providing VoIP services to a computer user through the cellular capabilities of the device itself, or alternatively, through any other Internet connectivity available to the computer. When a user inserts the VoIP client/Cellular PC Card into a computer, a graphical user interface (GUI) within the connection manager software is launched allowing the user to communicate VoIP function commands to the VoIP client. A check for Internet connectivity may be performed, at which time the Radio portion of the enhanced PC card may be put into an idle state if connectivity is detected, or may alternatively establish Internet connectivity through the cellular portion of the enhanced PC card.

Abstract: A system and method for monitoring call quality for calling centers using packet based call technology. A distributed system manages packet flow between a caller and a call center agent and storage servers. The distributed system is used to monitor, record and analyze real time communications between the caller and the agent and to identify whether certain predetermined parameters are occurring in any particular call. In the event that such a predetermined parameter does exist, a message can be sent to a supervisory station or dialog guidance messages may be sent to the agent.

  • Patent number: 8661146
Abstract: In a system and method for establishing communications in a communications network, a network service provider can assign IP addresses to mobile devices dynamically to conserve IP address resources. A network service provider can also implement network address translation to further conserve IP address resources and to provide improved security. If a requestor seeks to obtain an IP address of a mobile device and the address is a local address, the system determines if the mobile device has a network address translation (NAT) binding that associates the IP address of the mobile device with a public IP address. If the mobile device does not have a NAT binding, the system creates a NAT binding that associates the IP address of the mobile device with a public IP address.

Abstract: A report message may be transmitted with collaborated information related to the occurrence of an emergency event. A plurality of devices, such as mobile communications devices, that are out of range of a communications network can communicate via direct communication, such as device-to-device communication, to corroborate characteristics that are indicative of an occurrence of an emergency event. Information related to the occurrence may be collaborated amongst the plurality of devices. A transmitting device, which may be one of the plurality of devices that corroborates characteristics or collaborates information, may generate and transmit the report message comprising the collaborated information. A receiving device may provide the message over a communications network, or the report message may continue to be handed off between devices capable of direct communication, the message eventually reaching a device that is within range of the communications network.

Abstract: Techniques are provided to prevent switches in a data center fabric path environment with fabric path extension devices from media access control (MAC) address flooding and MAC address table overflow. In such an environment, endpoints associated with virtual port channels are connected to multiple switches which normally would perform MAC address flooding across all switch forwarding engines. The switches in the fabric path exchange MAC synchronization messages based on source/destination specific connectivity such that MAC broadcast messages that advertise source/destination MAC addresses for endpoints do not have to be repeatedly sent and their corresponding MAC lookup tables do not have to be updated or include unnecessary MAC table entries.

Abstract: A temporary ENUM architecture assigns a temporary ENUM at call time. For an originated communication requiring routing to a party which needs a particular callback format not supported, the TempENUM provides consistency with the specific format required by the receiving party. The TempENUM is assigned for the duration of the call or communication, or for a given amount of time thereafter. The TempENUM service gateway includes a TempENUM database, a module that assigns a suitable TempENUM at the time of call routing, and a module that handles a lookup in the TempENUM database, and maps the assigned TempENUM to a calling party identifier (CgPID). The TempENUM database stores a TempENUM from a coordinator system and relates the actual calling party identifier (CgPID) for use in callback attempts. Either during the initial call or communication, or shortly thereafter, the receiving party uses the TempENUM number to return communication the initial caller.
