Abstract: A wide area network using the internet as a backbone utilizing specially selected ISX/ISP providers whose routers route packets of said wide area network along private tunnels through the internet comprised of high bandwidth, low hop-count data paths. Firewalls are provided at each end of each private tunnel which recognize IP packets addressed to devices at the other end of the tunnel and encapsulate these packets in other IP packets which have a header which includes as the destination address, the IP address of the untrusted side of the firewall at the other end of the tunnel. The payload sections of these packets are the original IP packets and are encrypted and decrypted at both ends of the private tunnel using the same encryption algorithm using the same key or keys.

  • Patent number: 8964757
Abstract: Combining parallel Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) connections and pipelining overcomes an impact of increasing Round Trip Time (RTT) by varying in real time the number of parallel connections and pipelined requests such that the number of outstanding requests is minimal and the link remains fully utilized. Optimal construction and scheduling of requests and connections in an HTTP stack improves page load time and also provides for greater responsiveness to changes in object priorities. Multi-homing and mobility at the application layer for HTTP are addressed. Multi-homing provides for simultaneous use of multiple interfaces, for example WWAN and WLAN interfaces which improves download time, especially in the case that the available bandwidth the interfaces is of the same order of magnitude. Mobility provides for switching connections as the device moves. In combination they provide for smoother mobility. Mobility can be provided this way without server or network support.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for requesting and allocating bandwidth in a broadband wireless communication system. The method and apparatus includes a combination of techniques that allow a plurality of CPEs to communicate their bandwidth request messages to respective base stations. One technique includes a “polling” method whereby a base station polls CPEs individually or in groups and allocates bandwidth specifically for the purpose of allowing the CPEs to respond with bandwidth requests. The polling of the CPEs by the base station may be in response to a CPE setting a “poll-me bit” or, alternatively, it may be periodic. Another technique comprises “piggybacking” bandwidth requests on bandwidth already allocated to a CPE. Currently active CPEs request bandwidth using unused portions of uplink bandwidth that is already allocated to the CPE. The CPE is responsible for distributing the allocated uplink bandwidth in a manner that accommodates the services provided by the CPE.

For implementing energy control, an energy control attribute is assigned to the quality of service class. On the basis of the energy control attribute, a data throughput for forwarding the data traffic is limited to a maximum limit. This may be accomplished by using a throughput limiter (150, 250) in one or more nodes (100, 110, 120, 200) participating in the transport of the data traffic.

Abstract: A network system includes a server which accommodates a plurality of tenants, at least one network appliance which has a resource shared by the plurality of tenants, a plurality of switches arranged between the at least one network appliance and a network; and a controller which controls the switches. Each switch has a flow table indicating an association of an input source with a transfer destination of packets for each flow, and transfers packets received from the input source to the transfer destination by referring to the flow table. The controller includes an assignment control block which dynamically assigns each of a plurality of tenants to any of the at least one network appliance; a route design block which designs a flow route for each of the tenants; and a switch setting block which sets the flow table for each of switches along the designed route.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for allocating resources (such as communications bandwidth) using a network access device. In one embodiment, the network includes a wireless network (e.g., WiFi), and the access device includes a wireless router or gateway in communication with a plurality of wireless users. The device includes an administrator function which allows the network administrator to implement one or more resource allocation policies or rules. Using this approach, resources such as bandwidth can be allocated based on any number of different parameters or use classifications, including for example: (i) public versus private use; (ii) security level; (iii) user range from the access device; (iv) type of PHY or air interface; (v) type of channel coding; (vi) air interface mode or application (e.g., data versus voice). In one variant, the allocation policies are manually controlled by the administrator. In another variant, substantially automatic resource allocation is performed by the administrator program.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer readable media for DPI-enabled traffic shaping for xDSL networks are disclosed. According to one method, a DPI node analyzes signaling for an xDSL network access node or a broadband network gateway to determine nodal or link capacities available to nodes upstream from the network access node or the broadband network gateway for delivering downstream traffic to the network access device. The DPI node uses the determined capacities to shape downstream traffic delivered to the network access device.

Abstract: Systems and methodologies are described that facilitate multiple-phase selective connection establishment in wireless communications networks. Radio resource control (RRC) layer communications can be instantiated between a mobile device and base station. Additional information can be required by a downstream network component regarding the mobile device. Accordingly, the RRC resources can be utilized to transmit the additional information from the mobile device to the network component to facilitate the multiple-phase establishment. This can be accomplished using non-access stratum (NAS) messages. Further, the information can relate to authorization, security re-configuration, context re-synchronization, an identity of the mobile device, and the like.

The method includes: storing received packets in a same stream sequentially; receiving a Get_packet command sent by each core; selecting, according to a preset scheduling rule, packets for being processed by each core among the stored packets; receiving a tag switching command sent by each core, where the tag switching command indicates that the core has finished a current processing stage; and performing tag switching for the packets in First In First Out (FIFO) order, and allocating the packets to a subsequent core according to the Get_packet command sent by the subsequent core after completion of the tag switching, so that the packet processing continues until all processing stages are finished. A data processing system and relevant devices are provided. With the present invention, the processing efficiency of cores may be improved.

  • Patent number: 8848535
Abstract: Systems and methods are described for using opportunistically delayed delivery of content to address sub-optimal bandwidth resource usage in network infrastructures that allow subscribers to share forward link resources. According to some embodiments, content is identified as delayable and assigned to a delaycast queue and/or service flow. For example, a server system of a satellite communications system identifies content that can be delayed to exploit future excess link capacity through multicasting and to exploit subscriber-side storage resources. Some implementations attempt to exploit any excess link resources at any time, while others exploit unused bandwidth only during certain times or when a certain threshold of resources is available. Various embodiments also provide content scoring and/or other prioritization techniques for optimizing exploitation of the delaycast queue.
