  • Patent number: 8509080
Abstract: In a packet communication system with large bandwidth delay product (BDP) and employing Transmission Control Protocol (TCP), the reported advertised window size as advertised by a receiver is employed only as an indication of window size and not as a throughput limit so that more data is sent than the amount specified by the advertised window size. Since the receiver can process all incoming TCP packets, the receiving buffer is consistently near empty. Since the TCP's advertised window size is not accepted as the absolute amount of buffer space available at the receiver, the sender is not constrained by the absolute value of the receiver's advertised window size and instead can transmit more data than the absolute value of the advertised window, enabling the system to increase the actual window size without modifying the link ends. This improved large-BDP-capable protocol is denoted TCP-SC.

Abstract: A method is disclosed that provides a way to manage the registrations of telecommunications endpoints, and to prioritize those registered endpoints, or “contacts,” that belong to a user, without some of the disadvantages in the prior art. The technique of the illustrative embodiment, which is referred to as “contact priority reordering,” prioritizes the contacts that are associated with a Session Initiation Protocol (SIP) public address of a user, without having to modify any endpoints. Moreover, the technique is interoperable with any SIP endpoint. The technique can be regarded as a reordering process because it overrides any endpoint ordering that occurs at a registrar server as a consequence of the registrations and re-registrations of the individual endpoints. Advantageously, the technique prioritizes the contacts that are associated with a particular public address without requiring that any changes be made to the registrar server—or to any other SIP servers.

  • Patent number: 8396056
Abstract: The present invention describes how a trusted network routing authority, such as a VoIP inter-exchange carrier or clearinghouse can provide routing and secure access control across multiple network domains with a single routing and admission request. This technology can improve network efficiency and quality of service when an Internet Protocol (IP) communication transaction, such as a Voice over IP (VoIP), must be routed across multiple devices or administrative domains. This technology defines the technique of performing multiple route look-ups at the source of the call path to determine all possible routes across intermediate domains to the final destination. The VoIP inter-exchange carrier or clearinghouse then provides routing and access permission tokens for the entire call path to the call source.

  • Patent number: 8385300
Abstract: A method is provided in one example implementation and the method includes identifying through a home bearer manager that an Internet Protocol (IP) address has been previously sent to an access terminal, the IP address being issued by a visited bearer manager as a result of the access terminal requesting registration in a visited network. The method further includes communicating the IP address to the access terminal in response to the access terminal registering in a home network. The registrations in the home and the visited network allow a plurality of packets to be communicated to the access terminal via the IP address. In more specific embodiments, the IP address serves as a care of address (CoA) address and a home IP address concurrently. The IP address can be exchanged via a mobile IP (MIP) exchange. The home and visited bearer managers are independent or interdependent.

  • Patent number: 8379650
Abstract: A method and a device for providing services for a user are provided. The method includes receiving, by an interrogating call session control function (I-CSCF), a failure response returned by a first serving call session control function (S-CSCF) after the I-CSCF selects the first S-CSCF for the user according to a capability set of an S-CSCF returned by a home subscriber server (HSS) and forwards a service request to the first S-CSCF; obtaining, by the I-CSCF, information of a second S-CSCF, and forwarding the service request from the user to the second S-CSCF. Therefore, when multiple identities of the user simultaneously generate unregistered services, when they generate registration requests at the time of generating unregistered services, or when they simultaneously generate registration requests, the I-CSCF forwards the service request from the user to a corresponding S-CSCF for processing, thus enabling a network to normally provide services for the user.

  • Patent number: 8379651
Abstract: Computerized methods, systems, and computer-storage media for establishing and managing a transmission control protocol (TCP)-based tunnel (“tunnel”) are provided. The tunnel spans between a data center and a private enterprise network and connects endpoints, of a service application, that reside in each location. During communication, the endpoints transmit data packets over one or more channels (e.g., higher-level channel and lower-level channel) that comprise the tunnel. Each of the channels supports reliability mechanisms (e.g., congestion-control mechanism and loss-recovery mechanism) integrally running thereon, for ensuring complete data-packet delivery. To prevent unwarranted performance degradation caused by duplicative efforts of reliability mechanisms, a fabric controller is employed to selectively disable one or more of the reliability mechanisms individually.

  • Patent number: 8379572
Abstract: A method and system to allow wireless devices, such as wirelessly-equipped digital cameras, to gain wireless packet-data connectivity and to interact with a media management server, such as a photo server. A wireless carrier distributes multiple devices all having the same set of radio access data (e.g., mobile identification number and electronic serial number), and all having shared or unique pre-registration data. Any such device can then readily use the shared radio access data to acquire radio connectivity and can then use the pre-registration data to gain access to the media management server. The first time such a device connects with the media management server using the pre-registration data, the server will engage in a online account registration session with the device and provision the device with post-registration data that the device can thereafter use to access the online account.

Abstract: A device, system, and method are directed towards communicating mobile information over a network. A mobile message (MM) is generated by an Internet Protocol (IP) enabled application interface. The MM may include advertising information. The MM is received at a routing server and comprises a destination phone number and/or advertising information. If the MM is determined to be locally processed, the routing server selectively routes the MM to a destination carrier associated with the destination phone number. If the MM is determined to be remotely processed, the MM is recursively forwarded until the MM reaches another routing server associated with the destination phone number. The other routing server is configured to selectively route the MM to the destination carrier. A response MM may be received at a boundary routing server.

  • Patent number: 8340673
Abstract: Communication networks and methods are disclosed that provide call delivery to a dual mode wireless device served by a wireless data network (e.g., WiFi/IMS network) and a wireless voice network (e.g., cellular network). A call control function in the wireless data network is adapted to receive a call to the dual mode wireless device. The call control function transmits a ping message to the dual mode wireless device over the wireless data network to determine if the device is available over the wireless data network for the call. If the call control function receives a response to the ping message from the device, then the call control function attempts to set up the call over the wireless data network. If the call control function does not receive a response to the ping message, then the call control function may attempt to set up the call over the wireless voice network.
