  • Patent number: 8837554
Abstract: A cellular communication system comprises a Multiple-In Multiple-Out (MIMO) transmitter and receiver. The MIMO transmitter comprises a message generator for generating MIMO messages comprising selected training sequences and transceivers transmitting the messages on a plurality of antennas. The training sequences are selected by a midamble selector from a set of training sequences in response to an associated antenna on which the message is to be transmitted. The set of training sequences is associated with the cell of the MIMO transmitter and comprises disjoint subsets of training sequences for each of the plurality of antennas. The receiver comprises a transmit antenna detector which determines which antenna of the MIMO transmitter the message is transmitted from in response to the training sequence of the received message.

The first and the second transform matrices are orthogonal.

Abstract: A system and method is provided for estimating the channel in OFDM transmission with inter-carrier interference (ICI). A channel in a data subcarrier in a subchannel shared between pilot subcarriers and data subcarriers can be estimated by performing interpolation based on estimated channels in pilot subcarriers in the same OFDM symbol as the subcarrier, such as through spline interpolation. A second estimate of the channel in the subcarrier can be produced by averaging an estimate of the channel in a subcarrier in the subchannel in a previous OFDM symbol and an estimate of the channel in a subcarrier in the subchannel in a succeeding OFDM symbol. A third estimate of the channel in the subcarrier can be produced through a linear combination of the first estimate and the second estimate. The channel in data subcarriers can be estimated through a weighted sum of the channel in nearest subcarriers.

Abstract: Embodiments describe a varied transmission time interval in wireless communication system. According to some embodiments is a method for assigning a transmission time interval. The method can include measuring a channel condition and/or a data rate of packet communicated by at least one wireless device. Based in part on the data rate and/or channel condition information, a determination can be made whether to schedule a long transmission time interval or a short transmission time interval to the packet. A long transmission time interval can be scheduled if the channel condition is poor and/or there is a low data rate. A short transmission time interval can be scheduled if the channel condition is good and/or the data rate is high or fast. The method can be repeated for multiple wireless devices. Also included is an alternative interlacing structure that supports both long transmission time intervals and short transmission time intervals.

  • Patent number: 8638809
Abstract: The present disclosure generally pertains to systems and methods for compensating for repetitive impulse noise (REIN) affecting signals that are communicated over a telecommunication channel. A system in accordance with one exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure includes a transmitter and receiver that communicate over a telecommunication channel. The data is encoded by the transmitter using a forward error correction (FEC) algorithm, such as Reed-Solomon coding, before being transmitted over a telecommunication channel to the receiver. The REIN tracker analyzes the data received by the receiver in order to predict when future occurrences of REIN will likely affect the data being communicated over the channel. The REIN tracker then marks erasures in a received data stream based on its REIN predictions. A decoder then decodes FEC code words in the data stream based on the marked erasures.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a first system receives N data transmissions from a second system. The first system sends the bits at the selected position of the communication channel. The second system, upon receiving the bits sent at the selected position of the communication channel, decodes the N ACK/NACK responses based on the position at which the bits are sent and the bits.
