Abstract: A system and method for hand-off maintenance is disclosed. The present invention relates to communication networks and particularly, to network interfaces in communication networks. In existing hand-off mechanisms, when a restart occurs in a Media Gateway, the Media Gateway always tries to register back to the primary Media Gateway Controller, which is under maintenance. As the primary Media Gateway Controller cannot address the request, calls running on the Media Gateway will be affected leading to abrupt release of calls. The method provides a solution to the problem by rejecting service requests from the Media Gateway that are already handed off at the Media Gateway. Further, at Media Gateway level not to register requests to the primary Media Gateway Controller, when a primary Media Gateway Controller is under maintenance. When the primary Media Gateway Controller is under maintenance, requests are directed to the secondary Media Gateway Controller.

Abstract: A network device receives a packet that includes a plurality of sets of fields. Sets of fields of the packet are parsed and the field sets are evaluated as soon as they are available to determine whether a processing decision can be made on the packet. Additional field sets may be parsed from the packet and obtained in parallel with determining whether a processing decision can be made, but once it is determined that a processing decision can be made, the evaluating of field sets is terminated such that any further field sets of the packet are ignored for purposes of making a processing decision for the packet.

Abstract: Exact data-rate analysis of the information signal portions to be transmitted in a subsequent transmission cycle per time-division multiplexing process shall be initially omitted. Instead, on the basis of highly accurate estimated values for the subsequent data rates, estimated values for relative waiting times are transmitted, in a current transmission cycle, from the current time slice to the subsequent time slice of the same service. In the subsequent transmission cycle, actual data rates may be set which may deviate from the estimated data rates for the individual information signals, as a result of which predicted time-slice boundaries for the subsequent transmission cycle may shift. However, the potential shift in the time-slice boundaries is subject to several boundary conditions. No time slice of the subsequent transmission cycle can start prior to its signaled estimated starting time. With constant data rates, the estimated time-slice structure and the actual time-slice structure are identical.

Abstract: A system and method are described to provide a next generation cable gateway/modem based on the DOCSIS standard with a scheme to synchronously combine channels in the physical layer to increase overall bit rates for coaxial cable data transmission. The systems and methods synchronize the counters associated with multiple channels, including continuity counters, at the transmitter to zero and then allow the counters on individual channels to increment individually. At the receiver, individual channel delays of individual channels will be thus recognizable based on the information provided by the counters associated with each channel. A buffer at the receiver is informed and used to individually delay one or more of the multiple channels to marry up continuity counter values. In this manner, the buffer acts to essentially equalize delays in individual channels with the continuity counter representing the mechanism for specifying the individual delays for the separate channels.

Abstract: A method of TDM in-device coexistence (IDC) interference avoidance is proposed. In a wireless communication device, a first radio module is co-located with a second radio module in the same device platform. The first radio module then determines a desired TDM pattern based on the traffic and scheduling information to prevent IDC interference with the second radio module. The first radio module also transmits TDM coexistence pattern information based on the desired TDM pattern to a base station. In one embodiment, the TDM coexistence pattern information comprises a recommended TDM pattern periodicity and a scheduling period to maximize IDC efficiency subject to limited level of IDC interference possibility. In one specific example, the TDM coexistence pattern information comprises a set of discontinuous reception (DRX) configuration parameters defined in long-term evolution (LTE) 3GPP standards.

Abstract: A method for detecting a channel in a mixed-mode communications system is presented. The channel contains a primary synchronization pattern in a predetermined location within the channel. The primary synchronization pattern is compared against different predetermined channel synchronization patterns to detect a channel. Upon detection of the channel, a look-back channel detector confirms the existence of the channel by using the location of the primary synchronization pattern. Detection and confirmation of the channel may be employed simultaneously to each channel of a multiple-channel direct mode of operation signal. Audio holes may be eliminated in a 2:1 TDMA direct mode operation where both time slots contain signals from two different originating communication devices and the signals have different priority.
