  • Patent number: 8315593
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a method for placing a call between a client in one network and a client in another network. The IP network includes a SIP server and a network gateway configured to provide access to a public switched network. The method includes receiving a SIP call request message from the first client. The SIP call request message is authenticated to thereby identify an authentic originating client. Subsequently, a database is searched to find client billing tag corresponding to the authentic originating client. The call is completed if the client billing tag is obtained, and not completed if the client billing tag cannot be obtained. Thus, the present invention provides an efficient method for billing phone calls that are placed from SIP enabled devices to a telephone connected to the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). The method of the present invention also substantially eliminates certain types of fraud.

  • Patent number: 7142647
Abstract: Techniques for storing data used in making announcements in telephone communications are disclosed. In an embodiment, an announcement depends on classes of services associated with telephone subscribers. The classes of services represent call types or call features such as call-forwarding unconditional, call-forwarding busy, call-forwarding no answer, etc. A first database associates subscribed phone numbers with a class of service. A second database defines the class of services such as the call types, the telephone digit pattern in the subscribed telephone numbers, the condition for an announcement, etc. A third database defines a default class of service for use in case a phone number is not associated with a class of service in the first database.

  • Patent number: 7072454
Abstract: A system routes local toll-free calls dialed to a toll-free number via local switches and network onto interconnecting local providers with local access settlement rates, thereby allowing a local rather than toll cost structure. The system operates with existing a subscriber's existing toll-free service provider. When an originating number is identified as an LCA or intraLATA call, the system routes the local toll-free call from the SCP network to participating local switches that service the subscriber's terminating number. The originating calls are separated between the LCA and the rest of the LATA based upon the NPA-NXXs that are considered local to the subscriber's terminating number. The system also provides for routing local toll free calls and for reporting each local toll free call to the subscriber.

  • Patent number: 7072639
Abstract: In general, a system and method for analyzing wireless communication data for determining an optimal wireless communication service plans based on historical projection analysis is disclosed. A transceiver is configured to receive billing information associated with a subscriber of a telecommunications service under a current rate plan. A storage unit stores the billing information. A processor processes the subscriber related billing information to produce organized data in a calling profile record for each telecommunication service being used by the subscriber. The processor then creates a usage history table and a call detail table within the storage unit from the processed billing information in accordance with a specified billing period. A determination is then made of the cost of the current rate plan and the cost of at least one other rate plan via use of the usage history table and call detail table.

  • Patent number: 7042993
Abstract: In current telecommunications services, it is usual for the service provider of the initiator (e.g. the caller or the A-side) of the communications connection to determine the price and charge the A-side accordingly. The other subscribers are not usually charged. The A-side service provider pays a compensation amount (balance) to the B-side service provider. This fee charging and payment system is too rigid for modern communications services. The inventive method solves this problem.

Abstract: A method, computer program product, and data processing system for transferring mobile telephone minutes or other mobile telephone services or features from one customer to another is disclosed. A customer dials into an interactive service that allows the customer to specify one or more recipients and a number of minutes, services, or features to transfer. A data processing system associated with the customer's mobile telephone service provider effects a transfer of minutes, services, or features from the customer's account to the recipients' accounts. In addition, a notification that the transfer has occurred can be sent to the recipients.

  • Patent number: 6968047
Abstract: A method for parity analysis and remedy calculation is provided. The method uses performance measurements that measure the timeliness, accuracy and availability of the services provided by an incumbent local exchange carrier (“ILEC”) to determine whether parity exists between services provided to the ILEC and services provided to a competitive local exchange carrier (“CLEC”). The performance measurements are compared at an appropriate level so that a like-to-like comparison is made. The difference between the average of the ILEC performance measurements and the average of the CLEC performance measurements is computed. An aggregate difference measurement is also computed and is used to determine whether parity exists. If parity does not exist, then a remedy is calculated.

Abstract: A local communication space (e.g., a local calling area) is defined based at least on a non-geographic factor, such as subscriber preference, a frequency of communication with a given destination, a destination type, and/or the like. The local communication space may be defined by compiling a list of communication spaces and allowing a subscriber to select one or more of the communication spaces as his or her local communication space, and/or by allowing a subscriber to individually input one or more communication destinations. A limit may be placed on the number of communication spaces that may be selected and/or on the number of individual communications destinations that may be input. Subscribers may be billed according to how many communication spaces and/or how many individual communication destinations they select.
