Abstract: There is provided a group communication system allowing group communication to be performed by a simple operation as well as a group ID number issuing apparatus and a call control apparatus to be applied to such a group communication system. When a user takes a group organization procedure to the group communication system, a group representative telephone number representing the group is issued. After the group representative telephone number is issued, the group representative telephone number can be used in the same manner as for calling a subscriber to call a group member to perform group communication. The group communication can be performed by limiting to a lower level subgroup, a pair of the group representative telephone number and an identifier can be used instead of the subscriber's telephone number to determine the calling partner to make a call.

Abstract: Stored in an each speaker's sound volume coefficient table 13 are a speaker identification ID and information of a voice coefficient so as to be correlated with each other. A speaker identification unit 11 extracts an each speaker's ID from a received packet based on floor control information or outputs the packet as an RTP packet to an RTP buffer. A sound volume control unit 12 executes a control program 14a of a recording medium 14 to record a current speaker identification ID and reads a sound volume coefficient relevant to the speaker identification ID from the each speaker's sound volume coefficient table 13 to output the coefficient as sound volume control information. In this case, the sound volume control unit 12 increments/decrements the relevant sound volume coefficient based on sound volume adjustment information of a sound volume adjustment unit.

Abstract: A method (100) and system (20) for multiparty communication using at least one dual mode communication device includes a dual mode radio (11) having at least a first modem (12) for operation on a first network and a second modem (13) for operation on a second network and a processor (55) coupled to the radio. The dual mode radio can be programmed to establish (102) an interconnect call on a first network between the dual mode radio and a second communication device, receive (104) a request for a private call on a second network from a third communication device, and mix and route (106) audio from the private call and the interconnect call at the dual mode radio when a multiparty call mode is selectively chosen. The dual mode radio can be a first modem operating on a CDMA network and a second modem operating on an iDEN network.

Abstract: An n-ways conferencing system using only the participants' telephony devices and without an external conference server. A plurality of telephony devices dial in to and report their mixing capability to a connection topology manager. The connection topology manager also determines the location of each telephony device and neighboring telephony device pairs in the conference service, as each telephony device is used for mixing voice signals of its closest neighbors, and calculates a minimum conference traffic delay for each telephony device. The connection topology manager then builds a topology for the conference service based on the mixing capability, location, and minimum conference traffic delay, wherein the connection topology manager distributes a mixing computation in a substantially uniform manner across the plurality of telephony devices. When a change in the network condition is detected, the connection topology manager rebuilds the topology to bypass the change in the network condition.

Abstract: A method for using a centralized conference call manager is provided for initiating conference calls. Users register with the centralized conference call manager to set up a conference call at a future date and time. When the designated time/date arrive, the centralized conference call manager contacts the various intended attendees using a variety of contact locations (e.g., office telephone, mobile telephone, home telephone, etc.). The system further allows an intended attendee to, when contacted by the centralized conference call manager, provide a different contact number that the conference call manager will use instead. An anticipated attendee can decline the call and provide a verbal reason for not being able to attend. The centralized conference call manager records the reason and, when requested, plays the reason back to the other attendees.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method for managing a packet switched, centralized conference call between a plurality of terminals 13. In order to enable an enhancement of the user comfort, it is proposed that the method comprises at a conference call server 12 receiving data packets from all terminals 13. Based on these data packets, then at least one terminal 13 currently providing voice data is determined. In a next step, the data received in the data packets is mixed, and the mixed data is inserted into new data packets together with at least one identifier associated to one of the terminals 13 which were determined to provide voice data, such that the at least one identifier can be distinguished from any other information in the data packets. Finally, the new data packets are transmitted to terminals 13 participating in the conference call. The invention relates equally to a corresponding server and to a corresponding terminal.

The following is repeated for each signal: the content associated with a signal is examined, whether the signal is a voice signal is determined in accordance with the content, and the signals are sent to a signal combiner in accordance with the determination of whether the signal is a voice signal. The signals are combined at the signal combiner.

Abstract: Described in this paper are systems and methods of providing conferencing services where a conference participant is identified by the conferencing system when calling into the system. The system and methods focus on individual users instead of groups of participants. Instead of using a conference identity as the driver, embodiments herein invoke a user identity, and services are personalized for each user. The user has far fewer codes to juggle and all participants enjoy a quicker, richer, and more secure experience.

Abstract: A system to allow a conferee defined as a nuisance source to respond to an automatic nuisance decision of a Multipoint Control Unit is disclosed. For example, a conferee placing a conference on hold may generate on hold music, which may be identified by a nuisance detector. The nuisance detector sends an indication of the nuisance condition to a control unit in the MCU. The control unit mutes the signal coming from this conferee and sends an Interactive Voice Response (IVR) message to the conferee. The message may inform the conferee that he has been muted and requests the conferee for example to press one of a plurality of touch tone keys depending on his situation. For instance, the conferee can select particular keys if he is returning from the hold condition, if he is experiencing a noisy line/environment and needs to reduce the sensitivity of the nuisance detector algorithm, or if he wishes to disable the nuisance detector algorithm.

Abstract: A system and method for providing data network-assisted conference service to a wireless terminal. Conference-related information is received from a conference originator and stored. Prior to conference establishment time, a conference notification message is sent to the wireless terminal. A conference connection request is sent by the wireless terminal in response to the conference notification message, and a conference connection is established between the wireless terminal and a conference bridge that connects all conference participants.

Abstract: A signal processing system is provided which receives signals from a number of different sensors which are representative of signals generated from a plurality of sources. The sensed signals are processed to determine the relative position of each of the sources relative to the sensors. This information is then used to separate the signals from each of the sources. The system can be used, for example, to separate the speech signal generated from a number of users in a meeting.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a method for joining a meet-me conference call includes but is not limited to presenting an option to specify a quorum associated with a meet-me conference call, in response to user input to an application program co-resident with a terminal. In one embodiment, the user input includes but is not limited to an indication that the user is requesting to join a meet-me conference call. In one embodiment, the presenting an option to specify a quorum is done in response to the user input includes but is not limited to an indication that the user is requesting to specify a quorum either at the time at which a meet-me call is being scheduled, or at a time prior to a time at which a meet-me conference call is to transpire.

Abstract: Within an interactive voice response system, a method of aggregating conference calls can include registering a caller with the interactive voice response system, accessing a calendar system used by the registered caller to determine teleconference data specifying at least a telephone number for a scheduled conference call, and, at approximately a time of the conference call, automatically calling the telephone number for the conference call. The method also can include establishing contact with the registered caller and joining the registered caller with the conference call.

Abstract: An auditory scene is synthesized by applying two or more different sets of one or more spatial parameters (e.g., an inter-ear level difference (ILD), inter-ear time difference (ITD), and/or head-related transfer function (HRTF)) to two or more different frequency bands of a combined audio signal, where each different frequency band is treated as if it corresponded to a single audio source in the auditory scene. In one embodiment, the combined audio signal corresponds to the combination of two or more different source signals, where each different frequency band corresponds to a region of the combined audio signal in which one of the source signals dominates the others. In this embodiment, the different sets of spatial parameters are applied to synthesize an auditory scene comprising the different source signals. In another embodiment, the combined audio signal corresponds to the combination of the left and right audio signals of a binaural signal corresponding to an input auditory scene.

Abstract: A method and system for adding a participant to a conference call. A feature of the method and system is that with respect to individual invitees to ad-hoc conference calls, the conference call can essentially be “turned around” and treated “as if” the individual invitees were dialing in to a “meet me” conference call, if it is determined that such is the more optimum calling method. A multipoint controller unit, in conjunction with a Call Optimization Application (COA), utilizes information contained in one or more tokens to make possible the change in call direction. The optimal call direction is established via a COA channel.

Abstract: A network device and its mode of operation. The network device includes an input port through which audio streams may be received. A controller receives a user input indicating which type of mix the user wants applied to the audio stream and applies the mixing factor designated. The mixing factor may be a stereo mix, a panned mix, or a mono mix. The network device also includes an output port through which the mixed audio stream can be transmitted to the user.

Abstract: A conferencing method not requiring additional or dedicated hardware in a processor controlled telephone terminal, nor requiring an external conference bridge, is provided by one of the terminals designating the conference, processing signals from two other conferees and delaying only two of the conferees active talkers at any given time. The two active conferees do not receive their own signal. An active conferee remains declared active during a dynamic hangover time, which varies between a minimum and a maximum corresponding to the activity time of the conferee.

Abstract: The system, apparatus and method of the present invention provide telecommunication conferencing services in a multiple leg telecommunication session. One of the system embodiments includes a database and a switching center. The database has stored in a memory a plurality of secondary directory numbers and a conference parameter associated with a primary directory number. The switching center has an interface for receiving an incoming call leg designating the primary directory number and for determining whether the primary directory number and its associated plurality of secondary directory numbers are configured for a conference mode.

Abstract: A system and method for accessing the internet on a per-time basis, through an Internet service provider (ISP), includes an access station. Application software is provided to an electronic terminal, from which Internet access may be attempted. Upon initiation of the application, the access station is dialed, and a number of processing steps serve as a precondition to permitting the electronic terminal to access the Internet through the Internet service provider. In particular, upon an initial attempt to access the Internet, the access station sets up an account in which the telephone number from which access is attempted is utilized for subsequent billing purposes. The access station further determines whether the telephone number from which access is desired is within an acceptable network, is associated with an undesirable credit risk, and is a valid telephone number.

Abstract: A telephone interface (110) that supports a first and a second conference call service is provided in a telephone-capable apparatus (102). An input device (122) is further provided, allowing a conference call conferee to provide participation status data to a controller (116, 118) of the apparatus. The controller provides a message to a switch (104), responsive to the participation status data, instructing the switch to provide the apparatus with communication resources commensurate with the participation status data. When the participation status data indicates that the conferee is a speaking and listening conferee, the message instructs the switch to provide resources sufficient to support the first conference call service and a send-only version of the second conference call service.

Abstract: A collaborative multimedia system includes a plurality of notebook processes operatively interconnected over a computer network to a conference server, and, an optional podium process capable of controlling the priority of communications within the conference. The notebook processes are capable of privately communicating with other conference participants in addition to participating in the conference. A sophisticated graphic user interface provides public and private whiteboard areas by which graphic information may be exchanged with other processes in a conference or over separate communication link.

Abstract: A method of coordinating an incoming call among a plurality of telephony devices includes generating an incoming call notification signal and a call status signal at each telephony device. In the presence of the incoming call, the incoming call notification signal is generated at each telephony device. Upon answering of the incoming call at an answering telephony device of the plurality of telephony devices, the call status signal is generated at each telephony device to inform a user of a status of the answered call.

Abstract: A solution to the music-on-hold problem associated with audio conference calls. The music on-hold-problem occurs when a conferee having music-on-hold puts the conference call on hold, resulting in a continuous stream of music being transmitted to the other conferees. Such a conferee is called an offending conferee. The solution presented herein is to prevent music-on-hold signals emanating from an offending conferee from being passed through an audio conference bridge to the other conferees. This is accomplished, in particular embodiments, by directing a merging/summing subsystem of the audio conference bridge to temporarily stop combining audio emanating from the offending conferee from being combined or merged onto audio channels through which the other conferees communicate on the audio conference.

Abstract: An IP telephony client initiates and manages multimedia sessions. The client includes a user interface, an application interface, and a protocol stack. The application interface provides an interface between the protocol stack and the user interface and helper applications. The protocol stack packages messages received from the application interface and parses messages received from other parties or prospective parties. The application interface converts incoming messages to appropriate application programming interfaces (APIs) and sends incoming payloads to the appropriate helper application.

Abstract: A management and control unit for a network-based conferencing system has an interface for outputting control signals to a platform for establishing audio connections across a network between users. Another interface receives control signals from a platform for providing a graphical user interface to a user, for use in controlling the conferencing system. The unit has access to a database for maintaining management data relating to one or more existing conferences. The management and control unit receives control signals input by a user at the graphical user interface in respect of an audio conference, and outputs control signals to the platform for establishing audio connections. An audio conference can thus be established between the user and at least two other users over the network. Management data can be transmitted to the graphical user interface during a conference for use in managing the conference.

Abstract: A system and method that provides control of a conference call. A controlling party enters a code and is isolated from the conference. Each conference participant is sequentially connected to the controlling party so that the controlling party may determine the noise level on that leg of the call. If there is no excess noise, then the controlling party may enter a code which causes the switch to select the next party on the conference call. When the controlling party discerns the offending conference participant, the controlling party can signal the switch to drop the offending party. The controlling party may then rejoin all of the conference participants.
