  • Patent number: 9253325
Abstract: Methods and implementations of online technical support management are described herein. In some examples, techniques are described to estimate an allocation of resources (e.g., technical support agents) to consumers (e.g., technical support users), through the definition of desired scenario data inputs, the definition of resource scenario changes, and the generation of a projected scenario to model resource demand and projected queues. A regression analysis may be performed on the projected scenario to determine relationships among variables in the projected scenario. Based on the results of the regression analysis, metrics such as waiting times in the queue (including an average time to answer) may be calculated, and appropriate human and technical resources may be scheduled, re-allocated, or otherwise controlled.

  • Patent number: 9118583
Abstract: The disclosed embodiments include a system, computer program product, and method for routing a call over a packet network. A call request may be received from a calling party to call a called party at a network address. At least one potential call path over a packet network may be determined to connect the calling party to the called party at the network address. Network performance information associated with each potential call path may be accessed and a determination may be made that each of the call paths are impaired or congested. In response to determining that each of the call paths are impaired or congested, the call may be routed over a call path other than one of the at least one potential call paths to enable the calling party to communicate with the called party.

  • Patent number: 9001990
Abstract: Methods, systems, and computer program products for providing telecommunication services between a SIP network and an SS7 network are disclosed. In one method, SIP/SS7 gateway receives an INVITE message from a SIP proxy server. The SIP/SS7 gateway extracts a called party number from the INVITE message and determines whether a telecommunications service is required and a type of service required for the INVITE message based on the called party number. The SIP/SS7 gateway then formulates an SS7 query to a database corresponding to the identified service type. The SIP/SS7 gateway receives a response from the database and uses data from the response to facilitate completion of the call. In one example, the SIP/SS7 gateway may forward a routing number extracted from the response back to the originating SIP proxy server. In another example, the SIP/SS7 gateway may generate a new INVITE message and forward the new INVITE message to a terminating SIP proxy server.

  • Patent number: 8693665
Abstract: A method and apparatus for enabling a packet network provider, e.g., a VoIP network provider, to terminate long distance calls using both CLEC PRI access links and regulated LEC access links depending on whether or not the wholesale customer wants to treat outgoing calls in a regulated manner similar to traditional Public Switched Access Network (PSTN) calls or apply FCC information service exemptions to outgoing calls are disclosed. Based on the calling party number of a call, the network can determine if the call should be terminated as an information service call or a regulated PSTN call. Once the call termination method is determined, the appropriate access link can be chosen for call completion.

  • Patent number: 8688079
Abstract: A mobile device can send a notification to place a call using a PBX (e.g., using SIP signaling) or receive a notification of call availability for the mobile device at the PBX. An authentication token is provided over a data channel for use in authenticating the mobile device when calling the PBX on a voice channel. However, when the mobile device calls the PBX (e.g., on a DNIS number, where ANI information is made available to an application server), if ANI information is found to correspond to the mobile device, the PBX can send tone(s) indicating that the mobile device can respond with an abbreviated validation tone, rather than the entirety of the authentication token. If the ANI information is not obtained or not matched, then a different tone(s) is sent, indicating to provide the authentication token. If the authentication token provided does not match or if the mobile device does not respond, the voice channel is not set up.

  • Patent number: 8670535
Abstract: Providing non-voice capabilities relating to a phone call at a computing device includes receiving a request to begin a telephone call from a first telephone to a second telephone, wherein the requesting is performed using messaging between computing devices connected via a computer network, and wherein the messaging is part of a signaling phase dialog. The signaling phase dialog may be used in providing information associated with the identity of parties of the telephone call. Commencing a call phase dialog between the computing devices may be performed after the telephone call is established over the public switched telephone network. The call phase dialog may allow messages relating to the telephone call to be passed between the computing devices, at least while the telephone call is in progress. The dialogs and messaging may be performed using session initiation protocol (SIP) or another computer communication protocol.

  • Patent number: 8670556
Abstract: A communication system includes a local communication device that communicates with a remote communication device via a wired or wireless communication link between the devices. The local communication device and the remote communication device are each capable of switching between a multiple user mode and a single user private mode in response to a mode change request. The local and remote communication devices include respective profiles that include profile attributes that define how the respective communication device responds to a mode change request. A user of one communication device may send a mode change request to the other communication device. In response to the mode change request, the other communication device changes mode between multiple participant mode and single participant mode if the profile of that communication device permits the mode change.

  • Patent number: 8670547
Abstract: A method of operating a telecommunications network includes, in one embodiment, detecting a call at an originating switch of the telecommunications network and, when a destination for the call matches a predetermined destination, routing the call on designated data trunks. When traffic on the designated data trunks exceeds a capacity threshold, the method further includes routing the call to a terminating switch using interoffice trunks and completing the call to the destination from the terminating switch.

  • Patent number: 8656169
Abstract: A method for negotiating a security capability when a terminal moves is provided. When a user equipment (UE) moves from a second/third generation (2G/3G) network to a long term evolution (LTE) network, the method includes the following steps. A mobility management entity (MME) acquires a non-access signaling (NAS) security algorithm supported by the UE, and an authentication vector-related key or a root key derived according to the authentication vector-related key, selects an NAS security algorithm, derives an NAS protection key according to the authentication vector-related key or the root key, and sends a message carrying the selected NAS security algorithm to the UE. The UE derives an NAS protection key according to an authentication vector-related key thereof. A system for negotiating a security capability when a terminal moves, a UE, and an MME are further provided.

  • Patent number: 8605713
Abstract: A method and system of negotiating Media Gateways (MGs) between a plurality of call control nodes (CCNs). The system includes an originating CCN which builds an original list of configured Media Gateways capable of being used in a call by the originating CCN. The first CCN associates an identifier and a priority with each Media Gateway in the list prior to sending the list to a subsequent CCN. The subsequent CCN removes from the original list any identifiers associated with any MG in the original list of identifiers which is not capable of being used in the call by the subsequent CCN. The subsequent CCN then forms a modified list of identifiers associated with at least one MG capable of being used in a call by the originating CCN and the subsequent CCN. The subsequent CCN also selects a specified MG from the modified list and sends a first backward message from the second CCN to the originating CCN identifying the specified MG.

  • Patent number: 8600024
Abstract: A method and system for providing computer-network related information about a second party. First, the second party receives a telephone number of a first party. The second party's customer premises equipment (CPE) or elements in a telephone network then use the telephone number to index a database, which contains combinations of telephone numbers and computer-network addresses. Once the first party's computer-network address is retrieved, first-party-customized information present at the computer-network location specified by the computer-network address can be sent to and displayed on the second party's CPE. Also, the first party's telephone number can be sent to an application in the computer network, causing the first-party-customized information to be automatically displayed on the second party's CPE.
