Abstract: A method of performing expedited communication functions on a mobile device includes monitoring the duration-of key press on a keyboard of the mobile device and determining if the monitored duration of the key press is greater than a threshold duration. If the monitored duration of the key press is determined to be less than a threshold duration, then a primary key function associated with the pressed key is activated. If the monitored duration of the key press is determined to be greater than a threshold duration, then an expedited communication function associated with the pressed key is activated.

Abstract: A method for registering dialing information contemplates the steps of: inputting dialing information for storage in a dial buffer; registering in memory the dialing information stored in the dial buffer; sorting the dialing information registered in memory in an order such that the more recently registered dialing information is arranged before the less recently registered dialing information; and automatically deleting from memory dialing information which has not been redialed within a predetermined number of dialing operations.

Abstract: A method for automatic input and transmission of a pass word when using a telephone set permits a simple pass word input by using only one pass word button when different pass words are used for various service fields or operations mode. The method for input and transmission of pass words can include performing a set-up-mode by using the single pass word button and storing different telephone numbers and pass words for the telephone numbers, dialing one of the telephone numbers, and pressing the single pass word button if a message requiring pass word input is received (e.g., output by the dialed telephone number upon connection). Preferably, automatic transmission of the pass word for the dialed telephone number is performed responsive to the pass word button in off-hook operations, and entry of telephone numbers, which require pass words, and each corresponding pass word is performed responsive to the pass word button in on-hook operations.

Abstract: A device which stores frequently used data items in a retrieval list for easy retrieval and use. An example is a telephone operative to identify frequently-dialed telephone numbers and prompt a user to store frequently-dialed numbers in a speed-dial list. When a number is entered in the telephone, the number is compared with a log of stored numbers. Each stored number has an associated usage frequency. If the entered number is present in the log, the usage frequency of the entered number is updated. If the entered number is not present, the entered number is stored along with an initial usage frequency. The usage frequency of the number is compared against a predetermined criterion, and if the criterion is met the user is prompted to store the entered number in an empty space in the speed-dial list, or to replace an already existing entry in the speed-dial list with the entered number. Any of numerous alternatives may be chosen for prompting of the user and storage of the entered number.

Abstract: A custom telephone apparatus and a method of manufacturing same are provided. In addition to conventional telephone features, the custom telephone includes a memory that is permanently pre-programmed with one or more area codes according to a particular geographic region or as requested by a particular user. The telephone includes permanently labeled area code selector switches or buttons that, when depressed by a user, cause the telephone to dial the area code and any required leading “1” or other digits as a prefix to the telephone number entered by the user by way of a conventional key pad. Thus, the user need only depress a single button to dial “1” plus the area code before a telephone number is entered into the telephone. The memory can also be permanently programmed with one or more complete custom telephone numbers as specified in advance by a particular user.

Abstract: Embodiments provide a method, article of manufacture, and apparatus for customizing a telephone calling card operation. In one embodiment, the calling card may be customized to redial a last number by entering a pre-defined shortcut sequence. In another embodiment, a search tool is used to search for a particular number using one or more pre-stored address books.
