  • Patent number: 7813485
Abstract: An interactive visual menu system seamlessly integrates an interactive visual menu with an audio menu provided in an interactive voice response system. The system augments a voice menu by displaying the content of the voice menu to a caller. The system assumes that the caller is placing a call near an interactive device such as a computer and the user is logged onto the interactive device using, for example, instant messaging. The system “pushes” a graphical menu through the Internet onto the interactive device. Display of the graphical menu is synchronized with the audio menu. The caller selects the desired choices either by pressing the phone keypad or by clicking on graphical menus on the interactive device; both voice and visual information are updated accordingly.

  • Patent number: 7738635
Abstract: A method for improving the recognition confidence of alphanumeric spoken input, suitable for use in a speech recognition telephony application such as a voice response system. An alphanumeric candidate is determined from the spoken input, which may be the best available representation of the spoken input. Recognition confidence is compared with a preestablished threshold. If the recognition confidence exceeds the threshold, the alphanumeric candidate is selected to represent the spoken input. Otherwise, present call data associated with the spoken input is determined. Call data may include automatic number identification (ANI) information, caller-ID information, and/or dialed number information service (DNIS) information. Information associated with the alphanumeric candidate and information associated with the present call data are correlated in order to select alphanumeric information that best represents the spoken input.

Abstract: Methods, apparatus and computer program products for automatically identifying a calling party using voice recognition. Voice recognition is the computing task of identifying or validating a person's identity using characteristics of their voice. A first voice record is obtained from an identifiable party and associated with a voice identifier. When a second voice record is received from a calling party, the voice in the second voice record is compared to the voice in the first voice record to determine the identity of the calling party. If the there is a match between the voice in the second voice record and the voice in the previously obtained first voice record, then the called party is notified of the identity of the calling party. A voice identifier, when available, is preferably displayed to the called party on a screen instead of caller ID information.

A system enables a user to search for a text label associated with portions of unrecognized recorded sound by uttering the label's words. A large-vocabulary system allows users to switch between playing back recorded audio and speech recognition with a single input, with successive audio playbacks automatically starting slightly before the end of prior playback. And a cell phone that allows both large-vocabulary speech recognition and audio recording and playback.

Abstract: A system includes a network interface, a speech input conversion component, and a routing module. Speech input is received in connection with a call. At least a segment of the speech input is transformed into a first textual format. A first list of entries is generated based, at least partially, on consideration of the first textual format. The first list includes at least one action with a corresponding confidence level and at least one object with another corresponding confidence level. An entry of the first list having a higher corresponding confidence level is selected, and a second textual format is output. A second list is generated based, at least partially, on consideration of the selected entry and the second textual format. A routing option is suggested based on the selected entry and a pairing entry in the second list.

Abstract: In one embodiment, a system authenticates a caller before providing the caller with access to one or more secured resources. Identification and verification data is stored during system enrollment of known persons. A processing system, in a current call initiated by a caller and prior to identification of the caller, receives voice-based information for the caller including a digital representation of a telephone number spoken by the caller in the current call, the received information including voice-based identification information and voice-based verification information for the caller. The processing system automatically compares the received identification information and the received verification information for the caller with the stored identification and verification data for known persons, respectively, to uniquely identify and verify the identity of the caller as a particular known person. The processing system authenticates the caller for access to the one or more secured resources in response.

Abstract: According to a disclosed embodiment, an incoming call from a first telephone number is received (310). A variable indicating the number of calls received from the first telephone number is incremented (312). The variable is compared to a threshold variable (316). Subsequently, the user is prompted to save the first telephone number in an address book (319) when the variable indicating the number of times an incoming call is received from the first telephone number is equal to, or greater than, the threshold variable. The first telephone number is then stored in the address book. Moreover, an apparatus can be assembled (200) to provide cellular telephone users with, for example, instructions and information via a speaker (228) and an LCD display (238). The apparatus is configured to provide instructions and information to the cellular telephone user at appropriate times, thereby increasing the cellular telephone's usefulness.

  • Patent number: 7477728
Abstract: In a fast, convenient voice dialing apparatus and method, users efficiently and conveniently apply a telephone number digit recognition engine to number dialing. By voicing only a subset of a telephone number among telephone numbers pre-registered in a telephone number directory, the success rate of number dialing and convenience of users increases. The voice dialing apparatus includes a fast voice dial mode setting unit, a contracted number database, a contracted number detection unit, and a telephone number connection unit. Since a user only needs to voice a subset of a telephone number stored in a telephone number directory, long telephone numbers are dialed with better recognition performance at an improved speed. Since telephone numbers that users try to call are pre-stored in a telephone number directory, the number of combinable numbers equals the number of lists registered in the telephone number directory, and recognition speed and performance are improved.

Abstract: A method of providing voice dialing assistance includes providing a first input to a speech recognition engine, with the first input corresponding to a speech sample provided by a caller attempting to reach an intended call recipient. A speech recognition output is generated in response to the first input. A potential call recipient is identified based upon the speech recognition output. A confirmation that the potential call recipient is the intended call recipient is implemented using a personal recording made by the potential call recipient.

Abstract: A system and method for voice activated dialing (VAD) using an intelligent peripheral (IP), such as a service circuit node (SCN) in an Advanced Intelligent Network (AIN). This invention preserves subscriber preferences for certain attributes including preferred interexchange carrier (PIC) and billing information, without the need for data replication within either the IP or the service switching point (SSP) hosting the IP. Additionally, call routing within the network is optimized and the need for double trunking is eliminated because the IP drops the call back to the originating SSP, from which the call is then routed.

Abstract: A method of executing operations in a voice-activated command system includes automatically initiating execution of a default operation. A user is then prompted, after the default operation has been initiated, to determine whether the user wishes to execute a second operation instead of the default operation. If the user wishes to execute the second operation instead of the default operation, execution of the default operation is terminated and execution of the second operation is initiated. In voice-activated and other command systems, such as voice dialing systems, this method allows the command system to execute the most probable operation without delay, while still making the system easily navigable by naïve users. Systems, computer readable medium and apparatus which implement the methods of the present invention are also disclosed.
