Plural Video Stream Multiplexing Patents (Class 380/212)
  • Patent number: 7958527
Abstract: A unified system of programming communication. The system encompasses the prior art (television, radio, broadcast hardcopy, computer communications, etc.) and new user specific mass media. Within the unified system, parallel processing computer systems, each having an input (e.g., 77) controlling a plurality of computers (e.g., 205), generate and output user information at receiver stations. Under broadcast control, local computers (73, 205), combine user information selectively into prior art communications to exhibit personalized mass media programming at video monitors (202), speakers (263), printers (221), etc. At intermediate transmission stations (e.g., cable television stations), signals in network broadcasts and from local inputs (74, 77, 97, 98) cause control processors (71) and computers (73) to selectively automate connection and operation of receivers (53), recorder/players (76), computers (73), generators (82), strippers (81), etc.

  • Patent number: 7930712
Abstract: An apparatus and method for processing content signals received from a plurality of different, and possibly dissimilar, signal sources, such as different satellite networks, and providing a display based on the content of those signals. The apparatus includes a tuner/demodulator for receiving content signals and demodulating the received content signals as programming bitstreams, and one or more access control devices for descrambling any conditional access present in the demodulated programming bitstreams. The apparatus further includes a processor, such as a system chip, which is responsible for all command and control functions. The system chip evaluates conditional access to determine whether the bitstream needs decryption, descrambling, or both, and processes a bitstream from one of the multiple signal sources for display on a suitable output device.

  • Patent number: 7929696
Abstract: A digital television (DTV) signal converter consistent with certain embodiments has a satellite band receiver that receives satellite television broadcast data from a satellite service and demodulates the satellite television broadcast data into a digital data stream. The digital data stream contains television content, satellite television logical channel identification information and electronic program guide data, and wherein television content, the logical channel identification information and the electronic program guide data are associated with a set of logical channels provided on the satellite service. A data mapper maps the satellite television logical channel identification information in the data stream to DTV channel identification information. A quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) modulator modulates the DTV channel identification information, the television content and the program guide data for transmission as an output comprising one or more QAM transport streams to a digital television.

Abstract: A multimedia stream head end includes a legacy conditional access (CA) device that fully encrypts the stream using legacy keys. A copy of the stream is sent to a secondary CA device that encrypts only critical packets in the stream using secondary keys to render a partially encrypted stream. The critical packets in the fully encrypted stream from the legacy CA device are obtained and inserted next to the corresponding critical packets in the partially encrypted stream. Thus, only critical packets are encrypted, with encrypted versions being generated by both the legacy CA and secondary CA without the legacy CA knowing which of the packets that it encrypts are “critical”.

The method is most useful when many digitally compressed programs are encrypted at the same time. Abstract: A method and apparatus for remote control and/or monitoring of a multimedia system includes processing that begins when a hand held device transmits a remote control/monitoring request to a server. The processing continues once a communication path is established between the hand held device and the server by having the server determine remote control and monitoring privileges of the hand held device. If the hand held device has at least a minimum level of remote control and monitoring privileges, the processing continues as the server processes the remote control/monitoring request with respect to at least one client to produce operational monitoring data. The processing continues as the server provides the operational monitoring data to the hand held device via the communication path.

Abstract: A digital television receiving system having a security mechanism which simultaneously handles two or more separate television program signals is described. The system includes a plurality of digital television receiver mechanisms for receiving a plurality of separate digital television program signal transport streams. The system also includes a multiplexer mechanism coupled to the digital television receiver mechanisms for tagging and multiplexing the received program signal transport streams into a single combined signal transport stream. The combined transport stream is supplied to a security mechanism which limits usable access to the combined stream to authorized users. The system further includes a demultiplexer mechanism for receiving an access-allowed combined transport stream from the security mechanism and demultiplexing the combined transport stream into separate transport streams corresponding to the separate transport streams received by the receiver mechanisms.

  • Patent number: 7499545
Abstract: A method and systems are provided for creating an authentication of secure communications between a software video driver and a video display. A video driver transmitting digital video data deemed high-bandwidth digital content, to a display, performs authentication to determine if a secure connection has been established with a display. The video driver and the display both generate encryption keys that are compared to ensure that the display used is authorized for secure communications. A single stream of video data is encrypted using the secret keys. A first encryption key encrypts even-numbered pixels in the single stream of video data. A second encryption key encrypts odd-numbered pixels in the single stream of video data. The stream is split into two streams of data, which are transmitted to a display. The display decrypts each of the streams of encrypted video data and merges them to re-create the original stream of video data.

  • Patent number: 7493638
Abstract: An IC card (processing terminal) divides a process into process blocks, and holds a time period required for processing each process block. A receiver (receiving terminal) notifies the IC card of a time period which can be spent for processing non-real-time process data when causing the IC card to perform the processing. The IC card processes the process blocks which can be processed within the notified time period. After the processing, the IC card once sends a response back to the receiver, and then transitions into a state in which it can receive a new request. Accordingly, it becomes possible for the IC card to process real-time process data such as an ECM. In the case where the receiver continues the suspended processing, it notifies the IC card of the continuation of the processing so that it causes the IC card to continue the processing of non-real-time process data.

Abstract: Disclosed are a conditional access transmission system and method, and a receiving terminal and method. The transmission system transmits scrambled broadcasting signals including a network identification code (NIC) in the digital broadcasting service. A repeating system repeats the broadcasting signals transmitted by the transmission system to a subscriber station. In this instance, the NIC of the repeating system is different from that of a main broadcasting network. A receiving terminal descrambles the scrambled broadcasting signals by using the NIC and a descrambling key. According to the present invention, the charged subscriber can receive broadcasting signals or TPEG messages in the repeating network.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for protecting copyrighted information, e.g., video signals, from unauthorized copying. Analog red (R), green (G) and blue (B) video signals are transmitted from a source device, e.g., a display adapter, to a display device, e.g., a monitor, over corresponding analog signal lines after the identify of the destination device is confirmed by receipt of a certificate assigned to the destination device. A session key, used for encrypting the analog signals, is generated and exchanged between the source and destination devices after the identification of the destination device is confirmed. The source and destination devices each includes a pseudo-random number generator driven by the session key. The lines that carry the R, G and B video signals are changed, e.g., swapped, on a periodic basis as a function of the output of the pseudo-random number generator in the source device.
