  • Patent number: 9613265
Abstract: A method and device for capturing a positionally corrected image of a document is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of: obtaining a two-dimensional image of the document with a mobile terminal apparatus; performing edge detection within the two-dimensional image to identify edges of the document; determining angles between detected edges; calculating, based on the detected edges and the angles determined, a three-dimensional position of the document relative to a position of the mobile terminal apparatus; calculating correction information to correct, by relative movement, the position of the document relative to the position of the mobile terminal apparatus; providing first guidance information derived from the correction information to a user of the mobile terminal apparatus, guiding the user to perform the relative movement; and capturing a positionally corrected image of the document. Thereby, the document can be captured with a quality sufficient to permit Optical Character Recognition (OCR).

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an image searching system and method for searching by using images of objects. Images of objects which it is desired to search are input via a PC-based terminal equipped with a webcam or a smart phone and then the input object images are analyzed using image recognition technology based on feature point extraction such that types of code contained in the object images are categorized and a decoder matching the object type is automatically driven such that the object is read, and thus a search function is provided which allows integrated recognition of all objects regardless of the type of object and which is convenient for the user.

  • Patent number: 9519918
Abstract: Image-based features may be significantly correlated with click-through rates of images that depict a product, which may provide a more formal basis for the informal notion that good quality images will result in better click-through rates, as compared to poor quality images. Accordingly, an image assessment machine is configured to analyze image-based features to improve click-through rates for shopping search applications (e.g., a product search engine). Moreover, the image assessment machine may rank search results based on image quality factors and may notify sellers about low quality images. This may have the effect of improving the brand value for an online shopping website and accordingly have a positive long-term impact on the online shopping website.

  • Patent number: 9367929
Abstract: Systems and methods for monitoring Web page content associated with processing a resource request are provided. A client computing device generates a sample image corresponding to a set of resources rendered in response to a resource request. A processing component, such as an image analysis component, then compares the sample image with an averaged reference image to identify a compared image. The averaged reference image is determined from averaging a pixel intensity value for each pixel in a first reference image with a pixel intensity value for each pixel in a second reference image. These first and second reference images both correspond to the same set of requested resources. The processing component then weights the compared image to produce a weighted compared image and determines whether a sum of the intensity values for each pixel in the weighted compared image exceeds a threshold. Aspects of systems and methods for generating an alert message if the threshold is exceeded are also provided.

Abstract: A method for authenticating a printed document which carries barcode that encode authentication data, including word bounding boxes for each word in the original document image and data for reconstructing the original image. The printed document is scanned to generate a target document image, which is then segmented into text words. The word bounding boxes of the original and target document images are used to align the target document image. Then, each word in the original document image is compared to corresponding words in the target document image using word difference map and Hausdorff distance between them. Symbols of the original document image are further compared to corresponding symbols in the target document image using feature comparison, symbol difference map and Hausdorff distance comparison, and point matching. These various comparison results can identify alterations in the target document with respect to the original document, which can be visualized.

Abstract: An image inspection system for inspecting an image output on a recording medium includes an image forming unit to form a threshold setting image on the recording medium; an image scanner to scan the threshold setting image to generate a scanned image; an inspection reference image generator to generate an inspection reference image using data of the an output-target image; an image inspection unit to determine a defect in the scanned image based on a difference between the inspection reference image and the scanned image; and a threshold determiner to determine a threshold to be compared with the difference between the inspection reference image and the scanned image. The image inspection unit computes the difference between the scanned image and the inspection reference image. The threshold determiner determines a threshold to be compared with the difference between the scanned image and the inspection reference image.

Abstract: An apparatus, system, method, and a non-transitory recording medium storing an image inspection control program, each of which is capable of inspecting a printed image based on comparison between a read image read from the printed image and an inspection image. As a portion of the read image is obtained, the size of the obtained portion of the read image is corrected to match the size of the inspection image, using a magnification ratio previously obtained. After matching the sizes of the read image and the inspection image, the read image is compared with the inspection image to inspect the read image.

Abstract: The technology of the present disclosure includes computer-implemented methods, computer program products, and systems to filter images before transmitting to a system for optical character recognition (“OCR”). A user computing device obtains a first image of the card from the digital scan of a physical card and analyzes features of the first image, the analysis being sufficient to determine if the first image is likely to be usable by an OCR algorithm. If the user computing device determines that the first image is likely to be usable, then the first image is transmitted to an OCR system associated with the OCR algorithm. Upon a determination that the first image is unlikely to be usable, a second image of the card from the digital scan of the physical card is analyzed. The optical character recognition system performs an optical character recognition algorithm on the filtered card.

Abstract: A method and system for allowing owners of a physical work, such as a book, to purchase an electronic version of the work by validating their ownership of the work using a personal electronic device, such as a smartphone, and marking the work. The owner is instructed to mark the work and to capture camera images of the work. The images are analyzed to identify the work, determine whether the work has been previously marked, and to verify that the work has been marked by the owner. Analysis may be performed remotely by a server in communication with the personal electronic device. Various means for authenticating ownership of the work are also disclosed, including 3D analysis, page curvature analysis, concurrent still image and video capture, detection of use of a video display to spoof the work, and geofencing.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method which reconstructs an N-pixel image of a scene such that Q pixel locations associated with identified regions of interest in a scene have a higher image quality when rendered relative to other pixels in the image. Acquisition and adaptive-quality compression are performed simultaneously by semi-synchronously or asynchronously temporally modulating an ordered set of sampling functions used to spatially modulate a pattern of light. The teachings hereof improve compression efficiency of a compressed sensing framework while improving encoding efficiency with respect to traditional compressed sensing techniques.

Abstract: Embodiments of the presently disclosed invention are directed to a document processing system and method that facilitates the processing and extraction of data from the documents. The system and method receive at least one document, where the document may contain data for extraction. The document may then be converted into a preferred document format and outputted to a user interface. The system and method may then receive a selection of at least a portion of the document, wherein the selection contains data for extraction. Based on the selection, at least one coordinate set corresponding to the selection and associated with at least one data field of interest is generated. Then the data from the selection of the document is extracted using the at least one coordinate set. Finally, a structured data set that includes the extracted data is generating, and storing in a computer memory.
