Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes a reception unit, a determination unit, a handwriting separation unit, an image generation unit, an image recognition unit, and an output unit. The reception unit receives handwriting information. The determination unit determines whether first handwriting indicated by first handwriting information and second handwriting indicated by second handwriting information overlap each other on the basis of the handwriting information. The handwriting separation unit separates the first handwriting from the second handwriting by changing a first/second handwriting position in the first/second handwriting information when the determination unit has determined that the first and second handwriting overlap each other. The image generation unit generates an image from handwriting information obtained through the separation, and information regarding handwriting that has been determined not to overlap other handwriting. The image recognition unit recognizes the generated image.

Abstract: A computer-implemented user interface method and apparatus are disclosed. A user input signal corresponding to a drawn gesture is received and sampled. If the input signal is orientation invariant, the sampled, spaced points are rotated in accordance with an indicative angle to generate an input vector. If the input signal is orientation sensitive, the sampled, spaced points are rotated to align with a base orientation to generate the input vector. The gesture is recognized based on a comparison of the input vector to a plurality of templates.

  • Patent number: 8362875
Abstract: A secure system for user authentication comprised of an authentication interface having a character dial and alignment markers is provided. A passcode input module receives user commands to move the character dial with respect to the alignment markers and to record a configuration of the characters with respect to the alignment markers, thereby creating alignment configuration data. A passcode generation module receives at least one of said alignment configuration data from passcode input module and generates a plurality of passcode hypotheses. An authentication module receives the passcode hypotheses and compares the passcode hypotheses with the passcodes of registered users stored in a data store. The passcode hypotheses are updated after each new alignment configuration data entered by the user. The authentication module authenticates a user upon finding a passcode hypothesis matching a stored passcode.

Abstract: In a pixel interpolation apparatus for interpolating pixels, an edge pixel detection unit detects edge pixels constituting an edge among pixels on lines positioned above/below the interpolation pixel. A continuous edge detection unit detects edge pixels in which two pixels or more consecutively line up among edge pixels detected by the edge pixel detection unit as a continuous edge. A continuous edge pair detection unit determines the combination of the continuous edges detected on each of the lines above and below the interpolation pixel among the continuous edges detected by the continuous edge detection unit. An edge direction determination unit determines the edge direction of the interpolation pixel on the basis of the positional relation of one set of continuous edges determined by the continuous edge pair detection unit. Abstract: The address calculating unit calculates a virtual address of a page for each pixel of a rectangular region of a predetermined size that is included in a screen. The acquiring unit acquires a physical address in correspondence with the virtual address of each pixel of the image information for which writing is requested, in accordance with a conversion table. The writing unit writes the image information for which writing is requested at the acquired physical address. The detecting unit detects an updated portion of the image information the content of which does not match before and after the writing, in units of pages. The compressing unit compresses the image information of the updated portion that is detected.

Abstract: A novel symbollogy derived from the lower-case cursive English alphabet (which is compatible with Latin alphabet derived languages), and a multi-step identification program designed to invoke the strengths of the XY Cartesian coordinate mapping system and a specific multi-step identification criteria designed to work in concert so as to allow absolute identification of each symbol. Each symbol is written onto an electronic tablet capable of identifying and distinguishing each individual symbol from a range of possible stroke patterns and then outputting or storing the symbol's assigned English alphabet counterpart. The combination of this symbollogy and recognition program allows high writing speed with the highest possible recognition potential.

  • Patent number: 8041120
Abstract: Described is a unified digital ink recognizer that recognizes various different types of digital ink data, such as handwritten character data and custom data, e.g., sketched shapes, handwritten gestures, and/or drawn pictures, without further participation by a user such as recognition mode selection or parameter input. For a custom item, the output may be a Unicode value from a private use area of Unicode. Building the unified digital ink recognizer may include defining the data set to be recognized, extracting features of training samples corresponding to the dataset items to build a recognizer model, evaluating the recognizer model using testing data, and modifying the recognizer model using tuning data. The extracted features may be processed into feature data for a multi-dimensional nearest neighbor recognizer approach; the extracted features for the samples of each class is calculated and combined into the feature set for this class in the resulting recognizer model.

Abstract: Methods, systems and user interfaces for providing feedback to a user based on recognition of character-based ink input are provided. A first feedback is provided to the user to indicate a character as which ink input by the user is recognized. The first feedback is displayed in proximity to the displayed input ink so that the user knows to which ink character the first feedback corresponds. A second feedback may optionally also be provided indicating a correctness of the recognized ink input, as compared to a predefined correct value such as a correct word game solution or answer, by displaying the input ink in one format to indicate that the recognized value is correct, and by displaying the input ink in a second format to indicate that the recognized value is incorrect.

  • Patent number: 7979795
Abstract: A practical and natural way of inputting syllables of scripts into a computer. In one example embodiment, This is achieved by selecting a base character from a set of characters using a digitizing tablet [1216]. The selected base character is then modified by drawing one or more natural handwritten modifying gestures to form a current desired syllable. An associated data of the formed current desired syllable is then inputted into a gesture-keypad-engine [1230] via the digitizing tablet [1216] upon completion of the drawing of the one or more natural handwritten modifying gestures. The gesture-keypad-engine [1230] then produces a current candidate syllable as a function of the inputted associated data of the formed current desired syllable. The produced current candidate syllable is then displayed on a display device [540].

Abstract: An image processing method has an edge intensity value calculating section (4) for calculating an edge intensity value in a neighborhood of a pixel of interest from feature values of micro regions calculated by a feature value calculating section (3); an edge intensity value correcting section (5) for correcting the edge intensity value calculated by the edge intensity value calculating section (4) in accordance with an edge intensity correction curve; and a filter value calculating section (6) for calculating a low-pass filter value of the pixel of interest from image signal values of neighboring pixels having the same color component as the pixel of interest. It corrects the image signal value of the pixel of interest by carrying out weighted addition of the image signal value of the pixel of interest and the low-pass filter value using the edge intensity values before and after the correction.
