The image processing apparatus includes a search part and an objective block synthesis part. The search part searches coded data of the source image per predetermined independently processable block for an objective block corresponding to a designated synthesis area. The objective block synthesis part synthesizes detected coded data of the objective block of the source image and coded data of the objective block of the target image.

Therefore, the first and the second pixel-data can be calculated based on motion trajectories of a current block to be interpolated and peripheral blocks, and thus, block artifacts can be prevented as the motion compensation is performed adaptively.

The text detection technique further reduces classification errors by testing for boundary dimensions and pixel density of the group characteristic of long straight lines or large borders. The text detection technique further searches the neighborhood of groups qualifying as text for pixels of the same color, so as to also detect pixels for isolated text marks like dots, accents or punctuation. The separated text and continuous-tone content can be encoded separately for efficient compression while preserving text quality, and the text again superimposed on the continuous tone content at decompression.

    Abstract: In a tandem-type full color printer, to print monochromatic image data the resolution of which is high and the processing load of which is high at high speed and at a low cost, the operation of each component is required as follows. If a monochromatic image is printed, MB images acquired by dividing the monochromatic image by an image processor are sequentially sent to the respective image compressors for YMCK. Four image compressors are operated in parallel and the compressed data of MB images is stored in an image storage. After the data of all MB images required for an output image is stored, an MB image controller operates the respective image decompressors for YMCK in parallel and sends the stored data to the image decompressors. The decompressed MB images are coupled to one image data in an image coupler and are sent to a print unit.

    Abstract: Systems and methods are provided for for encoding units of digital information such as pictures, whereby all the data is first analyzed by running a compression pass over all the data, using the in the encoder embedded rate control mechanism. Picture attributes, such as quantization scale setting and bits produced will be extracted from the resulting bitstream, and analyzing this, indiviudal unit (picture) quantization scale and bit allocation settings are prepared for a next pass for either a constant- or variable bit rate, whereby buffer boundaries are observed. In a second compression pass through the same data, a constant- or variable bit rate compressed bitstream is produced, but this time bypassing the embedded rate control mechanism, and using the prepared picture bit allocation and quantization scale settings instead. Additionally, a mechanism will supervise the total bit production accuracy.

The analysis filter bank may comprise a multiresolution filter, such as an octave band filter bank (40A/B/C/D . . . 43A/B/C/D) implementing Discrete Wavelet Transform. The modulation may comprise double-sideband, single sideband, quadrature amplitude modulation, and so on. Where the input signal is analog, the carriers may be modulated directly by the sub-band signals. Where the input signal is digital, however, the sub-band signals are interpolated, all to the same rate, and then used to modulate the carriers.

    Abstract: A method and system for compressing video data in a computer has video processing that is distributed between preprocessing hardware in a video capture/controller card and a central processing unit of the computer. Frames of video data are passed to a motion estimation unit of the preprocessing hardware. This unit generates motion information describing inter-frame changes in the video data. Next, motion-compensated temporal filtering is performed on the frames of video data using the motion information. A video frame processing unit of the controller card, used for processing video data to the monitor, is reused for the temporal filtering of the input video data. Finally, the temporally-filtered video data is passed to the central processing unit, which performs inter-frame and/or intra-frame compression with reference to the motion information.
