  • Patent number: 5549449
Abstract: A turbocharger includes a turbine and compressor housing attached by a circumferential clamp with circumferentially staggered contact points between the clamp and the housings to reduce heat transfer from the turbine housing to the compressor housing. The mass of the turbine housing is reduced and the mass of the compressor housing is increased to reduce the transfer of heat from the turbine housing to the compressor housing from the thermal flux of the turbine side heat energy. The compressor housing mass is increased by incorporating a heat-transfer interface between the compressor housing and the oil reservoir cover, which oil reservoir extends circumferentially around the axis of the turbocharger rotor shaft. Concentricity between the components of the turbocharger is achieved by creating the radial junction between the turbine and compressor backwalls on the smallest feasible diameter to minimize the effects of thermally induced distortion on component concentricity.

  • Patent number: 5520468
Abstract: A bearing is located in a bore formed in a casing for rotatably supporting a shaft extending inside the casing and a shaft seal is located between the shaft and the bearing bore and spaced from the bearing in a longitudinal direction of the shaft. An oil chamber is defined by the shaft seal and the bearing. An oil feed hole is formed in the casing for directly feeding an oil into the oil chamber from an oil source. The oil is then directed to the bearing from the oil chamber. A partition plate is placed in the oil chamber to form a gap between the shaft and itself (partition plate) for allowing part of the oil to flow to the bearing from the oil chamber through the gap and allowing the remainder of the oil to be dammned by the partition plate to form an oil pool in which the shall seal is always immersed.

  • Patent number: 5494173
Abstract: A vibrating screen apparatus capable of maintaining operation when in an out-of-level orientation is disclosed. The apparatus includes a generally rigid frame having first and second sidewalls and top and bottom screen decks extending therebetween. The frame is coupled to a stationary chassis or base by spring mount assemblies that each include an adjustable spring support system coupled to the frame and heavy coil springs which are positioned between the adjustable spring support system and the stationary base. Four rubber shear spring assemblies are also coupled between the stationary base and the sidewalls. The rubber shear spring assemblies help prevent shifting of the frame relative to the base if an out-of-level condition occurs and also help reduce lateral forces applied to the coil springs caused during out-of-level conditions. The apparatus further includes eccentric drive and driven shafts that are rotatably supported by spherical roller bearings.

  • Patent number: 5323610
Abstract: Arrangement for effective oil supply to a working chamber in a hydrodynamic coupling flushed through with oil, and lubrication of the bearings of the coupling. The working chamber is supplied with oil through a channel in the stationary part of the coupling via a main bearing forming part of the coupling and bearing the turbine in the pump wheel. A second main bearing bearing the pump wheel in the stationary part receives a continuously limited throughflow of lubricating oil via a throttle in communication with the flow of oil to the first main bearing. By means of the invention, a steady flow of oil to the working chamber of the coupling is obtained, and at the same time all the main bearings receive a continuous throughflow of lubricating oil which does not cause any great oil friction losses in the bearings during stationary running.

Abstract: Apparatus to lubricate generator bearings with an oil-air mist is disclosed. A screw pump, preferably an assembly of components comprising a ring, a teflon seal, a pump rotor and a hub is secured onto a rotor shaft of a generator for rotation therewith. The rotor shaft has at least one passageway extending radially from an axial bore therein through which oil is transferred. The screw pump has a first orifice coincident with the rotor shaft passageway, a second orifice, a passageway extending from the first orifice to the second orifice through which the oil is directed into a cavity in the generator housing where it mixes with air to form a mist to lubricate the bearing, a circumferential surface fitting within an opening in the generator housing, and a helical groove in the circumferential surface through which the oil-air mist is evacuated during rotation of the generator rotor shaft.

  • Patent number: 4941757
Abstract: A flexible arcuate one-piece reservoir member has a generally cylindrical outer surface with a flange projecting radially outwardly from that surface. The reservoir is attached to a conventional ball bearing by snapping the flange into a groove in the outer race of the bearing. Passageways extend through the reservoir member so that grease can be forced through the passageways into a cavity defined by the reservoir member and the adjacent portions of the bearing, thereby enabling grease in the bearing to ber replenished periodically.

  • Patent number: 4898480
Abstract: A sealed, rolling element bearing includes an inner race attached to a shaft, an outer race attached to a housing, a plurality of rolling elements in an annular region and a pair of shields extending inwardly from the outer race toward the inner race so as to substantially enclose the annular region. The shields have a closely-spaced, noncontacting relationship with the inner race thereby defining gaps. The elements of the bearing are of magnetically permeable material, and the sealed bearing includes means for producing a magnetic field in the gaps and in the regions where the rolling elements contact the races. A ferrofluid is retained by the magnetic field in the gaps for sealing and in the regions of contact between the rolling elements and the races for lubrication. A reservoir of ferrofluid in the regions between the two seals replenishes ferrofluid lost at the sealing and lubrication areas.

  • Patent number: 4773210
Abstract: The invention relates to an open-end rotor-spinning device with a rotor shaft which is mounted and driven in the wedge-shaped gap between supporting disks and to the free end of which is assigned an axial bearing. A simplified mounting, which also allows the supporting disks to be removed and exchanged while the machine is in operation, is provided because the rotor shaft (1) is mounted at two bearing points, of which one is formed by supporting disks (2, 3) arranged in the vicinity of the spinning rotor (10) and the second is a bearing (5) which absorbs axial and radial forces and which receives the free end (11) of the rotor shaft (1). An increase in the operating speed of the spinning rotor (10) without an increase in the running speed of the drive means (6) is achieved as a result of a reduction of the diameter of the rotor shaft (1) in the region of the drive means.
