Abstract: A vehicle wheel bearing apparatus has an outer member on its inner circumference with double row tapered outer raceway surfaces arranged so that each smaller diameter side faces toward each other. An inner member includes a wheel hub and an inner ring. The wheel hub has an integrally formed wheel mounting flange. Its outer circumference has one inner raceway surface arranged opposite to one of the double row outer raceway surfaces. A cylindrical portion axially extends from the inner raceway surface. The inner ring is fit onto the cylindrical portion of the wheel hub, via a predetermined interference. The inner ring outer circumference has another inner raceway surface arranged opposite to the other of the double row outer raceway surfaces. Double row tapered rollers are freely rollably contained between the inner and outer raceway surfaces, respectively, of the inner member and the outer member. Seals are mounted in annular openings formed between the outer member and the inner member.

Abstract: As this radial needle bearing 7c, a radial needle bearing is used which includes a cage 10b. Respective pillar portions 12, 12 which make up the cage 10b are disposed more radially inwards than a circle pitch of respective needles 8, 8. In addition, the needles 8, 8 which are adjacent to each other in a circumferential direction are caused to approach each other, so as to secure the number of such needles 8, 8. As a result, no large bending stress is applied to a tappet roller 6 without increasing the thickness of the tappet roller 6.

Abstract: The invention relates to a radial antifriction bearing which substantially consists of an outer bearing ring and of an inner bearing ring as well as of a multitude of rollers, arranged between the bearing rings and held by a bearing cage. The rollers are configured in the form of spherical disks that each have two parallel lateral surfaces which are symmetrically flattened from a basic spherical shape. The bearing cage according to the invention is characterized by having cage pockets in which the rollers are axially guided between the bearing rings via two low-friction point contacts between the center areas of their lateral surfaces and the longitudinal webs of the cage pockets. The rollers are configured to have a defined degree of freedom for tilt movements exerted at an angle to the running direction and a defined degree of freedom for self-adjustment to the pressure angle of the radial antifriction bearing.

Abstract: Rollers used on conveyors and inside the zinc-pot of a steel-sheet galvanizing line are usually driven by friction between the roller and the belt or sheet. To keep rollers from stalling, the bearing diameter is minimized. The allowable bending stress in the bearing shaft limits its length. Rollers operating in high temperature furnaces or in a hot zinc pot of a steel galvanizing line often have limited or non-existent bearing lubrication. In such cases, bearings of small diameter and limited length result in high contact pressure and short lifetime. Inside a zinc-pot, bearing life often does not exceed one week of operation. Most of these bearings are designed to have a stationary bearing housing with the roller shaft rotating inside. For small diameter rollers such shafts are an integral part of the roller. For cylindrical shell type rollers, short shafts are welded to plugs, which are then welded to each end of the roller.

Abstract: A small bearing which has the characteristics of a sliding bearing having a small coefficient of friction and of a rolling bearing, includes an outer metallic cylinder, a plastic inner cylinder, rolling elements, and a collar, with a plurality of rolling element holding grooves being provided on the outer peripheral surface of the inner cylinder. The grooves are formed in parallel with the axis of the bearing, and the rolling elements positioned therein are rotatable. Grease can be applied to the outer peripheral sur#ace of the inner cylinder, which holds the rolling elements, and the entire inner cylinder is covered with the outer cylinder, with the end portions of the outer cylinder being bent toward the axis. By forming the metal components from an austenite-type stainless steel, the problem of corrosion may be overcome.

  • Patent number: 5324119
Abstract: A needle roller bearing is directed to avoid a possibility that an inner peripheral surface of a bore in a housing may be ground or scraped by an edge defining a peripheral lip region of an opening in an outer race when a needle roller bearing is to be press-fitted into the bore in the housing and also to eliminate the need to adjust the position of a roller retainer while increasing a physical strength of the roller retainer. For this purpose, the outer race is formed with a first opening having a pair of axially spaced tabs bent so as to incline radially inwardly of the outer race from the remaining portion of the outer race. The roller retainer is in the form of a tubular member having a circumferentially continuous wall formed with a second opening at a location aligned with the first opening in the outer race. The roller retainer has a substantially intermediate portion protruding radially outwardly so as to have an outer diameter greater than that of any one of the opposite ends of the roller retainer.

  • Patent number: 5086560
Abstract: A pre-stressed radial thrust frictionless bearing device comprising an annular inner race with a certain outer radius, an annular outer race with a certain inner radius, and an array of bearings rolling between the inner and outer races. Each of the bearings has a circular cross section of a certain diameter prior to assembly. Each of the bearings is pre-stressed into an oval or elliptical cross section following assembly. The device is assembled by heating and/or cooling parts of the device to temporarily change their dimensions to permit assembly without pre-stressing, and then permitting all the parts to return to the same temperature and corresponding dimensions causing pre-stressing.

Abstract: A roller bushing assembly for use in a vehicular leaf spring suspension system pivotally supports an end of a leaf spring so as to minimize transmission of roadway induced shock and vibration loads to the vehicle and driver. The roller bushing assembly includes a tubular housing containing roller bearings for support of a shaft which is connected to a vehicle chassis. Free flexure of the spring is facilitated by providing low friction pin connections that minimize resistance of the vehicle/spring connections to rotation of the spring ends and extension and contraction of the spring.

  • Patent number: 4906112
Abstract: A large antifriction bearing, wherein one of the inner ring parts or the outer ring parts are provided with axially extending, wide toothing. At least one or both of the inner and outer ring parts is divided into cooperating parts through the axis of the bearing. Each set of axially adjacent cooperating ring parts is in turn divided into circumferential segments, and the segments are circumferentially offset. The offset axially neighboring segments of cooperating ring parts are fastened together. One of the rings has its ring parts shaped for defining a U-shape in cross-section. The other ring has its ring parts shaped for defining a projecting portion that projects between the arms of the U-shape. The rolling elements of the bearing are disposed between the insides of the arms of the U-shaped part and the projection from the other part. Preferably the ring part having the teeth is U-shaped, although the other ring part may be U-shaped.
