Abstract: A plastic part is molded of a plastic with an inner body of crystalline plastic and an outer surface layer of an amorphous plastic. The amorphous surface layer withstands friction loading at least during an initial break-in period. In one embodiment, the amorphous surface is formed by using a higher plastic melt temperature and/or a lower mold temperature than normal. In another embodiment, an intermediate part is molded as a crystalline intermediate part, and a surface layer is heated and quenched to form the amorphous surface layer on the final part. A bearing cage is molded by injecting the plastic melt at a single point intermediate the ends of a single bar of the bearing cage to permit formation of the desired amorphous layer on rails connected to the ends of the bars.

Abstract: A cage for use in a roller bearing, which is made of metal, comprises thin portions formed axially centrally of the cage, thick portions formed at opposite sides of the thin portions, a plurality of pockets in which the rollers are received formed extending axially and spaced apart from one another circumferentially, and rugged portion including recessed portions formed in the outer peripheral surface of the at opposite sides of the pockets, and raised portions formed between two adjacent recessed portions and each having a cylindrical surface with a constant radius of curvature.
Abstract: A belt-driven water pump for use with an internal combustion engine includes a pump shaft, a housing lid having an opening through which one end of the pump shaft extends, a bearing, a pump shaft seal, a pump rotor, and a pulley integrally formed with the pump shaft. The pump shaft and the pulley are made in one piece, preferably, of plastic.
Abstract: The invention concerns a roller bearing equipped with rollers held between an inner and an outer race of the bearing and kept separate from one another by a bearing cage which is formed by an annular component consisting of one or more parts in which, along the circumference and at equal distances from one another, partially or fully enclosed openings have been formed which each contain a roller.

Abstract: An anti-friction bearing, particularly for large cylindrical roller bearings where the bearing includes an outer ring, an inner ring, cylindrical roller bearing elements between the rings and an annular cage for holding the bearing elements between the rings. The cage comprises a plurality of cage segments, each holding a cylindrical roller bearing. Each segment has a pair of resilient radially inwardly extending noses at both sides thereof and these noses are received in grooves in the inner ring. The axially outer side parts of each segment extend radially to the outer ring and are curved there more sharply than the curvature of the outer ring. The outer side parts also extend to the inner ring and rest there on rounded projections.
