Cage Structure Patents (Class 384/623)
  • Publication number: 20010017955
Abstract: A thrust bearing includes an annular first retainer, an annular second retainer and a plurality of rollers. The first retainer and second retainer are secured together to form a bearing cage. Each retainer has a circular outer sidewall, a concentric circular inner sidewall, and a web that extends between the outer sidewall and the inner sidewall. The web has a planar interior surface with a plurality of openings each adapted to accommodate a radiused portion of one of the rollers. The use of a web with a planar interior surface, without dividers, provides two advantages. The design leaves a maximum amount of room for rollers in the bearing which increases the bearing's capacity. The assembled cage allows for better lubricant flow to lubricate the bearing and wash is potentially abrasive particles away from the rollers.

  • Patent number: 5897453
Abstract: The present invention provides a differential gear capable of constantly ensuring a stable differential motion restricting force even in the case of a low rotational speed. In the present invention, when there occurs a difference in rotational speed between output side rotary elements, rollers are allowed to roll while being in contact with the confronting faces of the input side and output side rotary elements. The rollers move along rotational trajectories of the output side rotary elements while being restricted by a holder element from rolling toward the direction inclined by a predetermined angle relative to the rotational trajectories of the output side rotary elements.

  • Patent number: 5630668
Abstract: A rolling bearing includes an outer raceway, an inner raceway, a plurality of rolling elements interposed between the outer raceway and the inner raceway, and a cage for holding the rolling elements away from each other at the same interval in a rolling direction of the rolling elements, the cage including a first layer subjected to a surface treatment of at least one of carbonitriding, phosphating, sulfonitriding and gas soft nitfriding, and a second layer formed of at least one of PTFE, MoS.sub.2, WS.sub.2, Ag and Sn when the first layer includes a treated surface subjected to the surface treatment of phosphating. The rolling bearing can stabilize the attitude of the rolling elements and retain the ease of grinding them. At the same time, the dynamic torque of the rolling elements can be minimized while insuring to prevent the rolling elements from falling away from the cage.

  • Patent number: 5630670
Abstract: An axial rolling bearing includes a cage having pockets for retaining rolling elements between two plane-parallel bearing disks for forming a structural unit through interlocking engagement. At least one bearing disk exhibits a peripheral edge which is turned in to form an axial collar which surrounds the cage with clearance and extends towards a radial plane of the other bearing disk to form at least one annular gap. The cage is provided in an area of the annular gap with through-bores which are radially spaced from the pockets and are defined by a diameter, with the annular gap having a radial dimension which is equal or greater than the diameter of the through-bores.

  • Patent number: 5474390
Abstract: A thrust washer has a radially directed annular portion providing a first raceway and an axially directed annular flange. A subassembly comprising a plurality of rollers, in rolling contact with the raceway, retained axially and radially in a roller cage, has a pilot surface facing the axially directed annular flange. A bushing or rolling element between the pilot surface and the axially directed annular flange reduces friction between the pilot surface and the flange while maintaining concentricity of the subassembly relative to the thrust washer.

  • Patent number: 5269609
Abstract: A pin type retainer for roller bearings is stamped in one piece from flat metal stock. The flat metal is first drawn into a cup shape having a broad flange around an open first end and a closed second end. The closed end provides solid support and alignment while stamping pins from the broad flange. The pins are then final shaped by swaging or machining into cross sectional forms for a variety of applications. The second end is then opened to form a ring. The pin type retainer can be modified for use with a retaining ring or a seal against contaminants. The pin type retainer can be formed from a variety of materials, including steel. An embodiment using plastic resin is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 5205657
Abstract: A roller circle for hoisting and excavating equipment has upper and lower spaced annular rails. A plurality of tapered rollers are disposed between the rails in rolling contact with bearing surfaces of the rails. Each of the rollers is mounted on a shaft. Inner and outer cages connect the projecting ends of the shafts and are joined together by through rods. A portion of the inner cage overlies a side face of a rail and a pad is disposed between the inner cage portion and the side of the rail. A second pad is disposed between the outer cage and the larger ends of the rollers. Thrust loads are transferred from the rollers to the outer cage and through the rods to the inner cage and then to the rail.

  • Patent number: 5110223
Abstract: The present invention comprises a spacer, especialy a spacer for use with a thrust roller bearing assembly. An internal radial lip projecting into the central aperture of the spacer provides for frictional retention on a shaft passing therethrough. Where the thrust bearing and spacer combination is to be installed in a bore, one or more external radial lips may be included to frictionally retain the spacer within the bore. The spacer element is adapted for coupling to one of the bearing elements. In one embodiment, the bearing and spacer may be bonded together. In another embodiment, the spacer and bearing are joined by mutually engageable circumferential locking surfaces. The spacer is selected from a plurality of spacers of differing axial dimension, each spacer being color coded according to its axial dimension.

  • Patent number: 4995755
Abstract: A ball joint includes a pair of generally hemispheric head members including facing surfaces. A bearing member is disposed between the facing surfaces. One of the head members is connected to a ball stud, the other includes a shank hole through which the ball stud passes. Both head members are enclosed in a ball seat which is deformed into conformity with a generally spherical outer surface of the combined first and second head members by a socket that is formed about them. An elastic member between the socket and the ball seat applies an axial force to said first and second head members, whereby a substantial preload on the ball joint permits take-up of wear during use.

  • Patent number: 4953993
Abstract: A comb-caged thrust bearing in which a circular-shaped ring or circular-shaped segments are provided for an axial two-row roller race that carries rollers in a large centrally-open roller bearing. The ring or segments form a web with radially oppositely-lying comb stages for holding and guiding the rollers. These comb stages of the web enclose the rollers along three sides of the rollers. Two of those enclosed sides are along oppositely-lying axial lines on the periphery of the rollers. The third enclosed side corresponds to one end of the roller and along a diameter thereof. This diameter has ends connected to the oppositely-lying axial lines on the periphery of the rollers. The other end of the rollers is left free and is not enclosed by the comb stages.

  • Patent number: 4583793
Abstract: Each individual roller member is seated in its own cage element which freely abuts only equivalent or similar type neighboring cage elements. Each roller member can only protrude from the cage element with its rolling surface which prevents damage to the recirculating raceway while ensuring a proper rolling motion of the roller members upon the bearing raceway. The end faces of the cage elements contribute to this effect, too, and can also ensure a proper mutual support of the cage elements in all situations. In addition to a reduction of friction, both an increase of longevity and a damping effect can also be achieved.
