Publication number: 20080056707Abstract: A solid state imaging device includes an array of active pixels and an infrared cut filter formed over the sensor. Optionally, a slot in the infrared cut filter allows infrared illumination to reach the sensor to be detected by pixels covered by a visually opaque filter and surrounded by pixels of special types that limit charge leakage and enable high dynamic range sensing of infrared illumination. A ratio of average infrared signal to average brightness indicates an amount of infrared illumination reaching the imaging device.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 31, 2006Publication date: March 6, 2008Inventors: Ilia Ovsiannikov, Xuemei Zhang, Dmitri Jerdev

Patent number: 6819868Abstract: A camera is provided that includes a camera housing and a TFT panel, which permits verification of a formed image, located on the back of the camera housing. A strobe unit and an electronic viewfinder unit are located in the upper part of the camera housing. The electronic viewfinder unit has a unit body including: a TFT panel permitting viewing of an object image; an eyepiece opposed to the back of the camera housing and used to view the object image displayed on the TFT panel; and a prism serving as an optical path conversion member that bends by a predetermined angle light emitted from an object image displayed on the TFT panel so as to route the light to the eyepiece, and adjoining the TFT panel and the eyepiece.Type: GrantFiled: December 3, 2002Date of Patent: November 16, 2004Assignee: Olympus Optical Co., Ltd.Inventors: Hideaki Kume, Giichi Kaneta

Patent number: 6724991Abstract: A camera has a body and a taking lens mounted to the body. The taking lens defines a subject field. A viewing window is joined to the body. The viewing window is transmissive of a light image of the subject field. The viewing window bears a holographic image of a reticle. A light source faces the viewing window and illuminates the holographic image. The reticle produced can be binocularly viewable, that is, viewable by the photographer with both eyes while the photographer looks through the viewing window to compose a scene image for picture taking.Type: GrantFiled: February 13, 2003Date of Patent: April 20, 2004Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: Scott B. Patent number: 6553186Abstract: A viewfinder informs the photographer when a camera is tilted relative to a subject to be photographed. The viewfinder includes a pair of front and rear openings optically aligned to view the subject through the two openings, and a translucent element surrounding the front opening to permit a halo of light around the front opening which can be seen through the rear opening. The rear opening is dimensioned sufficiently smaller than the front opening to prevent one from viewing through the rear opening various portions of the halo of light depending on whether the camera is tilted up, down, right or left. Thus, one is alerted when the camera is tilted relative to the subject.Type: GrantFiled: June 18, 2002Date of Patent: April 22, 2003Assignee: Eastman Kodak CompanyInventor: David J. Cornell

Patent number: 6408138Abstract: The camera view-correction apparatus comprises at least one dividing plate located in the view finder so as to divide the view finder into several regions. Each region has a light source at the far end, so that when all the light sources are successfully observed without being shielded by the dividing plate, it indicates that the optical axis of the view finder is matched with the optical axis of the lens. Alternatively, the camera view-correction apparatus has a plurality of plates located in the view finder. The plates enclose a tunnel free space with a cross shape for the cross-sectional view. Light can pass the tunnel free space and reach the eyes. If the optical axis of the view finder is tilted, some portion of the light is shielded by the plates with respect to the tilted direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 24, 2000Date of Patent: June 18, 2002Assignee: Umax Data Systems, Inc.Inventors: Guang-Shang Chang, Chien-Chin Chan, Chien-Ming Peng

Patent number: 6122455Abstract: A viewfinder, particularly useful in a camera, is lensless but which provides a useful reticle to aid the user to properly frame the desired scene. A camera body includes a viewfinder front wall opening. Surrounding the front wall opening, on its interior surface is a concave mirror with its focus on a reticle. The reticle on an internal surface of the camera body is located at the interior face of the eyepiece opening region of the viewfinder. Incoming light at the front opening illuminates the reticle and its image is reflected by the concave mirror surface to the user's eye. In one embodiment, the front opening of the camera is a single opening larger than the rear or eyepiece opening, and in another embodiment, the front opening constitutes a series of small holes in the front wall of the camera with the surface between the holes reflectorized and acting as the concave mirror.Type: GrantFiled: October 8, 1998Date of Patent: September 19, 2000Inventor: Stephen P.
