  • Patent number: 8010035
Abstract: An image forming apparatus includes a sheet-feeder for feeding a recording sheet from a sheet cassette. Image forming devices are provided for forming a toner image. An image bearer bears a toner image formed by the image forming devices; and a transferring device transfers the toner image on the image bearer to a recording sheet. A sheet amount detector detects the amount of recording sheets in the cassette. A mode controller allows the image forming devices to start their operations before the sheet feeding section conveys a recording sheet when the amount of recording sheets detected by the sheet amount detector exceeds a predetermined reference amount, and allows the image forming devices to start their operations after the sheet-feeding section conveys the recording sheet when the amount of recording sheets detected by the sheet amount detector is smaller than the reference amount.

  • Patent number: 7988145
Abstract: A hold-down device is disclosed for holding down the leading edges of sheet materials, such as multiple-ply sheets or integrated forms, disposed in a tray of a printer in a horizontal or flat position prior to feeding the leading edge of the top sheet or integrated form into the printer feed mechanism. Because some sheet materials are prone to curling, which causes jamming in the feed mechanism or downstream in printing path within commonly used printers, the disclosed hold-down device maintains the leading edge of the top sheet in a flat or horizontal position so it can be reliably and evenly received in the feeder mechanism of the printer, thereby reducing the chances of jamming when sheet materials that are prone to curling, such as multiple-ply sheets or integrated forms, are being printed. The hold-down device includes a base with two ends. Each end may include a retainer or other means for detachably connecting the base to the paper tray of the printer.

Abstract: The present application is directed to image forming devices with option trays to introduce media into a media path. One embodiment include the image forming device having a body with a front, back, top, and bottom sides. The sides may form an interior space to contain an imaging unit. The imaging unit may include elements for producing toner images. A media path may extend in a substantially vertical orientation within the interior space. An integrated tray may be positioned at the bottom side of the body and include a first input tray and a manual feed inlet on the front side of the body. Each of first input tray and manual feed inlet form sections of the media path. An option tray may be operatively connected to the bottom side of the body, and may include a second input tray and a multi-purpose feeder. The option tray further lengthens the media path and provides additional avenues to introduce media sheets into the media path.

Abstract: In an automatic document feeder (ADF) paper feed tray, in a state where a sheet is placed, a center portion of the sheet in the width direction is supported by a first support portion, an outside portion of the sheet in the width direction is supported by a second support portion, and both side portions of the sheet in the width direction hang down substantially uniformly. By this arrangement, the ADF paper feed tray can be made small. As a result, in the case where the sheet is discharged below the ADF paper feed tray, the confirmation of the discharged sheet can be facilitated.

  • Patent number: 7600749
Abstract: A paper feeding device includes a guide member that guides both sides of a sheet of paper stacked in a paper feeding cassette and a support unit that prevents the guide members from being moved due to inertia of sheets of paper during installation of the paper feeding cassette. Accordingly, the paper feeding device contacts and supports one side of the guide unit and prevents the guide unit from being moved. Therefore, a sheet of paper may prevented from being separated from a finger during installation of the paper feeding cassette. Furthermore, a paper jam or skew due to the separation of the paper may be prevented.
