  • Patent number: 6347415
Abstract: A toilet seat and lid, each comprising a rigid insert injection molded of thermoplastic material. Each insert is then over-molded by injection molding with a thermoplastic elastomeric material which provides the outer surface of the seat and lid. The inserts are dimensioned with respect to their over-molded surfaces to be smaller than the finished seat and lid and are designed to give maximum strength to the seat and lid. Each insert is shaped to promote the flow of the over-mold material and to minimize shrinking, swelling or distortion of the insert. The elastomeric material is preferably chemically compatible with the inserts to allow a chemical as well as a mechanical bond to take place. The over-molded material provides the desired soft, non-slip, warm to the touch outer characteristics of the seat and lid.

  • Patent number: 6243884
Abstract: A toilet seat assembly comprising a seat for permitting a user to sit over a toilet bowl of a toilet apparatus and a hinge pivotally attaching the seat to the toilet apparatus so that the user can manually pivot the seat relative to the toilet bowl between a vertical-upright position and a horizontal-down position. The hinge has a lock which automatically engages when the seat is manually pivoted into the vertical-upright position to prevent the seat from inadvertently pivoting back to the horizontal-down position. The toilet seat assembly can be further provided with a lid for selectively covering the toilet seat. The hinge lock can be adapted to automatically engage when the lid is manually pivoted into the vertical-upright position to prevent the lid from inadvertently pivoting back to the horizontal-down position.

  • Patent number: 6233753
Abstract: A commode is disclosed having a specially configured bolts to secure the commode seat to the frame of the commode. The bolts are affixed to a back bar of the commode frame and have a straight portion adapted to be secured to the back bar and an angled portion to be secured pivotally to the rear of the commode seat. The straight portion and the angled portion are formed together with an intermediate arcuate portion to form an acute angle with respect to each other. In the assembled commode, the straight portion of the bolts extends horizontally rearwardly from the back bar so as to avoid damage to a household toilet when the commode is positioned atop the toilet. In addition, by the special configuration, the rear of the commode seat is positioned vertical directly above the back bar to prevent the commode seat from falling any appreciable distance downwardly in the event of a failure of one or both of the special bolts.

  • Patent number: 6012886
Abstract: A toilet seat attachment structure is used for attaching a toilet seat unit on a toilet bowl. The structure includes a bolt with an axis portion, an abutting member disposed around the axis portion, an expanding member situated adjacent to the abutting member, and a nut member situated adjacent to the expanding member and engaging the axis portion. The abutting member has a shaft portion with a through-hole, and a flange formed on an upper periphery of the shaft portion. The axis portion passes through the abutting member and the expanding member, and engages the nut member. A friction member is disposed outside the expanding member. When the bolt is rotated, the nut member ascends on the axis portion, so that the expanding member gradually expands the diameter. Accordingly, the frictional member is enlarged to frictionally engage with an attachment hole of a toilet bowl.

  • Patent number: 4839929
Abstract: An auxiliary toilet seat has a bench type seat supported by two vertical legs. Horizontal mounting flanges on the lower ends of each vertical leg are utilized to permanently attach the auxiliary toilet seat in front of a conventional toilet in a public rest room. The bench type seat is connected by a hinge to a top end of one of the vertical legs. The bench seat may be swung between open and closed positions, to provide access to the toilet. In use, an individual sits on the auxiliary bench seat while utilizing the toilet. This provides protection against acquiring communicable diseases while utilizing conventional public toilet seats. In a second embodiment of the present invention, the vertical legs provide a cantilever support for attachment to existing toilet mounting bolts. This construction does not require the drilling of any additional holes in the floor of the public rest room.

Abstract: A spring hinge for raising a toilet seat and having an adjustable spring force. First and second hinge members with hinge knuckles that interfit closely end-to-end are attachable respectively to the toilet bowl and the seat. A rod extends through the knuckles and is slidably received in end caps on the hinge members at opposite ends. A first coupling member on the rod presents a series of teeth extending circumferentially around the rod and facing toward the end cap on the second hinge member. A second coupling member on the inside of the second hinge member's end cap has similar teeth which engage the teeth of the first coupling member. A coil spring encircles the rod inside the hinge knuckles and is fastened at one end to the end cap of the first hinge member and at the opposite end to the first coupling member to normally hold the first coupling member in toothed engagement with the second coupling member.

Abstract: It is an automatically lifting devise for toilet seat; the device mainly comprises a sleeve shaft, a sleeve, a main shaft, a torsional spring, and a torsion adjusting assembly. The aforesaid torsion adjusting assembly further includes a displacement shaft, a shaft seat, a worm gear and a worm. The feature of the aforesaid lifting device is that when the lid being lifted up, the toilet seat will be lifted upwards automatically and slowly because of the torsion of the torsional spring is higher than the gravity of the toilet seat, and because of a grease of high viscosity being coated on the surface between the sleeve shaft and the sleeve; moreover, the object of the torsion adjusting assembly is to adjust the torsion of the torsional spring after a long period of use so as to maintain the automatically lifting device to have a normal torsional spring and operation.

Each of a pair of hinge receiving elements are mounted to the toilet covering and has a bore which is alignable with one of the hinge post elements along the hinge axis. The hinge post elements have lugs axially spaced apart from stops and the bores in the hinge receiving elements are key-hole shaped to permit a key and slot type connection between the hinge post elements and the hinge receiving elements. The toiet covering member is captured on the toilet by axially inserting the hinge post elements into the corresponding bores and rotating the hinge post elements relative to the hinge receiving elements about the hinge axis to lock the elements together.

  • Patent number: 4589148
Abstract: A toilet hinge for hingedly mounting a seat and/or cover on a toilet bowl comprises a hinge part which includes resiliently yieldable fingers for cooperative engagement with the hinge pin. The hinge part contains a circular aperture having a circumferential extent greater than 180.degree. but less than 360.degree., with the resiliently yieldable fingers extending from the aperture at a circumferential opening in the aperture. The resiliently yieldable fingers define a throat within which the hinge pin is received in response to downward loading applied to the seat and/or cover. The resilient yielding of the fingers allows the seat and/or cover to assume full support on the bowl rim so that the undesired stress levels in the parts, including the hinges, are avoided. When the downward load is removed, the resiliently yieldable fingers urge the hinge pin back into the aperture, thereby slightly elevating the rear of the seat and/or cover.
