Abstract: A bed apparatus with an urinal comprises a bed frame placed with a cushion unit thereon, a cover pivotally provided at an opening formed at the cushion unit, a urinal slidably held along the longitudinal direction of the bed frame and mounted with a guide frame along the sliding direction thereof, and a shielding unit pivotally provided to be urged in a upright direction at the top end of the urinal and normally held in horizontal state underneath the cushion unit.

Abstract: A self-inflating bedpan having means for readily, manually inflating the bedpan after it is positioned beneath a patient.

Abstract: An injection-molded nestable bedpan having a cavity defining a receptacle formed by a bottom wall and a tapered upright wall, and a seat formed at the upper edge of said upright wall. The tapered upright wall includes opposed sidewall segments and opposed end wall segments with one of the tapered end wall segments defining an undercut to inhibit splashback and spillage.

Abstract: A bedside commode carried on a mobile frame including a ramp for bridging the space between the bed and the commode, and a peripheral railing mounted to extend above the commode platform for providing a protective barrier as well as a gripping bar for the patient. A front railing with a raised lateral portion is mounted in a fixed position on the forward edge of the commode platform. At least one side railing is manually movable from an upright locked position to an unlocked lower position below the upper surface of the commode platform, and the preferred embodiment also includes a rigidly mounted side railing opposite the manually movable side railing.

Abstract: A urinal having a semi-rigid housing is useable by either a male or a female to receive urine discharged by a person whether in a seated or in a supine position. A cappable opening to the collector includes a spout configured to receivingly support a penis when used by a male and the combination of the spout and opening is configured to develop a seal extending from the vaginal opening to a point above the urethra to prevent urine seepage when used by a female. Opposed sides of the collector are concave to mate with the curvature of the user's thighs and help maintain the urinal in place during use. A specially configured handle at the upper rear end of the housing aids in manipulating the urinal into and out of position of use and in minimizing the danger of inadvertent tipping.

Abstract: A mattress includes a recess for receivably seating a single-use receptacle having a screened opening for receiving fluids and wastes from the body of a bed patient. The sheet wrapping the mattress has an opening in registry with the receptacle opening. The receptacle, when filled with fluids, is removable by sliding the same through a slot in the mattress which extends from the mattress recess to one side thereof thereby avoiding the necessity of moving the patient. A fresh receptacle is similarly inserted into the mattress.

Abstract: A bedpan guard adapted to lie across a portion of the bedpan opening and to be removably attached to the bedpan whereby the male patient's genitalia is supported by the guard and prevented from contacting waste material in the pan and contacting the bottom of the pan. The guard may have a cover attached thereto which can be pulled over the bedpan opening after use.

Abstract: The sickbed hammock which can be raised to a desired height above the mattress includes a cutout to the periphery and underneath of which a removable sanitary bowl is attached by fastening means or Velcro-strips. The bed is provided also with a timed swivel for causing a turning of the hammock within safe limits.
