  • Patent number: 6367180
Abstract: An illuminated sign, readable during the night or day, and suitable for use as a house number display, uses a single illuminatable panel, on which a number of stencils are plac critical flicker frequency ed. Each stencil is a rectangular piece of opaque material, such as plastic or metal, in which a central cutout is made in the shape of a number. Several of these stencils are arrayed in front of the illuminatable panel, so that only the light coming through the central cutouts is visible through the stencils. The illuminatable panel is made of an array of LED's, with a diffuser to produce a uniform illumination, and is powered by one or more batteries. A light detector senses the onset of dusk, which activates the illuminatable panel, turning it on, and leaving it on for four or more hours. A constant-current electronic system powers the LEDs, which are pulsed on and off at a speed greater than 90 Hz, which makes the sign appear to the human eye as constantly illuminated.

Abstract: Currently at airports, cruise ship terminals and the like disembarking travellers are met by travel personnel such as travel agents, taxi drivers etc. who have been hired to transport a particular traveller to a destination but do not personally know their target traveller and so display a hand-written sheet or sign with the traveller's name written thereon so that the target traveller will see his/her name and identify himself/herself to the travel personnel. Such greeting signs are often difficult to read due to poor lighting and are unprofessional looking. The present invention provides an illuminated greeting sign on which the greeting message can be easily changed, in particular by using a translucent back-lit panel, illuminated by a battery-powered light, on which erasable marker messages may be written.

  • Patent number: 5665938
Abstract: An outdoor enclosure for housing electronic display equipment constructed of a plurality of extrusions welded to side plates and top and bottom plates which allows easy access to the electronics through a tethered bottom door. The enclosure can house one or more electronic display faces. The front and rear surfaces can be glass, polycarbonate or metal and are held in place by an elastic cord. The enclosure is sealed on the ends by the use of gasketing between the main housing body and the end panels. The design of the enclosure discourages birds from roosting on the front and rear edges. Internally the enclosure provides for the electronics to be mounted on an easily removable plate which incorporates a unique continuous hook. The electronic sub-assembly plate is held in place by a simple elastic hose retainer. Installation and removal of the electronics sub-assembly requires no tools.
