Patent number: 6375604Abstract: Tab material which is wrapped tightly around an edge of a sheet is adhered flat to both faces of the sheet. The sheet is passed through a printer, and indicia is printed on both sides of a tab material fold line on at least a portion of the tab material on one of the faces. Then, the tab material portion is released from that face, folded onto itself on the fold line, and the end of that portion is re-adhered to that face but closer to the sheet edge. Thereby, the folded tab material portion extends out from the edge and has indicia printed on both sides thereof to define a tab. Pursuant to one embodiment, a series of these tab material portions line that face along the edge, separated from one another by die cut lines. The user can then select the portion to be released from the face, folded onto itself and its end attached to the face to define an outwardly extending tab at the desired place anywhere along the edge.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 1999Date of Patent: April 23, 2002Assignee: Avery Dennison CorporationInventor: Rick J. Patent number: 6332285Abstract: A plastic tab for indexing or marking a folder or an edge portion of an article such as an organizer or storage system. The lower portion of the tab has two downwardly extending walls, between which an edge of the folder or other article may be placed. The downwardly extending walls are configured and adapted to create an interference fit when the folder or other article is inserted between the walls of the tab. The interference fit enables the tab to remain securely in the desired position along the edge portion. The tab is made of a flexible polymeric material so that it may be mounted, re-positioned or removed easily. Removal of the tab from a wall edge causes the walls to flex apart and thereby eliminate or minimize the interference fit between the tab lower walls and the article on which the tab is mounted. Removal of the tab is therefore a smooth and simple operation that minimizes breakage of the tab or damage to the folder, organizer or storage medium.Type: GrantFiled: June 29, 1999Date of Patent: December 25, 2001Assignee: Esselte CorporationInventors: Eric R. Patent number: 6099189Abstract: An index divider sheet assembly adapted for feeding into ink jet printers and the like for a printing operation on the sheet body and/or the index tab of the assembly. The assembly includes a divider sheet having a tab extending out of one edge and a reinforced binding edge flap. The divider sheet can be manufactured from ink jet receptive top-coated white cardstock. A guide strip along the tab edge assists the assembly being fed and passing through the printer despite the presence of the tab. The binding edge flap is folded over onto the body of the sheet and held thereon to reduce the width dimension of the assembly so that it can be fed into and passed through the printer. After passing through the printer, the guide strip is removed and the flap is unfolded. To improve feed of the assembly from a printer feed tray having corner guides, the flap is manufactured to have notches cut out of both ends thereof to define thin legs along the flap fold line and at both corner ends of the flap.Type: GrantFiled: May 12, 1999Date of Patent: August 8, 2000Assignee: Avery Dennison CorporationInventors: Sonia Owen, Galen C. Patent number: 5996130Abstract: Tab material which is wrapped tightly around an edge of a sheet is adhered flat to both faces of the sheet. The user can then select the portion to be released from the face, folded onto itself and its end attached to the face to define an outwardly extending tab at the desired place anywhere along the edge.Type: GrantFiled: October 29, 1997Date of Patent: December 7, 1999Assignee: Avery Dennison CorporationInventor: Rick J. Patent number: 5972454Abstract: Disclosed is a composite note pad assembly which comprises two independent stacks of individual sheets, sandwiched together, wherein the resulting composite pad assembly has a fall writing surface on both the top and the bottom of the assembly. In this manner, unlike conventional pads, there is no bottom of the stack, and there is no exposed glue surface which would otherwise interfere with writing or marking the paper, or which would get covered with office dirt and grime. The two-part composite pad assembly is unique, because it has two exposed writing surfaces at all times. In a preferred embodiment, the papers used to make the two segments of the composite pad assembly are different, e.g., different color, different appearance, etc., allowing the user the option of having two choices of "note" from a single pad assembly.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1997Date of Patent: October 26, 1999Inventor: Fei-Chen (or Victor) Lee

Patent number: RE36596Abstract: A filing system is provided for locating a particular file contained in a file holder which contains a plurality of files. The apparatus includes a machine-readable code mounted on each of the files, a guide attached to each file holder, a scanner for reading the codes on the files in a file holder, and an indicator for indicating when the particular machine-readable code corresponding to the particular file is located. The apparatus uses an improved bar code in which character boundaries are eliminated and the number of ONE's and ZERO's in a code are variable, resulting in increased data density. The unique numeric values which result from the improved bar code sparsely populate the possible range of values, and therefore a mapping algorithm is provided to map the bar code values to a sequential numeric system for ease of use.Type: GrantFiled: June 20, 1997Date of Patent: March 7, 2000Assignee: Wild File, Inc.Inventor: Eric D.
