Abstract: A composite structural member is provided. The structural member includes a tubular shaft having a mating region of stiffness, and possibly thickness, greater than another region of said shaft. The shaft defines a lumen, and a fitting is disposed in the lumen. The fitting has a coupling region that defines at least one recessed portion bounded by one or more non-recessed portions, and the mating region mates with the coupling region of said fitting. As such, the shaft and fitting are mechanically restrained from at least some relative movement due to interference of the shaft and the fitting. A sleeve may be coupled to said shaft, for example, by including a tubular inner surface that proximately surrounds at least part of said shaft and mating region, for discouraging expansion of the mating region of said shaft.

  • Patent number: 6789977
Abstract: A connector and connection system useful in the building and construction industries for joining two substantially planar composite fiber panels together in which at least a part of the connecting device also acts as a guiding means allowing the two panels to be joined together in alignment with one another. The connector and connection system is especially useful for joining a plurality of compressed straw building panels to form a straight wall, partition or similar structure in substantially the same plane, said structure being constructed without having any external fittings or without having to mask or otherwise hide any fasteners, fittings or the like across the joint between the panels.

Abstract: A tube combination has upper and lower tubes, which are joined together with a coupling, and which have spaced annular trenches on outer sides. Annular projections are formed on the upper end of the lower tube and the lower end of the upper tube; the annular projections are pressed against each other when the tubes are joined together, and are shaped such that they together are in the shape of the annular trenches when the tubes are joined together, making the tube combination look like one having a single tube part.

  • Patent number: 6752560
Abstract: A submersible pump assembly having first and second components that are coupled together has a removable externally splined sleeve. A key is located in the keyway between the shaft sleeve and the shaft for transmitting torque. A threaded fastener secures to a threaded hole extending inward from an end face of the shaft end coaxial with an axis of the shaft end. The fastener has a head that engages an outward facing shoulder of the shaft sleeve to releasably secure the shaft sleeve to the shaft. A coupling sleeve has internal splines that engage the external splined section of the shaft sleeve. The coupling sleeve is in engagement with a shaft end assembly of the second component for transmitting torque between the shafts of the first and second components. The head that of the fastener transmits axial loads between the shafts of the first and second components.

Abstract: A coupling for torque transmitting devices is disclosed. The coupling employs polygonally shaped first and second ends having retaining balls held within each of the corners of the polygon. Pin cones are provided in each of the first and second ends. Actuation of a set screw or the like causes each of the pin cones to push the retaining balls radially outwardly in a simultaneous fashion thereby engaging a first and second members to be coupled.

  • Patent number: 6745538
Abstract: The present invention relates to a mounting structure which is arranged at two abutting structural panels (1, 2) so that said structural panels are connected with each other, comprising two pairs of clamping plates, with one of said pairs of clamping plates being fixed to one structural panel (1), and the other pair of clamping plates being fixed to the other structural panel (2). The two pairs of clamping plates abut against each other with one of their clamping plates (3, 4), and the two abutting clamping plates (3, 4) are provided with mutually aligned, undercut longitudinal slots (5) which receive a connecting plate (6) connecting the abutting two clamping plates (3, 4) with each other, and being fixed to the two clamping plates (3, 4) by means of fasteners (7) which extend through said connecting plate (6). Thus, a mounting structure is provided whose manufacture is relatively easy and cost-efficient.

Abstract: A method of joining a first sheet-metal member to a second sheet-metal member in a right-angle relationship using an H-shaped interlocking member. An opening is provided near an edge of the second sheet metal member with a channel communicating the opening and the edge. The opening is sufficiently wide to allow the H-shaped member to be rotated therein so as to allow the upper and lower slots of the H-shaped member to engage with the second sheet-metal member. A tapped hole is provided in the center section of the H-shaped member, aligned with the channel, so as to allow a screw to be inserted through a hole on the first sheet-metal member and then the channel to engage with the tapped hole. After the screw is tightened, the surface of the first sheet metal member is securely joined to the edge of the second sheet metal member.
