  • Patent number: 5586832
Abstract: An attachment for mounting on a rod or shaft when an end of the rod is not free, in the form of a split collar, pulley or gear, is in two parts having half-cylinder inner portions. The parts may be mounted on diametrally opposed sides of a rod or shaft when axially displaced from one another. Each part has a pair of interlocking elements. Each of the pair of interlocking elements of the first part interdigitates and thereby interlocks with one of the interlocking elements of the other part when the two parts are moved together axially to form a completely encircling attachment on the rod which resists radial dismemberment. A threaded passage extends radially through at least one of the parts to receive a long threaded fastener such as a thumbscrew to fixedly engage the rod. The attachment may be readily and rapidly mounted, locked and removed by an unskilled user without the use of any tools.

  • Patent number: 5503493
Abstract: Synthetic resin structural members are inserted into a hollow joint member to abut each other in the joint member. A bearing-pressure damping member is fitted into each of bolt holes on the members, axes of bolts extend alternately in two mutually perpendicular directions. The structural members and the hollow joint member are secured with bolts and nuts. Due to damping action resulting from elastic deformations of the damping members, a load is substantially evenly distributed over the whole bolts to prevent concentration of the load to some of the bolts. The arrangement of the bolts with their axes extending alternately in two mutually perpendicular directions will shorten the length of the joint member.

  • Patent number: 5408900
Abstract: A bicycle handle consists of a horizontal bar-binding cylinder provided on a handle stem, a pair of handle bars fixed in both ends of the bar-binding cylinder and one or two pressure cylinders holding the handle bars. A through hole perforated in the pressure cylinder inclines from an axis of the bar-binding cylinder. Each handle bar has a handle grip at an end of it. The handle bars are inserted into the pressure cylinder. When the pressure cylinder alone rotates, since a slanting direction of the through hole is changed, an projecting angle of the handle bar inserted into the through hole from the bar-binding cylinder is changed. So a position of the handle grip can be changed easier.

  • Patent number: 5096327
Abstract: A C-shaped clamp collar is adapted for attachment to a shaft having radius R. The collar includes a screw for controlling the relative distance between the opposed ends of the collar. The collar has a nominal (rest) inner diameter less than 2R. The screw and collar adapted so that the screw may sequentially drive the opposed ends of the collar apart so that its inner diameter is greater than 2R and the collar may be placed on the shaft, and then draw those ends together until the inner diameter is equal to R and the collar is forced against the shaft.

  • Patent number: 5074724
Abstract: A portable electric router having a depth of cut adjustment mechanism including an adjustment ring which engages a screw thread on the motor housing and rotationally engages the router base. There is further provided an arrangement for preventing relative rotation between the motor housing and the base. The adjustment ring is formed as a split ring with projections adjacent opposite sides of the split, each with a frusto-conical camming surface. A circular clamp knob mounted for threaded rotation on a bolt passing through the projections radially with respect to the router motor housing bears against the camming surfaces so as to squeeze the ring in order to effect a clamping action as the knob is moved inwardly. In order to provide limit stops for preset depths of cut, a pair of stop rings are provided which are angularly rotatable on the router base.

  • Patent number: 5069054
Abstract: The rolls of a rolling mill have working rolls which may be quickly changed, with the associated tools. The rolling machine has an angular trunnion, at least on one end of the working roll, supported in a divided clamping part of a driving shaft having a mating fixture. The other end of the working roll may have a circular trunnion or a non-circular trunnion removably supported by a guiding and supporting shaft.

  • Patent number: 5059053
Abstract: A positive stop clamp for clamping a cross tube of a tie rod to a tie rod end includes a one-pieced clamp body having a U-shape cross section and a locking fastener. The clamp body includes two flat ends, each end having a pair of inwardly bent ears whereby a substantially circular interior is defined. The body further includes a cantilevered locator tab having a flange at its end. The flange abuts the end of the cross tube to locate the clamp at the desired point on the tube.

  • Patent number: 5056196
Abstract: A pipe-clip, comprising an annular clip body formed from a flexible strip, the ends of which are provided with flanges adapted to be pulled together by means of a fastening screw and nut, in which one of the flanges has an outwardly opening slot adapted to laterally receive the shank of the fastening screw. According to the invention the nut is incorporated in an auxillary part that normally bears on that side of the second flange which is turned away from the first flange, said auxiliary part being fastened in such a way, that it may resiliently bend away from said second flange through a certain angle about an axis located adjacent the transition between the annular clip body and said flange, said second flange having a slot-shaped passage opening allowing an outward tilting movement of the fastening screw.

  • Patent number: 5048919
Abstract: Means for coupling an electrooptical device, such as a semiconductor laser, to an optical fiber avoids heat-induced stresses that commonly result from joining methods employing welding, soldering, or catalytic adhesive compositions. In this invention, the electrooptical device and fiber are firmly mounted within separate elements, such as copper tubes, by means of potting compound or the like, and after close end-to-end supported alignment of the device and fiber elements to obtain optimum light coupling, the assemblage is immersed in an electrolytic plating solution. Plating current is then applied and maintained until a sufficiently strong layer of plating metal encompasses the tubular elements and thereby rigidly fixes the alignment of the device and fiber end at its optimum position. Since the plating operation proceeds in a substantially isothermic environment, there is no misaligning stress introduced which would otherwise degrade the coupling efficiency.

  • Patent number: 5046766
Abstract: A connector for corrugated tubes comprises a lower shell (100) and an upper cover (150) having lateral walls (110, 160) with several corresponding semi-circular openings (50) that define, when the cover has been closed on the shell, circular openings for receiving corrugated tubes. The openings (50) are fitted with a series of flexible fingers (10) in the form of truncated segments of a circle that form flexible skirts in the form of a circular crown around the openings. Internal semi-circular ribs (40) for longitudinally locking the fitted corrugated tubes are situated on arcuate tongues (30) arranged in a plane parallel to the corresponding opening. Each tongue (30) is connected either to the inner wall by a flexible arm (29), or to the bottom of the shell by its lower middle part.

  • Patent number: 5035676
Abstract: A universal joint has a cross formed by two mutually perpendicular pairs of coaxial trunnions, each pair of trunnions being rotatably received in bearings which in turn are coaxially retained in the bearing caps of one or two yokes. The yokes are subdivided into half sections which each include one of the bearing caps. The half sections of each yoke are separably interconnected with a juncture therebetween defined by confronting mating surfaces. Interengaging elements are provided at the juncture for preventing the thus interconnected half sections from shifting in relation to each other in directions which disturb the coaxial alignment of the bearings.
