Clamped Members Patents (Class 403/373)
  • Patent number: 6609343
Abstract: Shown is a clamping system with multiple clamps that work in combination with each other to support a load attached to an open web joist. This clamping system is typically used to clamp a piping system, of the type commonly used to suspend a basketball backboard and basket, to an open web steel joist of a gymnasium. The clamp combines a prior art “horizontal” clamp subassembly, which clamps to the opposed “lips” of the open web joist, with a second clamp subassembly which provides a “vertical” clamp centered within the horizontal clamp, supported above the open top portion of the open web joist and extending through the open middle portion of the open web joist.

  • Patent number: 6604887
Abstract: An adjustable steering tie rod assembly for a motorized vehicle is disclosed. The steering tie rod assembly has at one end a threaded steering terminal connected to a tube that has a ring-like cavity and an intermediate tubular member. The intermediate member has an internal thread and a ring-like projection on the external surface. The threaded steering terminal, the intermediate member, and the tube are connected in a concentric arrangement. The internal thread and the ring-like projection of the intermediate member allow, through the rotative movement, to adjust the length of the assembly with no axial movement of the intermediate member. A clamping mechanism is provided to ensure that the three components be fastened adequately and that a solid assembly is formed for ensuring safety for the users.

  • Patent number: 6588968
Abstract: Two structural components are releasably connected to each other by a clamping mechanism (CM) which engages two interface rings (9, 10) secured to the respective structural component. The clamping mechanism is formed by tensioning elements (5) held together by at least one, preferably two tensioning members such as straps (1, 2). A lock (15) with two hinged tensioning levers (18, 19) hinged at (21) to a mounting (17), holds the tensioning strap or straps releasably together. For this purpose each strap end is journalled by a journal bolt (3, 4) to the respective tensioning lever (18, 19). Locking elements (25, 26, 28, 30) hold the tensioning levers (18, 19) in a locked position. An electromagnetic drive or the like is used to unlock the tension levers for releasing the tensioning strap or straps in a controlled manner without completely opening the ring formed by the clamping mechanism. The position of the journal bolt (3, 4) relative to its tensioning lever (18, 19) is adjustable by an adjustment screw (22).

Bolts are used to clamp the assembly of four axle housing corner clamps to the four corners of the axle housing and to the platform on the axle bracket. The clamping force applied to each corner of the axle housing is equal and opposite to the clamping force applied to the diagonally opposite corner.

Abstract: A roof screen system comprises a number of triangular frames assembled from aluminum beams held together with pivotable clamps. Such clamps also bolt down onto roof footers with flashing boots that prevent roof leaks. A number of clips are attached to the upright triangular frames. Horizontal rails are then attached with the clips to the triangular frames, and screen panels are hung and attached to the rails. The pivotable clamps allow a slip-connection anywhere along the aluminum beams that can be locked down with ordinary wrenches. As such, the screen panels can be tilted back or forward to accommodate painted signs, electric signs, advertising, and even solar photovoltaic panels.

  • Patent number: 6199928
Abstract: The motor-actuable coupler is used for connecting workpiece grippers with a manipulating device, in particular a robot, which passes on workpieces from one stamping press to the next. The coupler consists of a fixed element (12, 66, 80, 38) on the drive side and a connecting element (10, 54) on the gripper side. Since normally a very large number of different workpiece grippers are employed and the connecting elements on the gripper side entail great costs, it is proposed that the fixed element of the coupler has a collet chuck (66, 74, 80, 38), and that the connecting element (10, 54) is a tube section, which can be centered in the fixed element (12, 66, 80) spaced apart from the clamping area (at 68, 76) located at the front end of the collet chuck. The tube section (10) is preferably centered by clamping faces (70, 78) and/or by cone surfaces (58) at its end which can be inserted into the collet chuck (14).

  • Patent number: 6176641
Abstract: An attachment element for mounting or otherwise securing an ancillary device to the vicinity of a machine tool or the like provides quick locking/release on a dovetail element. The attachment member has a base member and a pair of spaced arms forming an open-mouthed way that slides over such a dovetail member. At a locking angle relative to the dovetail, the edges of the arms bear against the dovetail sides, and the edges of the distal ends of the arms bear against the surface from which the dovetail extends. That locking angle is less than 90° angle between the plane of the attachment element and the surface from which the dovetail extends. The attachment element is translatable from its locked orientation to a release orientation by a brief application of manual pressure on it.

  • Patent number: 6128880
Abstract: A modular decking system particularly adapted for use with docks in tidal coastal environments is presented. The system provides removable modular decking sections that allow the user to remove the decking prior to a large storm, preventing destruction of the dock by the hydraulic forces of violently rising water. Alternatively, the system may be used in a residential or commercial situation allowing the user to install decking over an area that typically requires access, such as over a flat roof or over areas containing buried services such as cables or piping. The system comprises a number of decking sections that are used with a conventional joist system. Each section includes a plurality of planks that are joined together in parallel to rails that hold the planks together during transportation, installation and removal of the decking sections. A joist cap is provided over each supporting joist, and clamping mechanisms are provided to secure the decking sections to the joist system.

  • Patent number: 6126355
Abstract: A fastener, for releasably securing movable panels or other components of a support device, includes a clamping member having a cap and an externally threaded shank, a clamping knob internally threaded for movement along the shank, and a retaining member having a threaded shaft received into an internally threaded aperture of the shank. The external shank threads and internal knob threads have a relatively coarse pitch, while the shaft threads and internal aperture threads have a relatively fine pitch. The clamping knob includes a recess with a locking shoulder that engages a head of the retaining member, thus to determine a locked position for the knob, preventing further movement of the knob in the axial direction away from the cap. The locked position can be set to coincide with a clamping position of the knob, or alternatively spaced apart to allow limited axial travel of the knob.
