With Separate Means To Fasten Tool Seat To Holder Patents (Class 407/101)
  • Patent number: 6916137
Abstract: A tool holder is held in a support body by a clamp which is wedged between the support body and the tool holder. The clamp is secured in the support body by a threaded fastener that extends through a through-hole formed in the clamp. The fastener carries a flange which pulls the clamp out of wedging relationship when the fastener is unscrewed. A spring disposed in the through-hole functions to keep the clamp pressed against the tool holder even after the clamp has been loosened, in order to keep the tool holder from falling out of the support body. A stopper is disposed behind the tool holder to locate the tool holder in a desired cutting position and to keep the tool holder pressed against an abutment surface of the support body.

Abstract: The machine tool support apparatus includes an elongate bar member that comprises a mounting portion and a collet portion. The mounting portion is releasably attachable to a machine mount of a turning machine. The collet portion includes a main aperture that extends therethrough. A collet retaining assembly selectively receives a plurality of collet assemblies which are releasably attachable to the bar member and secure machine tools to the machine mount during a machining operation. A retaining pin restricts rotational movement of each of the collet assemblies with respect to the bar member. A positioning assembly selectively positions the bar member along a longitudinal axis of the bar member with respect to the machine mount. Abstract: A finishing blade having a radiused cutting edge for a chipper to produce a smooth finish on a surface of a log. The blades are mounted on the chipper such that a cut produced by one blade will be overlapped by a succeeding blade. The cutting edge of the finishing blade is radius ground to a slight curvature, The curvature of the cutting edge assures that the plane of cut produced by a first blade will be intersected by a succeeding blade.

  • Patent number: 5332339
Abstract: A throw-away cutting tool is disclosed. The tool body of the cutting tool consists of a rod-like shank and a bit mounting component arranged at the front end of the shank. The shank is made of cemented carbide, and is formed with a mounting wall extending toward the front end of the tool body. The bit mounting component is made of steel or sintered metal, and is formed with a bit mounting seat defined by a bottom wall and side walls. In the above cutting tool, high resistance against the cutting force produced by cutting operation can be obtained and separation of the shank and the bit mounting component can be prevented; and high rigidity of the tool body is ensured, the damping capacity of the tool body is increased, and therefore vibration and chatter of the cutting tool can be effectively prevented.

  • Patent number: 5322395
Abstract: A tool has a tool body which defines a first seat into which is secured an anvil. The anvil and the tool body define a second seat into which a backup plate is located. The backup plate has a longitudinally extending groove which is used to locate a form tool cutting insert. A first clamp assembly exerts a clamping force on the insert and backup plate against the anvil in a first direction. A second clamp assembly exerts a clamping force on the insert and backup plate against the anvil in a second direction, the second direction being approximately 90.degree. to the first direction. The insert has a cutting surface of a predetermined configuration on two opposite sides such that indexing of the cutting insert 180.degree. will position the opposite cutting surface in the machining ready position. The backup plate has a complementary predetermined configuration to support each of the cutting surfaces of the insert. The clamping of the insert and backup plate against the anvil in two directions approximately 90.
