  • Patent number: 5236289
Abstract: A shielded universal joint having a pivot head defining a primary axis. The pivot head has a ball and a neck. The ball has a longitudinal slot. The slot has a throat at the center of the ball. The imperfect socket head is provided having a socket and a pin. The socket defines a secondary axis. The socket has a cavity concentric with the secondary axis. The cavity closely receives the ball. The socket has a continuous margin. The pin is joined to the socket in spaced relation to the margin. The pin extends through the passage. The pin defines a first pivot axis extending longitudinally through the pin. The pin and the throat define a second pivot axis extending through the throat and the pin perpendicularly to the first pivot axis. The socket head is simultaneously pivotal relative to the ball about both of the pivot axes.

Abstract: A chamfering tool and method for use in the precision backchamfering of a rotating part. The chamfering tool has a cutting head portion selected to match the size of the surface to be chamfered. Behind the cutting head is a shank portion of reduced diameter which connects the cutting head portion to an enlarged portion which supports the chamfering tool in a fixed tool holder. If the part centerline is not aligned with the rotating collet centerline, the part center traces a circular orbit. The shank portion of reduced diameter enables the tool to flex so that the cutting head can follow the part centerline being guided by the part's inner diameter.

  • Patent number: 5088171
Abstract: A drilling unit mounted on an arm of an assembly robot. In order to enable a drill bush of a nose piece, for guiding a drill, to be adjustably moved into exactly registering relation with a bore of a template laid on a workpiece, the nose piece is mounted on a first cylindrical member which is mounted on a second cylindrical member through a first compliance mechanism comprising elastic support members which constitute oblique links of a trapezoidal link mechanism having an imaginary intersection of the oblique links at a front end of the drill bush. The drill bush can therefore make a swinging motion about the intersection. The second cylindrical member is mounted on a guide plate through a second compliance mechanism which enables the second cylindrical member and hence the drill bush to adjustably move in a radial direction of a rotational shaft of the drilling unit.

  • Patent number: 5036928
Abstract: A device for drilling an undercut in a borehole in a receiving material comprises an axially extending guide sleeve with an eccentric bore and an eccentric bushing located in the eccentric bore and being rotatable therein relative to the sleeve. A tension spring is located between the sleeve and the bushing. During rotation of the bushing, relative to the sleeve, the torsion spring is stressed. A drive shaft with a cutter head at one end extends through the bushing and is brought into an eccentric position relative to the sleeve and at the same time commences an undercut in the borehole. A lock is provided with a set of teeth on the sleeve preventing rotation of the sleeve with the bushing. When the maximum eccentricity of the drive shaft is established, the lock can be released and the sleeve rotated along with the bushing by an eccentric transmission. During such rotation, a complete circumferentially extending undercut can be formed in the borehole.

Abstract: A manually operable boring apparatus powered by compressed air drills precisely located pilot holes in cabinet doors to assist in the installation of apertured cabinet hinges. Upon the command of an operator, the hole boring apparatus causes a drill assembly containing three rapidly rotating drill bits to extend one-quarter inch into the rear face of a cabinet door. The boring apparatus further includes a bracket and retractable indexing pins which locate the drill bits a predetermined distance from the end of the cabinet door.

  • Patent number: 4029428
Abstract: Disclosed is a method and apparatus for repairing a buried main having connected lateral service conduits. In the method, a main is opened and cleaned of debris. Thereafter, an elongated conduit liner is axially inserted into a length of the buried main. The lateral service conduits are opened and cleaned from a point remote from their connection to the main. A dispenser is axially inserted through the service conduit to a point adjacent to the connection. At the connection, polyurethane material is dispensed into a portion of the service conduit and in the annular space between the main and the liner. Thereafter, the dispenser means is removed from the service conduit and the polyurethane material is allowed to set. A cutter apparatus is axially inserted into the service conduit and is manipulated to form a port through the polyurethane material and the wall of the liner to connect the service conduit to the liner.

  • Patent number: 4014622
Abstract: A reamer held in its required non-rotative condition for effective reaming by a rearwardly disposed key and key way construction, and wherein an elastomeric ring in encircling relation about the reamer maintains, without adverse effect on the holding function of the key and key way, the key in a clearance position within its cooperating key way, to thereby permit adjusting movements in the reamer to correct for misalignment between the reamer and the drilled hole to be reamed.

  • Patent number: 3970406
Abstract: A compression tool holder for use with deburring tools or the like, the tool holder having a cylindrical outer housing adapted to be inserted into a chuck of a rotary drive machine. A tool holding rod is axially slidably mounted in a cylindrical recess formed in the tool holder. A spring loaded piston is mounted behind the rod and urges the rod to its extended position. A cap member, however, defines the limit of the extended position for the rod. The rod has an outside diameter somewhat smaller than the inside diameter of the cylindrical recess in the tool holder so that the rod may compensate for misalignment by pivoting relative to the housing within the cylindrical bore, utilizing the cap member as the fulcrum point for its pivot. The end surface of the piston coacts with the end surface of the tool holding rod so as to return the tool holding rod to a central aligned position when misalignment compensation is not required.

  • Patent number: 3945751
Abstract: A universal floating tool holder adapted for floatingly holding tools and particularly adapted for holding a tap for a tapping tool. The toolholder embodies telescoping bodies with a clutch in between the two bodies. Also between the telescoping bodies there are provided resilient means preferably in the form of O-rings. Provision is made for a limited amount of relative axial movement or displacement between the two bodies sufficient for clutch disengagemeent. The resilient means between the two bodies allows for relative radial or lateral float or displacement of one body relative to the other. The outer telescoping body holds the tool which may be attached in a chuck.

  • Patent number: RE32415
Abstract: An adjustable power transmitting device comprising a rotary input shaft mounted for rotation about a first axis and an output shaft mounted for rotation about a second axis. The output shaft is also mounted for pivotal movement about at least two non-parallel axes so that the position of the output shaft can be adjusted about both of these axes. The input shaft is drivingly coupled to the output shaft so that the input shaft can rotate the output shaft in all positions of the output shaft about the two non-parallel axes.
