  • Patent number: 8721235
Abstract: The invention relates to a drilling tool with a base, having a central axis of rotation, and a drill bit, detachably connected to the base. The drill bit has a coupling part, which can be coupled with a coupling receptacle on the face of the base and has at least two convexly curved centring portions, which are arranged such that they are distributed over the circumference and engage with an exact fit in complementary concavely curved centring portions of the coupling receptacle. The coupling part has a complementary driver stop, meshing with a rotary driver of the coupling receptacle. It is claimed as novel that the centring portions of the coupling part and/or of the coupling receptacle have clamping surfaces, which run onto each other in the manner of a rotary wedge until the driver stop and the rotary driver come up against each other counter to a predetermined direction of rotation.

Abstract: A throw-away rotating tool includes at least two grooved portions 13b, 13c formed on each of erected portions 13 and at least two protrusions 26, 27 for fitting into and removal from respective grooved portions 13b, 13c and projected from a projecting coupling portion 23, and the grooved portions 13b, 13c are formed asymmetrically about an axis O and the protrusions 26, 27 are formed asymmetrically about the axis. Thus, the direction in which the projecting coupling portion 23 can be coupled to the erected portions 13 is uniquely determined. Consequently, variations in lip height and run-out can be minimized. As a result, occurrence of a bend and an increase in machined hole diameter during drilling can be prevented, thereby making it possible to minimize variations in machining accuracy and tool life.

In each cross-section, each chip flute has a depth equal to the difference between the radius of a cutting circle and a radius of a greatest possible core circle centered on the longitudinal axis and tangential to a limiting curve of the respective chip flute. The basic body is divided longitudinally into a coupling segment, extending axially rearward from a coupling end, and a transportation segment that is situated axially behind the coupling segment, extends rearward toward a fixing end, and is longer than the coupling segment. Each chip flute extends through the coupling segment and the transportation segment. At least essentially the entire female part is situated in the coupling segment, and each chip flute has a smaller depth in the coupling segment than in the transportation segment.

Abstract: A machine tool bit, such as a tool for drilling, milling, reaming or tapping or the like comprising a work portion (71) and a shank (73) extending from the work portion. The shank (73) is provided with one or more regions of reduced mechanical torque strength. Such regions can be for example, a reduced diameter (74), axial or longitudinal slots (84, 114), reduced cross sectional area (97), bores (94), annular notch or groove (63, 65), or a slot. The shank is preferably constructed with these features such that the transverse stability of the tool bit is greater than a machine tool bit in which an equivalent reduction in mechanical torque strength is achieved by a mere reduction in diameter of the shank. Technically, the Polar moment of inertia (resistance to torsion) of the modified shank is greater than the polar moment of inertia of a shank with a mere reduction in diameter of the shank.

Abstract: A cutting tool, and a loose top therefore, includes two parts detachably connected to each other via a threaded joint in which co-operating male and female threads are included in the form of helicoidal ridges. The profile shape of each helicoidal ridge is defined by a top and two flanks, which delimit a helicoidal groove having a bottom. The first flank is inclined in relation to a center axis of the tool at a first angle that is smaller than a second angle of the second flank in relation to the center axis. Accordingly, the thread ridge is reinforced in comparison with thread ridges having a symmetrical profile shape, whereby larger tensile forces than compressive forces can be applied to the threaded joint while avoiding damage to the thread ridges.

The tool holder's axial bore includes an enlarged eccentrically-shaped drive opening which is complementary in shape to, but slightly larger than, the driver portion. This partial rotation abuts a portion of the eccentric driver portion against the drive opening wall to provide rigid support of the cutting tool against further rotation as the tool assembly cuts.
