  • Patent number: 5100283
Abstract: A hoist is provided for lifting, positioning and holding a trailer hitch beneath the frame of a motor vehicle to facilitate installation of the hitch. A movable platform supports an upstanding post having a sleeve telescoped thereon. Both the post and sleeve have complimentary non-circular cross sections to prevent rotation of the sleeve on the post. A winch carried by the sleeve raises and lowers the sleeve via a cable attached to the post above the sleeve. A support arm has its proximal end pivotally connected about a horizontal axis to the sleeve. The distal end of the arm receives a variety of couplers for attachment to various hitches. A hydraulic cylinder also carried by the sleeve beneath the arm has a piston rod positioned to engage the arm a short distance from its proximal end to raise and lower the arm with a hitch thereon for angular adjustment independent of movement of the sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5078021
Abstract: In a multi-axis mechanical manipulator with adjustable travel and protection against overloading. The movement is transmitted to the indexing mechanism (10) by the combination of a sliding rotor motor (2) of a reducing gear with wheel and endless screw (30) and an adjustable torque limiter (40). The law of motion of the indexing mechanism (10) is determined in this way so as to obtain constant speed over a wide range, possibly with stopping points. The rotating frame (56) is linked to the indexing mechanism (10) by a spring bushing (50). The movement is transmitted to the cylindrical cam (6) by an adjustable torque limiter (28). The manipulating arm (7) is displaced by a spring plate which permits a momentary angular retraction of the arm (7) when it encounters an obstacle. The present invention may be used for the handling of loads or parts.

  • Patent number: 4685859
Abstract: A retention collar rigidly attaches to a missile guidance assembly, and a transport cart lifts, supports, transports, and lowers the retention collar and thereby a retained assembly. The retention collar comprises a pair of trunnions for attachment to a workpiece, such as a missile guidance assembly, and for positioning on opposite sides of the workpiece. The transport cart includes a movable base with a frame attached thereto. The frame includes left and right side frame members which support a pair of rotatable bearing members so positioned to engage a corresponding one of the retention collar trunnions. A slot in each bearing member engages a collar trunnion. The slots include a bearing position at which the trunnion is held and which is raised or lowered by rotating the bearing member. The trunnions may also be rotated while at the bearing position. A frame/bearing locking pin selectively prevents rotation relative to the frame of the rotatable bearing member.

Abstract: A pipe handling apparatus is adapted for transferring oil well pipe to and from a drilling rig. The apparatus includes a transportable chassis having tracks for supporting and guiding a reciprocable and rotatable table. A first scissors lift mounted to the table provides vertical motion to a platform to which is mounted a second scissors lift. The second scissors lift is designed to impart vertical and horizontal motion to a conveyor. The conveyor comprises three axially spaced endless belts for moving the pipe longitudinally to the conveyor takeoff point. Tapered spades protrude into the spaces during the pipe return operation to eject the pipe from the conveyor. The conveyor and platform are reciprocable with respect to the second and first scissors lifts, respectively. The chassis includes pivotable arms for raising a pipe to the top of the collapsed scissors lifts so that a pipe rolls onto the conveyor belts prior to lifting.

Abstract: This invention is directed to an apparatus for lifting objects. The apparatus is suspended from a cable which is attached to a crane. The apparatus is used in construction such as in the construction of buildings. The apparatus can connect with a precast concrete panel and lift the precast concrete panel to a desired opening in a building under construction. Also, the apparatus can lift building material to a desired opening in a building, to a proper location in a dam under construction, and to a tower under construction such as a high voltage electric line tower, a radio and television tower and the like. The crane can be on top of the article being constructed such as a building or a dam or the crane can be on the ground. The cable is suspended from the crane and attaches to the apparatus so that the position of the apparatus can be varied both horizontally and vertically and also away from the article under construction and toward the article under construction.

  • Patent number: 4664586
Abstract: A handling system supports a closure member, e.g. a manway cover or tensioner ring, for maintaining it in position when opening or closing operations are performed thereon and for moving it conveniently into or out of engagement with a mating member without damage to supporting studs. Gimbaling means include first and second attachable connections each vertically supported to a pneumatic cylinder assembly whose internal pressure is set to generate an upward force equal to the weight supported. An operator may provide a force to overcome damping forces at each support point to move the closure member in all degrees of freedom, and the member appears essentially weightless to the operator. The vertically movable connections are supported for translational movement on a cart which is also movable. Reliable movement of a closure member with respect to a pressure vessel is provided without the need for alignment or calibration of a path defined by the closure member support means.
