  • Patent number: 6887034
Abstract: A centrifugal pump having an adjustable clean-out assembly (60), the position of which determines the face clearance between a wear plate (72) and an impeller (20). The clean-out assembly includes an end cover (63) that threadedly mounts a plurality of adjustment assemblies. The adjustment assembly includes an adjuster (104) that defines a through bore for slidably receiving a retaining stud (66) that extends from the pump housing. Each adjuster includes an abutment surface (108) which engages a pump surface and which establishes the face clearance between the wear plate and the impeller. Each adjuster includes a hex-shaped head which is engageable by an associated locking member (120) secured to the end cover. Each locking member includes a locking collar (120a) having 18 teeth which allows the collar to engage the hex-shaped head of the adjuster in 18 different postions.

  • Patent number: 6739829
Abstract: A seal for use in a centrifugal pump of the type used for pumping an abrasive slurry, and having a sealing ring groove formed in the pump casing and an arrangement for supplying flushing water, comprising a radial seal having a sealing end, a water receiving end, and opposed sides and adapted for installation within the sealing ring groove, the radial seal having multiple openings formed therethrough for the passage of flushing water. The openings are dimensioned and located so that when flushing water is supplied to the water receiving end of the radial seal, the water flows through the openings, causing the radial seal to automatically moves to a self-compensating balanced position between the pump casing and a rotating pump impeller. This will reduce leakage between the pump casing and pump impeller and reduce wear of the pump surfaces.

  • Patent number: 6599086
Abstract: An adjustable wear plate positioning assembly for a centrufigal pump having a casing with an inlet port offset from a pump impeller mounted within an impeller housing. The positioning assembly includes a wear plate carrier extending between a front wall of the housing and the impeller chamber. The wear plate carrier has an outer end slidably received an aperture through the front wall. The wear plate carrier further has an inner end slidably received within a second aperture in the partition wall opposite an inlet face of the impeller. A mounting plate is secured to the outer end of the wear plate carrier and disposed externally of the casing. Adjustable limit means and releasable locking means act between the front wall and the flange for positioning the carrier and in turn the wear plate relative to the impeller and for locking the assembly in place.

  • Patent number: 6505834
Abstract: An embodiment providing a seal assembly for turbomachinery for controlling flow of a fluid medium in a fluid path comprises a casing having an internal pressure load path and a seal carrier chamber. A movable seal carrier is disposed within the seal carrier chamber and interposed between the pressure load path and an external flow path. In addition, a pressure selecting apparatus is coupled to the pressure load path to control flow therethrough. Moreover, the position of the movable seal carrier moves in response to a pressure differential determined by the pressure selecting apparatus between the pressure load path and the external flow path.

  • Patent number: 6457933
Abstract: An orifice plate assembly for a gas turbine engine that facilitates extending a useful life of bearing assemblies within the gas turbine engine is described. Each orifice plate assembly is coupled in flow communication with an engine air source, and includes a first body portion and a second body portion. The first body portion includes a channel and a flow opening. The channel is sized to receive the second body portion, such that the second body portion may slide with respect to the first body portion. The orifice plate assembly is adjustable after engine shutdown to regulate bearing loading.

  • Patent number: 6375414
Abstract: A pump (1) for pumping a slurry comprises a pump housing (2) defining a pumping chamber (5) with an impeller (6) located therein for pumping the slurry from an axial inlet port (7) to a radial outlet port (8). The impeller (6) is carried on a pump shaft (10) which is in turn rotatably carried in a shaft carrier sleeve (18) in a carrier housing (12) which also carries the pump housing (2). The shaft carrier sleeve (18) and the pump shaft (10) are axially adjustable in the direction of the arrows A and B for adjusting an axial clearance gap (25) between the impeller (6) and the pump housing (2). A shaft seal (9) for sealing the pumping chamber (5) comprises a packed gland seal (42) and a rotating sealing ring (38) and a stationary sealing ring (39). A lubricating fluid cavity (40) is located between the packed gland seal (42) and the rotating and stationary sealing rings (38,39) for lubricating axially facing rotating and stationary sealing surfaces (52,58).
