  • Patent number: 5885064
Abstract: An improved reed type compressor discharge valve assembly uses a conventional reed and reed stop, but increases flow efficiency past the reed with a uniquely configured valve plate port. The valve plate port has an elongated ovoid or teardrop shape, oriented colinear to and symmetrical to the reed. A greater surface area is thus opened to the underside of the reed, compared to a round port, and the wider end of the port is located beneath the higher lifting free end of the reed, providing for a larger, more efficient flow path.

  • Patent number: 5779458
Abstract: In a reciprocating compressor, a piston reciprocates to compress a gas, and the compressed gas communicates with a discharge opening formed in a valve plate to force open a discharge valve apparatus mounted on the valve plate. The discharge valve apparatus includes a discharge valve and a stopper disposed behind the discharge valve. The discharge valve includes a fixing or anchoring portion and a movable portion which is flexibly movable relative to the fixing portion for opening and closing the discharge opening. The stopper limits the opening angle that can be achieved by the movable portion of the valve. The stopper forms a corner that bears against the valve. The corner extends at an oblique angle relative to a longitudinal axis of the valve in order to attenuate vibration in the movement portion of the valve before it reaches the fixing portion, thereby stabilizing the valve.

Abstract: A piston pump for conveying a fluid includes a cylinder which is not flanged to the pump casing, but rather is inserted in the pump casing and is retained in the longitudinal direction by a pretensioned spring. A seal is arranged between the cylinder jacket and the pump casing in order to seal the pressure side with respect to the suction side of the piston pump. An extremely compact piston pump results therefrom, suitable, in particular, for use in the low-temperature range due to very low cold losses.

  • Patent number: 5277557
Abstract: The invention is directed to a hand-operated vacuum pump and more specifically, a hand-held and hand-operated vacuum pump for obstetrical use incorporating an improved vacuum regulation system. The hand-held and hand-operated vacuum pump comprises a cylinder, having a piston located therewithin. The piston is movable between extended and retracted positions by a hand-operated lever. There is a first passage extending into the cylinder from an external space to be evacuated. The space is defined by the scalp of a baby and a vacuum cranial bell fitted thereon. A second passage connects this intermediate chamber with the cylinder through a first valve, preferably a one-way valve located in the cylinder head. A third passage connects the intermediate chamber to a second valve which automatically controls the maximum vacuum in the external space. A fourth passage from the intermediate chamber is a vacuum adjustment valve.

  • Patent number: 5266016
Abstract: A reciprocating piston hermetic compressor is disclosed, including a crankcase defining a cylinder, and a cylinder head and valve plate assembly attached to the top surface of the crankcase to cover the cylinder. A cantilevered suction leaf valve has an attached end intermediate the crankcase top surface and the valve plate. During a compression stroke of the compressor, the unattached end of the suction valve is forced by pressure against the valve plate to cover a suction inlet opening. During an intake stroke of the compressor, the unattached end is drawn away from the valve plate to open the suction inlet opening. The unattached end of the suction valve is limited in its travel into the cylinder by engagement with a positive stop defined by a generally inclined milled surface intersecting the crankcase top surface and the cylinder wall.

  • Patent number: 5249939
Abstract: The present invention is directed to an improved valved discharge mechanism of a refrigerant compressor. The compressor includes a compressor housing having at least one chamber in which successive strokes of sucking, compressing, and discharging a refrigerant gas is repeatedly performed. The chamber is linked to an outside chamber through a conduit formed in the compressor housing. A valved discharge mechanism is disposed at one end opening of the conduit which opens to the outside chamber. The valved discharge mechanism includes a discharge reed valve which by means of a bending movement blocks and opens the one end opening of the conduit. The discharge reed valve has a predetermined value of elastic modulus which allows the discharge reed valve to keep blocking the one end opening of the conduit until the pressure in the chamber reaches a predetermined value.

  • Patent number: 5226799
Abstract: A low wear poppet valve in a high pressure reciprocating pump. Relative movement of the mating surfaces due to compressive distortion is eliminated. There is a valve seat having a flow passage and an upper mating surface, and a poppet element which sealingly abuts this. The flow passage is in communication with a low pressure zone, and the outer surfaces of the seat and element are in communication with a high pressure zone. The poppet element has a recess in its mating surface surrounded by a wall portion, and the low pressure zone is communicated from the flow passage into the interior of the recess. This enables the wall portion of the element to be displaced inwardly and outwardly in concert with the wall portion of the seat by the cyclic pressure differential which is generated between the zones by the operation of the pump. This eliminates relative movement between these parts which would otherwise cause fretting wear of their mating surfaces.

  • Patent number: 5209260
Abstract: A valve unit for a hermetic reciprocating compressor comprises a valve plate adapted to be attached to the end of a piston cylinder. A discharge passage is formed through the valve plate, and a valve assembly is mounted within a stepped recess formed in an outer side of the valve plate for opening and closing the discharge passage. The outlet end of the discharge passage is situated within the recess and is spaced inwardly from the outer side so that the length, and hence the volume, of the discharge passage is reduced. Hence, the amount of compressed gas remaining in the discharge passage at the end of a piston stroke is correspondingly reduced, so that a vacuum can be formed in the piston chamber more quickly as the piston is retracted.
