Firing Mechanism Patents (Class 42/69.01)
  • Publication number: 20120131832
Abstract: In an embodiment, a low-force, low-friction, short-travel, low-energy control rolling trigger utilizes a rolling element as a trigger-release mechanism in equipment, machines and tools such as for clutches, brakes, actuators, and projectile launchers. The rolling elements within the trigger mechanism reduce the friction, which in-turn reduces the force necessary to discharge trigger. In an embodiment, the trigger is part of a firearm and uses a mechanical trigger. In another embodiment, the trigger is activated by an electronic signal that activates a solenoid, which pulls the rolling element, and thereby releases the striker or in a trigger-release assembly.

Abstract: A spring is formed of a relatively thin sheet of spring material, which is constricted and held in place at each end forming a bell curve being located between two substantially planar members. As additional compressive force is applied in the vertical direction, the curve then compresses and starts to form sine waves. In an improved embodiment of the present invention, the sine wave spring is formed in a wedge shape, so that it is gradually taller and more progressive. This embodiment has been tested for use as a trailer spring with positive results. This wedge-shaped sine wave spring provides even more advantages over the Prior Art. The wedge-shaped prototype illustrates also how the present invention may be expanded to other shapes, in order to alter the spring characteristics, and also for packaging and other concerns.

Abstract: A handle assembly and combined interface system for use with a semi-automatic firearm to facilitate controlled bump firing methods. The handle assembly includes a finger rest for the user's trigger finger. The interface system is attached to a receiver of the firearm, and is slideably disposed in the handle assembly for reciprocation. In use, the user pushes a firing unit portion forward with an opposite hand so that its trigger collides with the user's finger, thus stimulating a round of ammunition. Recoil forces the firing unit rearwardly so that the trigger separates from the finger. The user then applies another forward activation force that urges the firing unit forwardly again to repeat the cycle for as long as the user chooses. A lock can be selectively engaged to restrict longitudinal movement of the firearm relative to the handle, thereby returning the firearm to normal semi-automatic functionality.

The forward face is a rear rest for the safety spring (5) with its front part resting on the rear face of the axially floating ring (3) with an internal diameter smaller than the external diameter of the front (1c) and middle (1b) enlargements. The external diameter is greater than the internal diameter of the front enlargement (1c). Between the rear part of the mainspring (4) and the bushing (6) there is a second axially floating ring (2) with an internal diameter smaller than the external diameter of the rear (1a) and middle (1b) enlargements. The spring (12) that returns the trigger (10) is pushing the trigger (10) forward and the trigger bar (14) up.

Abstract: Apparatus for a modular fire control assembly for a firearm. The modular fire control assembly integrates a hammer, a sear, a disconnector, and sear and disconnector springs in a single housing. The force applied by the sear spring is adjustable by a set screw, which enables the sear spring force to be dialed in. The sear spring and set screw are contained in a block in the housing. The sear spring engages a detent that applies spring force to the sear. The sear spring moves in a smooth bore that has a ledge that allows the spring to maintain a minimum force even when the set screw is removed. A self-contained disconnector spring ensures constant spring force on the disconnector regardless of adjustments to the sear spring force. The modular assembly is configured to be received in a lock cavity of the firearm and secured using conventional pins.
