Publication number: 20130341444Abstract: To improve throughput of biomedical waste treatment, the present inventors devised an exemplary ozone-based system including a shredder, a roll-off treatment bin with ozone injectors, an ozone source, and a controller. The controller monitors electric current drawn by the shredder as shredded waste enters the ozone-enriched treatment bin. In response to current falling below a predetermined low level, indicating that a batch of waste has been shredded and loaded into the treatment bin, the controller starts a treatment timer. The timer measures elapsed ozone treatment or exposure time. If additional waste is added to the shredder and a subsequent low-current condition is detected, the controller restarts the treatment timer. Expiration of the timer indicates that the waste in the roll-off bin is sterilized and ready for transport to landfills. The exemplary system provides continuous waste processing and promises to boost throughput by 50% over some conventional ozone-based waste-treatment systems.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 20, 2013Publication date: December 26, 2013Inventors: Peter Jude, Stephen Pellegrene, Michael Hofer

Publication number: 20130244285Abstract: Methods and systems for acoustically treating material using a continuous process in which material may be caused to flow in a continuous or intermittent fashion into/out of an acoustic treatment chamber where the material is exposed to focused acoustic energy. The methods and systems may be arranged to permit continuous processing for extended periods while an acoustic energy source operates at a relatively high power output. Treatment chambers may include features such as an acoustic window, a heat exchanger, inlet/outlet flow arrangements, an inspection window, insert elements that define a treatment volume size or shape, etc. Treatment system configurations relating to arrangements of a treatment chamber relative to an acoustic source and coupling medium, material flow paths, and others are provided.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 10, 2013Publication date: September 19, 2013Applicant: Covaris, Inc.Inventors: James A. Publication number: 20130236363Abstract: A hydrogen peroxide delivery system for a sterilizer having a hydrogen peroxide injection unit and a housing is disclosed. The system includes a cradle for supporting a hydrogen peroxide solution container, a drainage arrangement for aspirating the hydrogen peroxide solution from the container, and a delivery arrangement for supplying the aspirated hydrogen peroxide solution to the hydrogen peroxide injection unit. The drainage arrangement includes a needle for penetrating a seal on the container and extending into the hydrogen peroxide solution in the container. A needle drive moves the needle from an at rest position, wherein the needle is retracted to allow insertion of a new hydrogen peroxide container into the cradle, to a penetrating position wherein the needle penetrates the seal of the container and extends all the way to the bottom of the container to ensure complete drainage of the hydrogen peroxide solution from the container.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2013Publication date: September 12, 2013Applicant: TS03 INC.Inventors: Bruno TREMBLAY, Jean-Martin VALLIERES

Publication number: 20130230426Abstract: The cold plasma sterilization device for the sterilization of at least one object is placed in a container enclosing at least a gas or a gas mixture suitable for generating a cold plasma. The device includes a closed vessel in which a support for receiving the container is arranged. There is a device for subjecting the vessel to a secondary vacuum of the order of 10?3 to 10?7 millibar. There is an electron cyclotron resonance generator for generating, in the vessel, a flow of microwaves coupled to a magnetic field at least in a phase of initialization of the cold plasma. There is also a device for polarization of the support of the container.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 23, 2011Publication date: September 5, 2013Applicant: Universite de Reims Champagne ArdenneInventors: Jean-Marc Popot, Marie-Paule Gelle

Patent number: 8524156Abstract: A tube bundle reactor carries out endothermic or exothermic gas phase reactions. The tube bundle of reactor tubes are filled with catalyst, and have their ends fastened tightly in tube sheets (3, 4). A fluid heat carrier (10) flows around the tubes during operation. A shell (5) encloses the tube bundle. A gas inlet head (6) spans one of the tube sheets, and a gas outlet head (7) spans the other tube sheet. The reactor tubes are in fluid communication with the gas inlet and outlet heads (6, 7), and further include at least one stage thermometer (9) installed in a thermometer tube (2) disposed in the tube bundle. The at least one stage thermometer (9) is axially movable inside the thermometer tube (2), and the tube bundle reactor (1) includes a mechanical positioning means (8) to effect the axial movement of the stage thermometer (9). Moreover, a method is proposed for measuring a temperature profile in tube bundle reactors of the kind specified.Type: GrantFiled: November 20, 2008Date of Patent: September 3, 2013Assignee: Man DWE GmbHInventors: Rolf Bank, Dieter Verbeek, Alfons Berndl
