Abstract: Components, for example, nanoparticles for detecting and/or treating one or more active carious lesions or microcavities in teeth of a subject are provided. The component or nanoparticle may comprise a biocompatible and biodegradable polymer (e.g., a starch) bearing at least one cationic region and/or having a net positive charge and thereby capable of associating with one or more active and/or early carious lesions on a tooth in an oral cavity of a subject. The components or nanoparticles are optionally water soluble or dispersible. The components or nanoparticle also comprises an imaging agent (e.g., a fluorophore or dye) bonded to the biocompatible and biodegradable polymer. The component or nanoparticle is thus capable of indicating the presence of one or more active carious lesions when the component or nanoparticle is associated therewith. Oral care compositions comprising such compounds/nanoparticles and methods of making and using the same are also provided.

Abstract: Disclosed herein is a method of producing high purity pentagalloyl glucose (PGG), analogues or derivatives thereof, at least 99.9% pure, by washing with dimethyl ether. PGG may be provided in a kit, including a hydrolyzer for dissolving the PGG and a saline solution. Also disclosed herein is a device for delivery of a therapeutic solution to a blood vessel. The device may be a catheter having an upstream balloon and a downstream balloon. The upstream balloon may be expanded to anchor the catheter and occlude antegrade blood flow. The downstream balloon may be expanded to occlude retrograde blood flow, creating a sealed volume within the blood vessel. The downstream balloon may have pores configured to deliver a therapeutic inflation solution into the sealed volume or a portion thereof. The downstream balloon may be expanded by the expansion of a balloon disposed inside the downstream balloon.

Abstract: The invention relates to lipid polymeric patchy particles formed by nanoprecipitation and emulsification processes, utilizing a polymer blend including the polymer, solvent and lipid-PEGylated functional groups. More particularly, the invention relates to synthesizing particles having different or pre-selected morphologies (internal and external) and physicochemical properties. It has been found that the shear stress experienced by the polymer blend during emulsification can impart certain external and internal morphology and physicochemical properties to the resulting particles. Further, the one or more patches of the particles can be functionalized, such as, with gold nanoparticles, for use of the particles, in particular, in photoacoustic and ultrasound imaging.
Abstract: This disclosure provides generally for antimicrobial compositions and methods of use comprising an anthocyanin, an anthocyanidin or metabolites thereof. Methods for promoting healing of a wound using these compositions are also disclosed. These compositions have broad spectrum antimicrobial activity and are safe for human and animal uses. Further, these compositions are safe for medical uses and industrial uses as antiseptic preparations to reduce or prevent microbial growth, including killing bacterial biofilms.
Abstract: Compositions and methods are provided for improving the health of an animal by reducing certain diseases and by binding certain heavy metals that may be unintentionally introduced into the body of the animal from the environment. Compositions and methods are also provided for improving the feed conversion ratio of an animal. In addition, compositions and methods are provided for reducing nitrate pollution in the environment. In one embodiment, the composition may include mastic gum, a mixture of ionic minerals, and optionally an essential amino acid not produced by the animal. The ionic minerals may be derived from water sourced from an inland sea such as the Great Salt Lake, the Dead Sea, or another inland sea. The essential amino acid may be included in the form of a protein. The animal may be a ruminant, poultry, or other animal. Methods are also provided for processing mastic gum.
Abstract: This disclosure relates to targeted protease compositions and uses related thereto. In certain embodiments, the disclosure relates to nanoparticles wherein a targeting molecule is linked to the nanoparticle and wherein a catalytic domain of a protease is linked to the nanoparticle. In certain embodiments, the targeting molecule and the catalytic domain are within a single polypeptide sequence.
