Abstract: A method and apparatus for creating pre-stressed zones in concrete. In one embodiment, a circular blade is coated with a chemical which retards the setting of the concrete. The circular blade is then rolled through the wet concrete, thus transferring the retarding chemical from the blade into the concrete. The region of wet concrete that has the retarding chemical introduced into it does not set until after the surrounding concrete has set and shrunk, thus creating a pre-stressed zone which typically manifests itself as a crack, visible upon setting of the wet concrete. Other embodiments describe alternative ways of introducing the chemical into the wet concrete.

The system comprises a cooling unit, a conveyor belt urging the pieces through the unit, and a chopper for cutting the pieces exiting the unit. A cryogen source provides cryogen to the cooling unit. A feeder feeds the ground food product onto the conveyor belt adjacent an inlet of the unit. The feeder also extrudes the ground food product through a nozzle to place the stranded pieces onto the conveyor belt. A shear plate cuts the stranded pieces, while being extruded. A hydraulic system moves the shearing plate. The system is adapted to dispense cryogen to the cooling region at a rate sufficient to lower the temperature of the cut stranded pieces to a desired temperature when they exit the unit. Abstract: A method of trimming blow-molded products while in the mold including the steps of placing a parison between a mold having two mold halves, moving the two mold halves together to form a cavity and enclose a portion of the parison, pressurizing the inside of the parison to produce a product and trimming a portion of the product while it is in the mold by applying a vacuum to those portions adjacent to a cutter and by then moving the cutter across the cavity and across the portion of the product to be cut. The mold halves are then separated and the product is removed therefrom. The apparatus for achieving this method includes a cutter slidably disposed in a first slot and having a slot plugging member slidably exposed in a second slot wherein the cutter and slot plugging member will prevent plastic from entering the first and second slots when the plastic product is being formed. After the plastic is formed, a vacuum is applied to portions of the product adjacent to the cutter.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process and a production installation for producing shell-shaped, fibre-reinforced plastic parts. According to the invention, it is intended that the plastic parts can be produced efficiently, in an automated manner which is flexible with respect to the process and workpiece and is operationally reliable. For this purpose, the following process steps are provided: a blank of the endless fibre mat corresponding to a workpiece is placed in an automated manner by industrial robots onto a clamping frame surrounding the female mould and is taken over by the clamping frame in a clamping manner and in such a way that it can slide after itself against a defined resistance. Wide-ranging accessibility required for this is created by a horizontally movable unit, comprising a female mould and a clamping frame, being temporarily moved completely out from the forming press and moved back again into the forming press after completion of loading.

Abstract: The invention consists of a device and a method for sectioning of organs and irregular tissue blocks into tissue sections of a predefined thickness and orientation, in one uniform working process. The tissue is embedded into an alginate polymer, which is poured into an embedding container with two opposite arrays of parallel grooves. After hardening, the polymer can be sectioned in slices of a predetermined thickness. This is achieved by razor blade cuts through an array of parallel grooves in the embedding container. Finally, the tissue and alginate polymer can be removed by removing the side of the embedding container resulting in a series of parallel sections of predefined and often equal thickness.

Abstract: An apparatus for shaping a slab of compressible or cellular polymer material (80), such as polyurethane foam, shapes such slab by cutting portions of the material from one surface. A moving patterned platform (32), preferably an endless belt or a series of interconnected panels, is interposed between a compression roller (56) and a cooperating surface (18) and defines at least one recess (36) or at least one projection (320) or a combination of recesses and projections. When the slab is compressed between the compression roller and the platform, which is supported by the cooperating surface, a portion of the material fills the recess or recesses in the moving platform.
