Patent number: 7399174Abstract: A method and apparatus for compression molding plastic articles include a plurality of tools mounted in opposed pairs with the tools of each pair including opposed first and second actuators that define a mold cavity in which a charge of plastic is compression molded. The tooling is preferably carried by a rotary turret so that first and second actuators of each tooling pair are moveable relative to each other between an open position permitting formed articles to be removed from the tooling and to receive fresh charges of plastic, and a closed position to compression mold the charges of plastic.Type: GrantFiled: April 8, 2004Date of Patent: July 15, 2008Assignee: Graham Packaging PET Technologies Inc.Inventors: L. Robert Deardurff, Richard A. Farquharson, George Knapik, Thomas E. Nahill, Gregory A. Ritz, Michael A. Rymer, John B. Wright

Patent number: 6918754Abstract: A blow mold machine, comprising two lockable mold halves. A locking element is fixed onto one mold half and a shaft with at least one recess is mounted in the other mold half. The shaft can be pivoted between a locking position, in which it lies against the locking element and a release position, in which the locking element can be displaced past the recess. A locking mechanism with a particularly simple construction can thus be achieved.Type: GrantFiled: March 9, 2001Date of Patent: July 19, 2005Assignee: Krones AGInventor: Thomas Albrecht

Patent number: 6709251Abstract: A support for rotating molds used in multi-shot injection molding provides for platen mounting of a support track that may extend beneath the molds to support the rotating mold portion. The extensible track provides a telescoping configuration that allows a long support span independent of the mold width improving mold stability and increasing potential mold separation for easy access to the mold portions.Type: GrantFiled: November 16, 2001Date of Patent: March 23, 2004Assignee: MGS Enterprises, Inc.Inventors: Dennis J. Publication number: 20030203068Abstract: An injection molding machine includes a stationary platen, a movable platen constructed for movement relative to the stationary platen, at least one tie bar for tension-proof connection of the fixed and movable platens, and a traction transmitting securing device including a securing element, disposed on a rear side of one of the platens, for interacting with the tie bar within an engagement zone. The securing element and the tie bar are provided with a number of projections and recesses in axial spaced-apart relationship to establish a form-fitting connection, whereby the projections and the recesses are pressed together when exposed to a tensile stress and interlock at an axial clearance which increases along the engagement zone in axial direction corresponding to the tensile stress of the tie bar.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 7, 2003Publication date: October 30, 2003Applicant: KRAUSS-MAFFEI KUNSTSTOFFTECHNIK GMBHInventor: Walter Wohlrab

Publication number: 20030020194Abstract: A method and a mold clamping press for injection molding machines; the press comprises a stationary platen and a movable platen operatively connected to control means which can be operated to relatively move the platens towards and away from each other. Slidable tie-rods, each connected to a respective control cylinder, axially extend between the platens passing through locking bushes rotatably supported by a platen of the press. Each locking bush and the corresponding tie-rod are provided with opposite intermeshing screw threads having an axial clearance; the bushes are made to rotate in synchronism and in a way correlated to the displacement of the movable platen, avoiding any frictional contact between the screw threads during the closing and opening of the mold.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 9, 2002Publication date: January 30, 2003Inventors: Leonardo Di Dio, Anselmo Vignale
