Patent number: 8857372Abstract: An isothermal, low pressure-based process of depositing material within a substrate has been developed and results in creating an extremely narrow reaction zone within which a more uniform and efficient deposition will occur. Sets of isothermal plasma operating conditions have been found that create a narrow deposition zone, assuring that the deposited material is clear glass rather than soot particles. The chemical delivery system, in one arrangement, utilizes rods of solid phase source material (which may otherwise be difficult to obtain in gaseous form). The operating conditions are selected such that the hot plasma does not transfer a substantial amount of heat to the substrate tube, where the presence of such heat has been found to result in vaporizing the reactant material (creating soot) and developing hot spots.Type: GrantFiled: September 27, 2010Date of Patent: October 14, 2014Inventors: James Fleming, George Zydzik

Publication number: 20140273249Abstract: High range activated clotting time (HR-ACT) tests detect blood clotting time in blood samples which have high levels of heparin. Reagents such as calcium chloride and kaolin within the test apparatus trigger clotting. The cartridge is treated with a strong surface treatment process, such as an atmospheric plasma treatment, to increase the hydrophilic property of the test chamber, there may be a significant reduction in the kaolin concentration required to activate the blood sample and initiate the coagulation process. The kaolin concentration may be further reduced if the buffer component used in the buffer saline contains phosphate. The reduction of the kaolin concentration allows more calcium to be released from the kaolin to participate in the clotting process. The combined effect of adding a surface treatment to the cartridge to increase the hydrophilic property of reaction chamber and adding phosphate into buffered saline allows for clot detection of blood samples containing 5˜6 U/mL heparin.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 12, 2013Publication date: September 18, 2014Applicant: MEDTRONIC, INC.Inventors: Charlene Yuan, Trevor C. Patent number: 8821973Abstract: Both ends of a circulation pipe of a film formation apparatus are connected to a piping of a BWR plant. A chemical including chromium ions and formic acid is injected into a film formation solution flowing in the circulation pipe heated to a temperature within a range from 60° C. to 100° C. Furthermore, a chemical including iron (II) ions and formic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and hydrazine are injected into the circulation pipe. Due to the injection of these chemicals, a film formation solution of pH 7.0 including iron (II) ions, chromium ions, formic acid, hydrogen peroxide, and hydrazine is generated in the circulation pipe. This film formation solution includes hydrazine of, for example, 1000 ppm. The film formation solution is supplied to the piping, thus, a Fe3—xCrxO4 film (here, 0<X?0.1) is formed on the inner surface of the piping. Patent number: 8802184Abstract: A method of modifying a medical device such as a stent with nano-constructs is disclosed. The method comprises applying a first fluid to the stent; immersing the stent being wet from the first fluid into a second fluid having a suspension of nano-constructs; and removing the stent from the second fluid and allowing the first and second fluid to be removed such that the nano-constructs are carried by the stent for in vivo application of the constructs to a target location of a mammalian subject. The nano-constructs can be attached to the surface of the stent, can be attached to a surface of the coating of the stent, can be embedded into the stent, or can be embedded into the coating.Type: GrantFiled: May 30, 2007Date of Patent: August 12, 2014Assignee: Abbott Cardiovascular Systems Inc.Inventors: Syed F. Patent number: 8795768Abstract: Methods and systems for cleaning, coating and sealing leaks in existing pipes, in a single operation. A piping system can be cleaned in one pass by dry particulates forced and pulled by air throughout the piping system by a generator and a vacuum. Pipes can be protected from water corrosion, erosion and electrolysis, extending the life of pipes such as copper, steel, lead, brass, cast iron piping and composite materials. Coatings can be applied to pipes having diameters up to approximately 6?. Leak sealants of at least approximately 4 mils thick can cover insides of pipes, and can include novel mixtures of fillers and epoxy materials, and viscosity levels. A positive pressure can be maintained within the pipes during applications. Piping systems can be returned to service within approximately 96 hours.Type: GrantFiled: November 14, 2012Date of Patent: August 5, 2014Assignee: Pipe Restoration Technologies, LLCInventors: Larry Gillanders, Steve Williams, John Laborde
