  • Patent number: 6968633
Abstract: A paint drying system for drying a painted body (4), such as a painted motor vehicle, includes a spraybooth (1) having an enclosure (2) through which air flows from an air inlet (6) to an air outlet (16, 18). The spraybooth (1) may also have columns of air jets (34) mounted in respective corners of the enclosure (2) to direct air obliquely at surfaces of the vehicle body (4). The system includes ionization members (33) for electrically charging this air supply. In a preferred embodiment the air is negatively charged by ionization members comprising one or elongate rods (33) mounted parallel with the columns of air jets (34). The spraybooth (2) may also have a control system (210) for controlling the paint drying system (4). The control system (210) has user-operable controls (234) to pre-select a predetermined parameter/combination of parameters and thus control the characteristics of a respective drying stage or cycle which parameters, e.g. temperature, vary with time.

  • Patent number: 6913823
Abstract: A process for the preparation of water repellent acrylic fiber materials which includes (a) a first step in which the material is subjected to plasma treatment in the presence of a reactive gas or a mixture thereof with a noble gas; and (b) a second step in which the material obtained in step (a) is subjected to waterproofing by means of (i) traditional resin finish or (ii) with plasma generated in the presence of fluorinated compounds. The materials made of acrylic fiber obtained by the process have a waterproofing degree higher than 25 cm of water column and have a rigid appearance or good draping and softness depending on whether they have been water-proofed with treatment (i) or (ii). These materials may used in the preparation of covers or sun shields.

  • Publication number: 20040253452
Abstract: According to the present invention, it is possible to save a predrying time and form a uniform film, because water having a high dielectric constant is heated selectively upon predrying of a waterborne coating with microwaves. Particularly when the surface to be coated is plastic, the above-described effect can be exhibited fully. In the method of forming a multilayer film by using a waterborne coating, use of microwaves makes it possible to prevent mixing of plural layers because they are adequately predried, to suppress the total drying time while maintaining good finished appearance and evenness of the coated surface and to attain saving of equipment and energy.
