Patent number: 7687133Abstract: A weather strip has a trim portion and a seal portion. The trim portion has a vehicle interior side wall, a vehicle exterior side wall, and a connecting portion. A metal insert is embedded in the trim portion. The insert has piece portions and a center bond portion which connects the piece portions to one another. The thickness of each of parts of the insert, which are other than both curved parts, is set to be thinner than the thickness of each of both the curved parts. Thus, the thickness of the insert, except for the curved parts, is small. Consequently, the entire insert, thus, the entire weather strip can be lightened. On the other hand, both the curved parts are relatively thick. Accordingly, the weather strip can assure predetermined strength and stiffness and can easily maintain an initial shape.Type: GrantFiled: July 20, 2007Date of Patent: March 30, 2010Assignee: Toyoda Gosei Co., Ltd.Inventors: Norimasa Iwasa, Masanori Aritake, Satoshi Toki

Patent number: 7604766Abstract: A core metal insert is provided having a series, or multiple series, of laterally extending score marks in a non-reduced thickness portion, or portions, of the insert. Such score marks are provided in at least one face surface of the insert. The score marks provide stress relief so that when the corresponding precursor sheet metal blank is lengthened to produce the insert, the resulting insert will have a lesser tendency to contract from its lengthened state. A method of providing such a core metal insert also is provided.Type: GrantFiled: November 21, 2005Date of Patent: October 20, 2009Assignee: Scovil Hanna CorporationInventor: Roy L. Bonds

Patent number: 7541083Abstract: A product including a first structure. A joint element is attached to the first structure. The joint element has a base and at least two legs extending from the base, the legs defining a slot having opposing sides and a bottom. A second structure is positioned in the slot. An adhesive is disposed in the slot joining the second structure to the joint element. A cavity is formed between the bottom of the slot and the second structure. The cavity being substantially free of adhesive.Type: GrantFiled: May 23, 2008Date of Patent: June 2, 2009Assignee: The Boeing CompanyInventors: Douglas L. Grose, Steven P. Wanthal, Joseph L. Patent number: 7534501Abstract: Precision-folded, high strength, fatigue-resistant structures and a sheet therefore are disclosed. To form the structures, methods for precision bending of a sheet of material along a bend line and a sheet of material formed with bending strap-defining structures, such as slits or grooves, are disclosed. Methods include steps of designing and then separately forming longitudinally extending slits or grooves through the sheet of material in axially spaced relation to produce precise bending of the sheet when bent along the bend line. The bending straps have a configuration and orientation which increases their strength and fatigue resistance, and most preferably slits or arcs are used which causes edges to be engaged and supported on faces of the sheet material on opposite sides of the slits or arcs. The edge-to-face contact produces bending along a virtual fulcrum position in superimposed relation to the bend line.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 2006Date of Patent: May 19, 2009Assignee: Industrial Origami, Inc.Inventor: Max W. Publication number: 20090087614Abstract: The invention relates to a covered panel for a motor vehicle having a rigid substrate, a skin, and a layer of material connecting the skin to the rigid substrate, in which the skin is constituted of one first and one second skin section including a visual characteristic at the line where the two respective edges of the first and second section of the skin are joined. The panel is characterized in that the edge of the first section of skin extends beyond the visual characteristic, under the second section of skin, and in that the skin is provided, in the area of that visual characteristic with at least one line of decorative seams or stitching connecting the first and second sections of skin together. The invention also relates to a process to manufacture the type of panel.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 2, 2008Publication date: April 2, 2009Inventor: Francois Nelias

Patent number: 7476433Abstract: The invention relates to a docking buffer for attaching to ramps, comprising an elastic damping element (3) that is situated between two U-shaped sections (1; 2) consisting of a hard, shock-proof material. The limbs (4; 5) and (6; 7) of said sections are adjacent to one another and can be displaced in relation to one another, the limbs (4; 5) of one U-shaped section (2) converging at an angle ? that deviates from 90° in relation to a base surface (9) and the limbs (6; 7) of the other U-shaped section (1) diverging at an angle ? that deviates from 90° in relation to a base plate (8). The opening widths between the ends of the limbs (4; 5) and (6; 7) and the sizes of the angles ?; ? are selected in such a way that the limbs (4; 5) embrace the limbs (6; 7). The advantage of the invention is that it provides a docking buffer with a simple construction that is thus cost-effective to produce, said buffer affording reliable protection even during an off-center collision.Type: GrantFiled: November 5, 2004Date of Patent: January 13, 2009Assignee: Deutsche Post AGInventors: Rainer Ott, Hans Schmatz
