Patent number: 10662070Abstract: Embodiments of the invention generally provide compositions of crystalline zeolite materials with tailored crystal habits and the methods for forming such crystalline zeolite materials. The methods for forming the crystalline zeolite materials include binding one or more zeolite growth modifiers (ZGMs) to the surface of a zeolite crystal, which results in the modification of crystal growth rates along different crystallographic directions, leading to the formation of zeolites having a tailored crystal habit. The improved properties enabled by the tailored crystal habit include a minimized crystal thickness, a shortened internal diffusion pathlength, and a greater step density as compared to a zeolite having the native crystal habit prepared by traditional processes. The tailored crystal habit provides the crystalline zeolite materials with an aspect ratio of about 4 or greater and crystal surfaces having a step density of about 25 steps/?m2 or greater.Type: GrantFiled: November 8, 2018Date of Patent: May 26, 2020Assignee: UNIVERSITY OF HOUSTON SYSTEMInventors: Jeffrey D. Patent number: 9554900Abstract: Thin, biocompatible, high-strength, composite materials are disclosed that are suitable for use in a valve for regulating blood flow direction. In one aspect, the composite material maintains flexibility in high-cycle flexural applications, making it particularly applicable to high-flex implants such as a prosthetic heart valve leaflet. The composite material includes a porous polymer membrane and an elastomer, wherein the elastomer fills substantially all of the pores of the porous polymer membrane.Type: GrantFiled: March 13, 2013Date of Patent: January 31, 2017Assignee: W. Patent number: 9517963Abstract: Forming holes in a material includes focusing a pulsed laser beam into a laser beam focal line oriented along the beam propagation direction and directed into the material, the laser beam focal line generating an induced absorption within the material, the induced absorption producing a defect line along the laser beam focal line within the material, and translating the material and the laser beam relative to each other, thereby forming a plurality of defect lines in the material, and etching the material in an acid solution to produce holes greater than 1 micron in diameter by enlarging the defect lines in the material. A glass article includes a stack of glass substrates with formed holes of 1-100 micron diameter extending through the stack.Type: GrantFiled: November 7, 2014Date of Patent: December 13, 2016Assignee: Corning IncorporatedInventors: Sasha Marjanovic, Garrett Andrew Piech, Shyamala Shanmugam, Carlos Alberto Pons Siepermann, Sergio Tsuda, Zsigmond Varga, Robert Stephen Wagner

Patent number: 9475568Abstract: A composite structure (3) formed of a composite member which extends in one direction, includes holes (5), and is made of fiber reinforced plastics. A tensile load and/or a compressive load are applied to the composite structure (3) in the one direction. Tensile stiffness and/or compression stiffness of peripheral areas (3a) of the holes (5) is lower than tensile stiffness and/or compression stiffness of the other area (3b), which surrounds the peripheral areas (3a), in the one direction, and the width of the peripheral area (3a) in a direction orthogonal to the one direction is set to 1.1 times or less of the diameter of the hole (5) in the direction orthogonal to the one direction.Type: GrantFiled: February 14, 2013Date of Patent: October 25, 2016Assignee: Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Masahiro Kashiwagi, Yoshinori Nonaka, Toshio Abe

Patent number: 9464369Abstract: The present invention is directed to articles comprising nanofibers. Preferred articles include diapers, training pants, adult incontinence pads, catamenials products such as feminine care pads and pantiliners, tampons, personal cleansing articles, personal care articles, and personal care wipes including baby wipes, facial wipes, body wipes, and feminine wipes. The nanofiber webs can be used as a barrier, wipe, absorbent material, and other uses. The nanofibers, having a diameter of less than 1 micron, must comprise a significant number of the fibers in at least one nanofiber layer of the nonwoven web. The nonwoven web may have a hydrohead to basis weight ratio of greater than about 10 mbar/gsm. The nanofibers may be produced from a melt film fibrillation process.Type: GrantFiled: April 19, 2005Date of Patent: October 11, 2016Assignee: The Procter & Gamble CompanyInventors: Olaf Erik Alexander Isele, Rajeev Chhabra, Han Xu, Srinivas Krishnaswany Mirle, Eric Bryan Bond
