  • Patent number: 9573320
Abstract: A method, for repairing a discrepant weld in a workpiece arrangement including at least two workpieces, comprising positioning a mechanical intermediary adjacent the discrepant weld and inserting the intermediary through the discrepant weld and into at least a distal workpiece of the two workpieces, wherein upon insertion, a proximate surface of the intermediary is exposed at a proximate side of the workpiece arrangement. The method further includes delivering weld energy to the intermediary. The intermediary is configured, and the weld energy provided, so that energy passes through the intermediary in a pre-determined manner. Energy passing through the intermediary in the pre-determined manner generates heat in material of the workpieces causing the material to melt at an arrangement interface. The method further comprises allowing or causing the material melted to cool, wherein the melted material, when cooled, forms and/or strengthens a robust joint connecting the workpieces.

  • Patent number: 9408761
Abstract: An article having as a component a section of nonwoven web formed predominately of polymeric fibers is disclosed. The section of nonwoven web may have a pattern of consolidating bonds impressed on the surface. The bonds may have at least one bond shape; and the bond shape may have a perimeter with a greatest measurable length and greatest measurable width. The perimeter may have a convex portion and an aspect ratio of length/width of at least 2.5. Other features may be imparted relating to the density and orientations of the bonds relative machine and cross directions of the web. The bond shape reflects the shape of a corresponding bonding protrusion on a bonding roller. It is believed that the shape, density and/or orientation of the bonding protrusions affect air flow through the bonding nip in a way that may be utilized to enhance loft of the resulting bonded nonwoven web.

  • Patent number: 9199868
Abstract: Isopipes (13) for making a glass or a glass-ceramic using a fusion process are provided. The isopipes are made from an alumina material which has a higher static fatigue than existing alumina materials intended for use as isopipes. In particular, the alumina materials have times-to-failure (static fatigues) of greater than one hour at 1200° C. at an applied stress of 10,000 psi. These high levels of static fatigue allow alumina isopipes to replace zircon isopipes in the manufacture of high performance glass sheets by the fusion process, including glass sheets which are incompatible with zircon isopipes but compatible with alumina isopipes, e.g., chip and scratch resistant glass sheets which have high alkali contents.
