Abstract: Articles comprising an expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membrane having serpentine fibrils and having a discontinuous coating of a fluoropolymer thereon are provided. The fluoropolymer may be located at least partially in the pores of the expanded fluoropolymer membrane. In exemplary embodiments, the fluoropolymer is fluorinated ethylene propylene. The application of a tensile force at least partially straightens the serpentine fibrils, thereby elongating the article. The expanded polytetrafluoroethylene membrane may include a microstructure of substantially only fibrils. The articles can be elongated to a predetermined point at which further elongation is inhibited by a dramatic increase in stiffness. In one embodiment, the articles are used to form a covered stent device that requires little force to distend in the radial direction to a first diameter but is highly resistant to further distension to a second diameter (stop point).

Abstract: The present invention generally relates to a system and method for converting a client order into a custom canvassed bulletin board, where the client accesses a board maker's web site and uploads a digital image over the internet to a server. The client verifies the uploaded image, selects an image print size, and submits personal information to the server. The uploaded image is retrieved by the board maker and resized. The board maker prints the image onto a canvas, fixes the printed canvas onto a bulletin board, and delivers the custom board to the client. The bulletin board can be framed, hung on a surface, used with push pins to attach messages to the canvassed surface, or be used as decorative art. Cork's self-healing properties causes holes through the printed canvas and tack receptive cork layers to close up and restore the printed image to its near original quality.

Abstract: Articles enabled by an injection molding process that molds parts on a carrier web located between mold halves and uses ultrasonic energy to assist flow of polymer melt into the mold cavity. One such article is a carrier web having a high density of molded parts, i.e., bearing an array of molded articles adhered to the web in rows and columns, the articles being spaced closer (center-to-center or edge-to-edge) than the diagonal spacing between articles in the next adjacent row and next adjacent column. Another such article is a microneedle array on a land no more than 250 ?m thick on which at least 60% of the microneedles across the array are filled (i.e., completely formed).

Abstract: A soft feel decorative, textured laminate used for various vertical surfaces of the interior of commercial aircraft. Fire resistant silicone materials are used as a cap layer on various substrates including FR resin impregnated woven glass and naturally high flammability resistance polymer film. The FR-silicone cap layer can be used on various substrates, such as polymeric film, polymeric sheet, foam fabric materials, woven/non-woven and knitted glass. The FR-silicone cap layer can be colored or combined with prints. A clear silicone layer can be laminated on top of a printed silicone layer to protect the print and provide better abrasion resistance. The silicone laminate passes FAA and OEM interior aircraft flammability requirements including heat release, smoke and vertical burn.

Abstract: Cushioning elements include a breathable material configured to allow gases to pass through at least a portion thereof, and a plurality of discrete segments of thermoplastic elastomeric gel (“gel”) heat-fused or otherwise attached to the breathable material. The gel comprises an elastomeric polymer and a plasticizer, with a plasticizer-to-polymer ratio of from about 0.3 to about 50. The plurality of discrete segments defines at least one breathable gap between adjacent discrete segments. Methods of forming cushioning elements include forming a plurality of discrete segments of gel, securing each segment to a breathable material, and providing a gas path through the breathable material and between adjacent segments. Another method includes providing molten gel within a mold, providing at least a second portion of the gel within a permeable material, and solidifying the gel to form discrete segments of gel.
