Abstract: A method of injection molding produces a microcellular material. In this method, a polymer is melted and blended with a supercritical fluid to produce a single-phase polymer-gas solution. This solution is injected through a nozzle and into a mold. When injected through the nozzle, gas in the solution (from the supercritical fluid) emerges from the polymer, which then solidifies. In emerging from the solution, the gas causes the nucleation of cells that result in a microcellular structure. A foam material comprises a polymer having a microcellular structure formed by the nucleation of micro-cells. The micro-cells are formed by the dispersing of a supercritical fluid in a liquid solution of the polymer when the polymer is subjected to a pressure drop. A feminine hygiene device is fabricated from a foamed polymer.

Abstract: First, wood or bamboo is crushed to obtain wood powder with an average grain size of 5 ?m to 100 ?m. Next, the wood powder is put in a first mold, and a first compression molding step is carried out under the conditions that, for example, a temperature is 160° C. and a pressure is 30 MPa. Thus, a temporary molded body is obtained. Subsequently, the temporary molded body is immersed in a flame retardant and a surface of the temporary molded body is impregnated with the flame retardant. Thereafter, the temporary molded body is put in a second mold, and a second compression molding step is carried out under the conditions that, for example, a temperature is 200° C. and a pressure is 100 MPa. At this time, ingredients such as lignin and a hemicellulose are separated from the wood powder, and function as an adhesive. For this reason, pieces of crushed material are firmly bonded with each other so as to be integrated into a single body. Thus, a compression-molded product with a predetermined shape is obtained.

Abstract: An electrode film is provided which comprises carbon particles and inorganic particles having a particle diameter within the range of from 1 nm to 100 nm, wherein the carbon particles are bound together by the inorganic particles. In addition, an electrode is provided which has a current collector and an electrode film disposed on the current collector, wherein the electrode film is the aforesaid electrode film. This electrode can be produced by a method which has applying a dispersion liquid containing carbon particles and inorganic particles having a particle diameter within the range of from 1 nm to 100 nm dispersed in a liquid medium, to a current collector to form a dispersion liquid film, and removing the liquid medium from the dispersion liquid film to form an electrode film composed of the carbon particles and the inorganic particles. Furthermore, an electric double layer capacitor in which the aforesaid electrode has been incorporated is provided.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method of manufacturing a porous membrane and a porous membrane manufactured thereby. A polymer spinning dope in a spinning dope supply container (I) is electrically spun onto a solution (B), which is contained in a collector container (6) with a high voltage applied thereto, and whose surface is disposed within a jet stream (4) of an electrospun polymer spinning dope, through spinning nozzles (2) with a high voltage applied thereto, thereby forming a porous membrane on the surface of the solution (B). The prepared porous membrane has pores having an average diameter of 0.02 to 10 ?m uniformly formed thereon. It is possible to prepare a porous membrane with pores of a given size uniformly formed thereon by a more simple procedure.

Abstract: The sliding material is obtainable by extrusion of a raw material containing an olefin-based polymer and a silicone compound as the essential components. A part of the olefin-based polymer forms a crosslinked material in the sliding material. The crosslinked material forms domains to disperse in the sliding material so as to prevent uneven distribution of the silicone compound in the extrusion direction. The residual fraction of hot xylene reflux of the sliding material is in a range from 33 to 75% by weight based on the total weight of the sliding material, and the content of the silicone compound based on the total weight of the sliding material is in a range from 5 to 35% by weight.

Abstract: First, a mixture of a polytetrafluoroethylene fine powder and a liquid lubricant into a sheet-form body extending in a first direction. Next, the liquid lubricant is removed from the sheet-form body. Then, the sheet-form body is stretched by a factor of 40 to 250 in the longitudinal direction at a temperature equal to or higher than a melting point of polytetrafluoroethylene, and the stretched sheet-form body is further stretched by a factor of 3 to 40 in the width direction. Thus, a highly air-permeable porous polytetrafluoroethylene membrane is obtained.
