Publication number: 20120202020Abstract: The present invention includes an article and method for transferring an image from one substrate to another. The method includes providing or obtaining an image transfer sheet that is comprised of a substrate layer, a release layer and an image-imparting layer that may comprise a low density polyethylene or other polymeric component having a melting temperature within a range of about 90 degrees C. to about 700 degrees C. An image is imparted to the low density polyethylene area with an image-imparting medium. A second image receiving substrate can be provided. The second image receiving substrate is contacted to the first image transfer sheet at the polymer, image-imparting layer. Heat is applied to the image transfer sheet so that the low density polyethylene encapsulates the image-imparting medium and transfers the encapsulates to the image receiving substrate, thereby forming a mirror image on the image receiving substrate.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 16, 2012Publication date: August 9, 2012Inventors: Jodi A. The flexible base material may include a shrinkable polymer (e.g. PVC/PET or “shrink wrap”), which may shrink up to 500%. The flexible base material may include a stretchable polymer (e.g. Mylar), which may be stretched by at least 1000%. These stretchable and shrinkable properties may be exhibited without substantial functional degradation of either the flexible base material and/or the flexible material layer.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 10, 2011Publication date: October 13, 2011Inventors: Richard Otto Claus, Jennifer Hoyt Lalli, Victor Vincent Baranauskas, III, Lacy Maxwell Bush, Jiyun Imholt, Ben Lepene

Patent number: 8021754Abstract: Decorative system composites and methods for forming the same are described. The composites employ new and improved support film systems that have enhanced tensile strength under typical thermoforming conditions, including elevated temperatures. An optional release film can be used in conjunction with the support film. The support film is particularly suitable for use with decorative films used to impart a surface effect, such as paint or color-containing film systems, to a thermoformed plastic component. The support film systems also possess enhanced bag/sag/drape control characteristics.Type: GrantFiled: July 7, 2008Date of Patent: September 20, 2011Assignee: Laminate Products, Inc.Inventors: Robert LaFave, Robert Bowling
