  • Patent number: 8158232
Abstract: A chair pad has foldable panels for movement and shipment. A hard wood chair pad forms from multiple elongated rigid planks, processed like hardwood flooring. The chair pad provides a substantially rigid surface that folds easily for transport and shipping. The rigid planks utilized in the chair pad, similar to hardwood flooring planks, have sufficient thickness such that when they are bonded in an adjacent side by side abutting manner along the longer lengthwise edges similar to some hardwood flooring and further bonded to a backing in an adjacent side by side manner, the planks form a substantially rigid surface. The planks connect adjacently lengthwise along their long side edges.

Abstract: A system and method for making and using composite material components is disclosed. Composite material components are preferably constructed in patterns where every part needed for a given filler is included in a single series pattern. Using these series patterns, the material can be cut, folded and the parts created in a manner such that the individual parts forming a single filler are releasably attached to one another, thus resulting in effective and efficient organization of these parts. The filler panels can then be arranged into a folding stack of offset edges. Two shapes are preferably used with subtle differences between each at the fold area. Different patterns can be used to have the first two panels in the series positioned at 0 degrees, followed by two panels positioned at 45 degrees, and then alternating the angle positions throughout the pattern. The pattern preferably incorporates triangular portions or tabs between each set of panels in the series to help in establishing a fold line.

Abstract: A process for splicing a first portion of absorbent material to a second portion of absorbent material to form a longer, continuous length of absorbent material suitable for uninterrupted sequential infeed to a processing machine. The process includes the steps of placing a trailing end of the first portion adjacent a leading end of the second portion and aligning the ends. A piece of splicing material is attached to the ends. The piece of splicing material has a fluid permeability at least about as great as a fluid permeability of the first portion of absorbent material and at least about as great as a fluid permeability of the second portion of absorbent material.

Abstract: Provided is a composite joint comprising a pair of composite panels each defining a composite panel thickness and having an inner face sheet and an outer face sheet sandwiching a core panel therebetween. The core panel defines a constant thickness portion and a ramp portion along which the core panel tapers to a reduced thickness portion. The outer face sheet is thickened in the area of the reduced thickness portion. The core panel includes a plurality of cells extending between the inner and outer face sheets. The cells within the reduced thickness portions are filled with a filler material. The cells within the ramp portions and constant thickness portions are filled with aerogel. A primary splice plate extends across the reduced thickness portions. Mechanical fasteners extend through the outer face sheet and into the primary and secondary splice plates. A themal barrier compound covers the primary splice plate.

  • Patent number: 7255769
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for splicing successive rolls of webmaterial to one endless web, in such way that during subsequent coating of the web, coating defects near the splices are reduced, preferably prevented. To that end at least part of the trailing edge of the splicing tape used to splice the succeeding webs, is left free of adhesive. Because of this, air, which during said coating process gets entrapped behind the splice, between the coating layer and the web, can dissipate between the adhesive-free tape edge and the underlying web surface, thus reducing or preventing the formation of air bubbles and subsequent coating defects. The possible reoccurrence of discontinuity coating defects at very high coating speeds can be reduced or prevented by subjecting the surface of the web to be coated to an electrostatic charge before applying the coating.

Abstract: Apparatus and methods for preventing splinters and minimizing the number of injuries attributable to falling onto pressure-treated wooden members, such as landscape ties or timbers used in play areas and landscape projects, through the use of a resilient cover. A cover and various embodiments include a moldable or extrudable waterproof material in the form of a channel having a top wall and two opposing side walls. The combination of channel thickness and composition provides an impact resistance suitable to prevent injuries when one falls upon it. The inner dimensions of the channel are such that the channel fits tightly over the top and sides of a construction beam or timber.

Abstract: A commercial floor mat has a plurality of aluminum rails arranged in closely spaced side-by-side relationship and connected together by hinged connectors beneath the rails. Each rail has a pair of downwardly facing grooves on its underside extending along respective edges of the rail. Each connector has a flexible central web and a pair of spaced upstanding tabs disposed in the downwardly facing grooves of adjacent rails. The tabs have flexible barb-shaped ribs extending along their opposed faces to anchor the tabs in the grooves with a friction fit. The flexible central webs of the connectors facilitate hinged movement of connected rails to permit the mat to be rolled onto itself into a compact configuration.

Abstract: A hybrid liner (40) and system for using a hybrid liner includes a first portion (42) being made of one material and a second portion (44) being made of a separate material. The two materials have a different propensity for sticking to the unvulcanized rubber component (20) as well as a different cost. The invention concerns using the less sticky, more expensive liner in the areas of the liner roll where sticking is more likely to occur and using the less expensive material where liner to rubber adhesion is less of a problem.
