  • Patent number: 6811851
Abstract: A ridgy resin film made of a resin is formed. On a flat substrate, a first concave and a second concave are formed such as to be spaced a given distance apart from each other. Then, a resin liquid is supplied onto a land being part of the substrate exposed between the first and second concaves. Due to its surface tension, the resin liquid supplied onto the land bulges, and a ridgy resin film even in width is formed by curing the resin liquid in this state. Along the edges of the openings of the first concave and the second concave, ridges are formed. Since the resin liquid is supplied onto the land between the ridges, it does not drip nor overflow.

  • Patent number: 6599385
Abstract: A manufacturing method of a multi-layer optical information record carrier, which has a plurality of layers of reflecting surfaces with pits for recording information. According to the method, a reflective layer is first coated on a stamper with a pit pattern. Abstract: An improved method and apparatus for making a dual-layer DVD disc that does not require a stamping step (typically, as part of the 2P prior art manufacturing process) during its manufacture. As proposed by Mueller, a polycarbonate substrate is molded and coated with a semireflective data layer in the usual way. A PMMA substrate is molded and coated with a fully reflective data layer. Adhesive is placed on the semireflective data layer, and the fully reflective data layer is transferred from its PMMA substrate to the polycarbonate substrate. The polycarbonate substrate thus ends up with two data layers in conformance with the DVD specifications, and the PMMA substrate can even be recycled for another use. However, instead of using a PMMA substrate that is larger than the polycarbonate substrate as proposed by Mueller, in the invention they have equal diameters. This allows conventional molding equipment to be used with no major changes.

The data layer is characterized as recording data and eliminating access to data in response to at least one of a predetermined use or time factor. In addition, included is a method for fabricating a perishable media information storage mechanism including the steps of providing a substrate, forming a data layer on a surface of the substrate, forming a reflective layer on an uppermost surface of the data layer, and forming a protective coating on an uppermost surface of the reflective layer.

  • Patent number: 6183830
Abstract: A digital video disk substrate of a polycarbonate having a viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) of 10,000 to 17,000 and a weight average molecular weight (Mw)/number average molecular weight (Mn) of not smaller than 2.3, and a digital video disk substrate of a polycarbonate having a viscosity average molecular weight (Mv) of 1,000 to 17,000 obtained by the transesterification of a divalent phenol such as 2,2-bis(4-hydroxyphenyl) propane with a carbonic acid diester such as diphenyl carbonate. The digital video disk substrate is little cracked at the time of molding, and exhibits small birefringence and excellent transcriptional property.
