  • Patent number: 8273447
Abstract: A multilayer oriented film comprising at least one layer (a) comprising one or more polyesters and/or copolyesters characterized by a % of crystallinity higher than 15, an adjacent layer (b) comprising one or more polyolefin-based adhesive resins, and a layer (c) comprising one or more co-polyesters characterized by a % of crystallinity lower than 15, is positioned between said two layers (a) and (b) in such a way that one of the two principal surfaces of layer (c) is directly adhered to layer (a) and the other is directly adhered to layer (b). The presence of a co-polyester layer (c) of relatively low % crystallinity positioned between (co)polyester layer (a) and adhesive layer (b) remarkably increases the bond between the two layers (a) and (b) and prevents delamination problems in the oriented structure.

  • Patent number: 7541087
Abstract: A multilayer film is produced by forming a first and a second layers consecutively on at least one surface of a biaxially stretched polyester base. The first layer contains particles and a binder both composed mainly of either tin oxide, indium oxide, zirconium oxide, or titanium oxide. When the refractive indexes of the base, the first layer, and the second layer are represented by ?1, ?2, and ?3 respectively, the first layer and the second layer are adjusted for the refractive index such that the differences |?1??2| and |?1??3| are both not greater than 0.03. Adhesive strength is therefore kept high between the base and the layers to eliminate light interference, and the multilayer film offers an excellent optical property with few color rainbow effect.

The major component of the layer A is polyethylene terephthalate and the stress at 100% elongation in the film's longitudinal direction and width direction at 150° C. and 200° C. meets the following equations: 2?(F100MD+F100TD)?100 and 1?F100TD?60. The film has a high dimensional stability at high temperatures to permit uniform metal deposition, suffers little change in appearance during thermoforming, and serves for easy production of formed parts that closely meet the shape of the die when subjected to low-stress forming.
