  • Patent number: 8993153
Abstract: The present disclosure relates to ramped battery contacts for a battery pack that support multiple engagement methods to devices, such as terminals, recharging stations, and the like. The battery pack can make a connection with a terminal one way and with a recharging station with another. Advantageously, the multiple engagement methods allow for different connectors for the different applications associated with the terminal and the recharging station. In an exemplary embodiment, the ramped battery contacts enable a terminal to connect to a battery pack through pogo-pin contacts to prevent disconnections in a rugged environment. The same ramped battery contacts can connect to a recharging station with leaf spring contacts through a swiping action that makes insertion and removal of the battery pack in the recharger quicker and easier.

Abstract: A wound electrode body is fabricated by laminating and winding positive and negative electrode sheets together with a separator therebetween for insulation. On both positive and negative electrode side ends of the wound electrode body, laminates of current-collecting foil layered portions of the electrode sheets are bent or folded f toward the outer peripheral side to be separated into two. The separated laminates and forked connector leaves are overlapped and clamped between an ultrasonic chip and an anvil. Then, they are welded. The forked connector leaves are arranged such that no opposing forked connector leaf is present in the direction of a line normal to the forked connector leaf, so that the anvil does not have to be cantilevered. This allows welding by using the ultrasonic chip and the anvil without interfering with the collector rs. As a result, the quality of welding is improved.

Abstract: A battery includes current collectors for electrically connecting a power generating element contained inside of a battery case to external terminals, respectively. A caulking head of a rivet for fixing the negative current collector to a cover is contained in a engagement recess which is a space inside of a engagement receiving portion in the cover. The positive current collector is caulked to the cover via a shaft of the positive external terminal. A caulking head at a tip end of the shaft is contained in the engagement recess which is a space defined inside of the engagement receiving portion. The caulking heads do not project from a lower surface of the cover, and therefore, a clearance space defined between the power generating element and the cover is set to the minimum.
